I will be complete honest... Joe is name I have heard tossed around my whole life but I couldn't name a song he did or played on to save my life.

Thanks for the list.

Of course any time! Hope you enjoy them. One I forgot to mention which is absolutely critical is If I Could Fly, the song Coldplay ripped off for which he had to take them to court to sort out. That isa beautiful song dedicated to his wife

Enjoy if you haven't seen yet.

Ooooohhhhhh, I have seen it. Highly recommend it to anyone else who frequents this thread and has not.

By the way, I have asked my life for a new turntable for Christmas and my in-laws for a mint first pressing of Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs that I found on Discogs. :D

Quite nice. Should make for a rockin' Christmas morning.

I sometimes actually miss the popping and hissing of vinyl.

Since it is Black History Month, I thought we should take a moment to remember that the foundations upon which all of these "Guitar Gods" built was the playing of African American Bluesman (and some jazz players).

In particular, the first wave of British lead guitarists in the 1960s and early 70s all idolized American Blues musiciana and taught themselves to play guitar by listening to blue records.

Some fundamental influences:
Robert Johnson

B.B. King

Freddie King

Otis Rush

Albert King

Buddy Guy

In regards to Stevie Ray Vaughan, the one thing that really impressed me was the way he used his pick hand to play the knobs and switch like a mixing board. If you watch his pick hand closely, he is constantly adjusting the knobs to make a different tone or increase/decrease the volume. He does it so fast, you don't really even notice it. Some times, it looks like he is just strumming but he is moving the toggle switch up and down while he is strumming. It's amazing to see someone doing SO much at the same time. SRV is one of my favorites.

I like the studio/session guitarists the most: Al Caiola, Steve Cropper, Hank Garland, Chet Atkins, Tommy Tedesco, Jerry Reed, Billy Strange, James Burton, Grady Martin, Wah Wah Watson, Joe Messina, and Bob Bain and probably dozens of others I forget to mention. I also like Duane Eddy, Dick Dale, and the Ventures. I enjoy country "pickers" a lot. There's a ton of great ones in Nashville that nobody's ever heard of. :)
