Spider-man 3.1 finally?!

The scenes are good but their placement is off. I don't like it going from the break up to the scene in his bedroom. I love the extended scene though. But cutting from Harry's bombing to the dance? No. I liked how he did that AND got Eddie fired, then was strutting. It was better that way.

As bad as Spider-Man 3 was, don't forget there were way worse films that summer (Shrek the Third, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Transformers, etc).

Well, it's good to know it's coming. It does sound disappointing though as they would have cut more than they added in. Cutting key scenes like Aunt May giving Peter the speech before the final battle is baffling.

Also, there would be a number of scenes still missing (MJ's forgiveness speech to Harry, Eddie at Stacy's house, Sandman attacking the doctor) just a few I can think of.

I like the new footage. I HATE the editing, I HATE them cutting Aunt May out, I HATE that we didn't get any new Eddie scenes, nor the full sandcastle scene.

WTF SONY. I'm totally sending a complaint e-mail to them.

"Hi! I recently saw you guys released an alternate cut of Spider-Man 3 on Amazon, and purchased / rented it, and it seems slightly incomplete. I am sure you are going to be releasing it on disc as part of the new Spider-Man bluray trilogy set, released in June. Is there another version of this? Myself, and many fans are aware of the tons and tons of alternate and cut footage for this movie, and it seems like there should be addition or extra scenes which there should be some. I was curious to see if this is a test edit, or if you will be releasing the addition scenes on the bluray bonus features disc? I and many many other fans would absolutely love to see them, and have waited for 10 years to see them. hopefully this email will implore Sony pictures to release the footage, as we think it would greatly help the movie (of which I am a fan of). Thank you for your time and I hope to hear back from you soon."

Hoping this E-Mail gets through to them lol

Spider-Man...not quite 3? i guess to call it. Yeah, if they had released this cut, even I would probably dislike it. The first hour is the same, then whoever edited this must be a novice or have not cared, because this is ALL OVER THE PLACE. Even the new scenes have been chopped up. I liked the new footage, even if it isn't all of it. The sandcastle scene (even though they didn't release the full version) should have been in the movie. The changing of the Butler scene is 10/10 too. There's still a ton of cut footage that needs to be released, which frustratingly won't be. Oh well. A hybrid of this, a few more deleted scenes, and the theatrical cut would be divine, but oh well.

I am eager to see it. Underwhelming? Sure, but it's Sony so I'll take what I can get.

Still so many unanswered questions...

- Will Sony ever even mention this? It's out now and still nothing from them.
- Will it see a physical release next month? Later? At All?
- What happened with the title?
- Was Raimi involved at all? Does he have an opinion on this?

Doubtful. If it's out and there's no word? No way.
Probably on the new set.

I bet Raimi went back, and did a new cut, but then Sony didn't/couldn't fork over the money, or wanted to lowball him.

I don't know about anyone else but those new scenes they added in makes me want to see an Extended Cut of the movie even more. As for the Editor's Cut itself, I liked it. I did have a few minor gripes though, while there were parts that I liked where they added music that didn't make it into the final cut of the movie there were also parts where I didn't like some of the music changes (music at the beginning before MJ's show, the music playing during the scene with Peter and MJ with Peter swinging away before the crane scene, and the music at the very end of the movie with Peter and MJ). I wish they would've added some more scenes with Eddie Brock such as the scene with him and Gwen at her house, the full scene with him in the Church, the mirror scene, the scene with Sandman and the doctor before the Subway Fight, and they could've added in some stuff that were cut from the action scenes.

How basically useless.

Ah, well. Let's hope the other deleted scenes are included in the revised bonus features, but I won't hold my breath. Raimi is notoriously greedy with hiding his deleted scenes.

I wonder what the story is with this edit? Did Sam sign off on it? Maybe that's why it doesn't just add everything back in. Maybe this is what Raimi approved? But not adding back in scenes like Eddie Brock bugging Gwen at home--I mean, why WOULDN'T that get put back in?

Still, glad I never stopped believing. Sometimes where the evidence leads is to the truth.

Maybe with the new footage, someone can edit a definitive version of Spider-Man 3?

Curious to check this out, anyways. Surprised Sony didn't make any announcement for it.

I had always hoped the deleted footage would come out so I could experiment, but sadly this Editor's Cut doesn't appear to give you much to work with.

Sad that it seems to be underwhelming, glad the Sandman castle scene is in though. Some of those cuts sound really stupid, cutting Aunt May's scene? WHY?!?

I expected more honestly.

Well, if for nothing else, the removal of the dumb butler scene is always an improvement.

I can see why Aunt May's scene was cut. She travels to Manhatten just to stop in for two minutes, to tell Peter the same thing the always tells him, for him to give the ring back to her, only for her to leave it on the dresser and leave. It's kind of pointless.

It's also a lazy cut-and-paste of the same line from SM1.

Maybe this explains why Sony didn't make any big deal about it--they were seeking Raimi's involvement or blessing to heavily alter the film, but perhaps at the last minute he declined/rescinded the blessing and only gave them permission to release an earlier edit of the movie, as opposed to a fully different cut. A poster on the blu-ray.com forums actually contacted the editor of the film and he confirmed that they recreated an earlier edit of the film for this release.

Thus, Sony knew it wasn't worth hyping.

Maybe because he doesn't feel it would be a significant improvement on the movie. Like the UC of BvS doesn't. It just slaps a band aid on some of the minor issues, but overall the movie is still terrible.

That's a good point. I actually just checked it out a few hours ago, and I get why they are not hyping it up that much. With Spider-Man 2.1, I get why they hyped it up, because it was an extended cut by the director himself of a really good movie.

However, having said that, I still think its worth a watch for diehard Spidey fans. Mostly because I am still wondering whether some of the editing changes worked for the better or not. I feel like
the sandcastle scene is a definite plus, but some of the editing around Peter's symbiote arc could go either way. Also, even though I did not care much for the Aunt May scene, it did work as a transition for Peter to go back to his earlier, heroic self. Here, that transition is not that apparent, but it makes Peter's narration at the end that much more poignant.

I don't know, it's definitely worth a rental, just for some of the questions it leaves you with. The cut also goes to show whether some changes in editing changes the entire impact of a scene or the whole change is just superfluous.

I think SM3 can be saved. BvS was terrible from the a script POV. At least SM3 is salvageable.
