"So You Think You Can Mod?"--A Hype Reality Show!

My problem with warning him is look how many hypsters say something like "This is so gay", so do we start warning all who say that? You have to be fair to this poster and the hypsters. You can't pick and choose, and since these are subtle remarks (I am assuming along this line), I don't feel he can be warned.

Tell him to ease up on the gay remarks, but since he hasnt really singled out "B" what has he really done wrong?

Good point Crow. Technically he hasn't done anything "really" wrong. So do you have grounds for action or not? That, dear Watson, is the dayum question.

SCENARIO #1:

For 400 Points:

"HYPESTER A has made it known that he despises gay people. He knows that HYPESTER B is gay because they've mentioned it publicly. HYPESTER A seems to appear in nearly every thread HYPESTER B participates in. He makes subtle knocks and insinuations about gay people, but he is civil about it and never uses gay jokes. He also never attacks HYPESTER B directly publicly or privately.

Question: The gay poster believes he's being singled out and harrassed and demands that you discipline HYPESTER A based on "assumptions." What do you do?

KEY POINT: Note that Hypester A is not "direct" with his trolling, nor has he attacked anyone. Technically he has not broken the rules. This is a gray area.
advise Hypester A that even though he isn't breaking any of the rules, some people might find the knocks and insinuations possibly offensive, and kindly ask him to stop before something worse happens and it becomes an issue.

Wouldn't he change it back? Or am I missing the point.

Nothing, if you did any discipline it would be based on one person's assumptions. If the person didn't directly attack Hypester B OR post any gay bashing then you would be only acting on what one person says without any real justification or proof. But you could send a discreet PM to Hypester A mentioning to tone down on the small gay jokes as they are innapropriate. You could follow from there on, and see if it continues........as soon as one slip by Hypester A you give him a warning....if he does anything more after that...probationary ban....

actually the more i think about it,

without actually seeing what you are saying is happening, you can not judge how bad the situation is, people have a right to there beliefs, we can not change that, if it isn't an personal attack, you can't do anything, as they are just comments nothing more, so really, you do nothing.

As long as he states what he believes. Not Ultimatums and such. For instinance, "Gays will all go and burn in hell!"

Thats wrong and an attack, IMO. And I am not a fan of homosexuality, but I tolorate and hold no grudges toward them.

Like i said, we cannot judge in this contest without seeing what the guy actually said.

the hype is full of opinion, unless he beliefs are a formal attack on the hyper in question nothing can be done.

Thanks, I kind of like the "SIG OF SHAME" punishment *kicking self for not thinking of one like that*

I could pm a mod and say you called me many names and harassed me. Without proof, they shouldn't be allowd to punish you. You need evidence otherwise it isn't fair. One mans word against another. Thats not right.

exactly, did you read my original approach.

:D

Yeah if he said nothing wrong, you can't do much. It is not like we can tell him not to post in threads the other guy posts, and the assumptions may be wrong.

This is assuming Hypster A hasn't crossed any lines in his wording, mind you. I agree, I'd have to see some wording.

Mention to Hypster A that Hypster B feels singled out, So far H-A has not been overly offensive or making time to attack B-B through PM's etc. Just let H-A know how H-B feels. Then keep an eye on it.

The clues given should be sufficient. Remember, Hypester B's complaint is not based on just one incident; it's about a series of subtle comments that HE feels are offensive. However, according to the FAQs he is not being attacked directly.

Then Hypester A would know Hypester B ratted him out and probably go for attacking him again later when it blows over or something. Never say the "victims" name to the "attacker" unless both are at fault.

All you people stating that the person did nothing wrong are wrong. The person made another person clearly uncomfortable. I'd weigh what Hypester A has contributed to the Hype...being mostly positive or negative. If he has contributed mostly nothing but negativeness to the Hype then I would definitely take SOME form of action, be it warning or something more drastic depending on the severity.

THEN I'd edit his sig for public mockery.

edit...I'd also research to see if Hypester B is a compulsive liar.
