You're not getting a second one. I'm glad you liked it but you are going to have to settle for one movie in this wannabe franchise.

I saw plenty of advertisment.

OK I know i most likley am not getting one but jesus can a man Hope! Myabe i just need to watch TV more to see the TV spots or something. I didnt see any stupid Web advertising either though, banners or anything. I just really wish Speed would have done well. We finally get a completely (almost) faithful adaption done very stylistically and it bombs what gives?

When the WB exec openly admits that the Memorial Day weekend is "do or die" for SR, you know the movie is in very deep hole. Sorry SR fans, but SR2 is not gonna happen.

Yeah, it's gonna turn around this weekend after two weeks and with Indy opening, Speed Racer is finally gonna start performing at the box office. Keep dreamin'

I really think this film is going to become something along the line of Office Space or even The Big Lebowski. Both those movies did poorly during their theater run. Once people can rent the DVD or borrow it from someone, they'll see how enjoyably fun this film is.

This baby will live on.:csad::up:

It's still confusing how this is making zero money. Take the awesome story and funny dialogue aside, take away the coolness of Racer X and Trixie, you still have pretty shiny lights and a dressed up monkey. I honestly thought this would make money for those two reasons alone.

So confused.

This movie is far, far from a movie like Office Space or the Big Lebowski, those were small movies, there was no expectation for them to preform. Speed Racer was a major summer release, DVD sales can't save the movie at this point. It's just a movie no one was interested in and unfavorable reviews didn't help either. I know it's hard to admit a movie you like has failed, but it has failed, miserably.

I'm waiting patiently - I'm done arguing the point - it dropped down to fourth
ahead of 13 others that have gotten better initial reviews.

But,.. I expect it is here to stay and STILL think it will have a sequel.

(Heck,.. if the Hulk can have one,....)

That is not true at all. Hulk does not have a sequel. It had a lackluster performance at the box office, and after that performance, Universal nor Marvel wanted a sequel to it. The Incredible Hulk is a reboot of the franchise, and is completely unrelated. There are two reasons why this movie is being made. The first reason is to bring in more fans and more glory to the Hulk. His big screen debut was not well received, and did not get the big numbers at the box office. Marvel is trying to undo that mistake. The second reason is to farther connect the Marvel movies to set up a future Avengers movie.

Completely different scenario.

Exactly. Hulk's scenario is totally different than SR; they are apples and oranges.

Soooooooooo ,

If someone decided to do the same thing with Speed Racer,.... With a different episode from the series, (The current movie kinda follows the two part story of the Mach Five), maybe the Monster Car or Death derby Episodes instead,... As a reboot of that run of movies,... it would be the same thing and not a sequel?

(I thought incredible starts with Banner already the Hulk hiding in South America,.... where the other movie ended?)

If they changed the visual style, had new directors, new writers, new cast, and was completely unrelated to Speed Racer other than being an adaptation of the cartoon, then yes, it would be a reboot. The way you are talking (a movie who's script is inspired by a few of the other Speed Racer episodes), then no, it would not be a reboot. If it were like that, then all sequels that exist can be considered reboots.

Nope, the new one starts off as Banner already the Hulk. There won't be a flat out origin story like Hulk did. Instead, it will start already in the mix, and will have some glimpses of an origin (think Batman).

This footwear is rockin'!

I will buy the Mach 5 shoe next week :word:

I feel so sad that this movie is such a bomb.
The thing is: I can't see any other way than this to make Speed Racer with real actors.

But I've always thought that completely CG would have been the way to go.
Speed Racer wouldn't have needed photorealistic CG like Polar Express or Beowulf.
For example, I thought that TMNT had pretty good animations that fitted the background of the characters. And the budget was just 35 million $!

well, that' s just my opinion

WHERE DID YOU FIND THOSE SHOE PICS?!?!?!?! I have been looking everywhere for those!

OMG!
I want the Mach 5 shoes NOW!
I don't care how much they will hurt my feet, they're gorgeous.
Stupid Flat Feet

They are $90 on the but oh so worth it!

I just bought them today at my local puma store.

they're the greatest things I've ever owned and i'm wearing them as i type this.

did anyone get the official movie book? i didn't even know there was one, i went to target and saw it there.

If anyone got it, or in general, there's a full body shot of Racer X, i was wondering if anyoen has it and wouldn't mind posting it.

I like the Racer X shoes more for some reason but Mach 5 are pretty cool too. It be easier to just get both. :woot:

Personally I got a real kick out of the film. I expect a cult following. I'm rather surprised at the overwhelmingly negative reviews (I mean, it ain't Scorsese but I'd expect more reviewers to be giving 7 or 8 out of 10, not 2 or 3). The visuals were obviously stunning, and it was skillfully directed and edited. The actors worked... not much room for anything else, really. The midsection was a bit of a drag, but the first act and the last half or third of the film were highly entertaining.

I loved everything about the movie (except Spritle and Chim-Chim :cmad). I enjoyed this more than Iron Man! I'm so sad this didn't do as well as it seems like it should've. I was one of two people in that theater today. Although, a grandfather and grandson walked in at the last hour or so of the film (what's the point of coming so late? Why bother?). I might go see it again just to support the film. Did it for TMNT, I'll do it for Speed Racer. And isn't it funny that I'm taking drivers' ed right now?
