Batman Begins Something I never understood.

You do know that if a normal bat hit a normal window it would break, right? The bat, I mean, not the window.

Oh yes, and a man in a bat-suit in real life can't move very well to fight crime and Batman would be captured in no time in the real world. And microwaves evaporate water in water supplies the same as in human bodies.

That's presicely the point, for the sake of realism sometimes they're sacrificing the magic of the story and the characters.

I think the way it is handled in the film is great. The way the music builds up underneath is amazing, and as Lobster Charlie pointed out, it leads to the fantastic shot of him in the cave with the bats. I think this is much more moving and exciting than a bat smashing through a window

They could have had both.

The point of the bat through the window is that Bruce gets scared and that reminds him the way he felt in the cave as a child and he makes the connection. "It scared me as when i was a kid. Bingo! I'll be a bat" Then he goes to the cave and overcome his fear.

The way it's handled in the movie is quite flat. The bat doesn't scare Bruce and he goes to the cave merely because of curioosity, to check where the bats are coming from. Which leads us to the awful "Why bats sir" scene. We had everything verbally explained.

(which couldn't happen - is this bat supposed to be made from steel?).

Read the previous post.

of course, you are right, this is just typical Frank Miller bs.

Yeah, like Bruce as a kid falling into the cave.

Or the way he can call thousands of bats with a transmitter.

Only bad ideas you know.

But perhaps he meant the original bat-flies-in-through-open-window scene?

In the original scene, Bruce got scared. Which was lost in the BB scene.

Woah, I as wrong, no-one agrees anymore. I don't think we need to worry about it, honestly, yeah I would have liked the Bat crashing through the window, but in Y1 it's done more as an anthesis to DKR where Bruce looks through the window wondering if he should return as Batman. I see Y1 and DKR as companion pieces.

where does he get scared?

Ah, the scene of the bat without the previous background of Bruce's fear of bats due to his fall into the cave as a child.

Whenever I worte Batman stories I always have it as the bat crashing through the window, then he runs into the night and falls down into the cave. A mixture of the two. But the bat scene is so inconic now-a-days.

The cave scene worked well though IMO.

It was just a joke. I'd have found it humorous if Bruce walked in the room, heard a thump on the window, and found a crippled bat laying in the dirt outside.

^ lol, that would have been classic. Like 'What? Is this a sign? Screw this, i'm gonna turn to mass murder to make me feel better...'

bruce visits his parents' graves every twelve minutes in the comics and the animated series. its dull and overdone. why do you need to see it again?
Because it hasn't been done in a live-action Batman movie yet and has potential to be far more dramatic than anything a 30-minute cartoon can achieve.

I dunno, I think B:TAS had nailed it. But I agree, i'd love to see that in a movie, but not in costume, as Bruce Wayne.
