Jamie's(TMT) spidey senses were right from the beginning.

after 2-3 scripts and 2 writters they didnt know what villain to use? come on.

its over OK?its over. if Raimi after 3 spiderman movies can not have the final word on the villain then he has no reason to stay there. why should he fight for this? he should move on and do something new. he already made 3 SM movies. end it now.

Yep. It's also very reminiscent of SM3. Raimi wanted Vulture and Sandman, Sony wanted Venom, we got Venom and Sandman. Now Raimi wants Vulture, Sony wants Black Cat and another villain, so an attempt at a compromise was apparently Vulture and a terrible Black Cat/Vulturess hybrid monstrosity.

Just think, if we had gotten Vulture and Sandman in SM3 and Venom hadn't been shoehorned in, Sony would have an obvious choice of villain who could easily carry a film on his own for SM4. Shortsightedness, Sony. Shortsightedness.

Agreed, and its all the more reason for them to keep their noses out of this one.

I think Raimi should jump ship if things keep getting messier between him and the studio.

Maybe that way Sony will start working those meta reboot/semi-continuation scripts that Vanderbilt has been working on for a couple of years for them.

Raimi now should just focus on his next franchise which is World of Warcraft.

I'm really against a reboot because;

you'll get the origin. AGAIN.
you'll get green goblin. AGAIN
you'll get doc ock. AGAIN.
all this before seeing the lizard and other spidey villians.

ifthey would do a reboot in 3 years i am pretty sure that GG and Ock wouldnt be in the first movie.

i bet they woud use the Lizard and would change the origin a little.

Don't think even Sony has any of that in mind at all.

It would continue the story only with a completely different director at the helm with a whole new cast.

Art design, and character dynamics would all be changed according to what the director thinks fitting.

Think what The Incredible Hulk (2008) was to Hulk (2003). Plus Sony already has this in mind anyway.

SM4 was supposed to be the "proper" send off to Raimi's take on SM but things are seemingly falling apart. If they can't all get together behind something, Sony might as well just start with their plan to continue the SM story only with a new directors perspective.

So the postponing story wasn´t BS after all and the studio was doing damage control. Incredible, they got a Pulitzer Prize winner(Aguirre), the writers of Zodiac (Vanderbilt), Pleasantville, Dave and Seabiscuit (Ross) and the thing is still not quite there yet.

So the story that the studio doesn´t want Vulture but doesn´t know which villain they want either may be true as well. I wonder if they´re also reacting to the highly negative response to the rumor (or fact) that Felicia isn´t going to be Black Cat but a "Vulturess" or something.

The good news is they´re more concerned with getting the script right instead of rushing to get to the date. Tom Rothman would just say, "f*** the script, rush this s*** and make the date!"

Before you people say, "this means the movie´s gonna suck!", scripts that took a long time to get to shooting level and are redone a hundred times are nothing new, there are classic movies that had big rewrites even during shooting.

whether sam stays or not I will always have SM2 which a thought was ****ing fantastic. sure people want wisecracks and humour and this and that but for me that movie in the superhero genre has only been bettered by TDK. so no raimi wasn't a terrible choice for spidey, he hit SM2 out of the frigging park and I watched SM2 again after watching the likes of BB and Iron man and I MUCH perferred SM2.

Well it looks like one of the earlier scripts focused entirely on the Vulture.

But when Sony wanted to include another "villain/love interest" which would be Black Cat they brought in other writers to try and mix the stories together.

Creating a hodgepodge cluster**** of a story which brought in the Vulturess somehow.

Eww. Even just thinking of this Frankenstein of a mixture makes my head hurt.

No wonder they stopped production to regroup. This idea of melding the studio and directors wishes just sounds terrible. Feel bad for the scriptwriters honestly.

I would love to see the director of "District 9" or "Star Trek" take the helm.

raimi must be the biggest wimp in hollywood. if 2.5 BILLION doesn't buy you power and creative control then what does?

when I read some of the comments about raimi, SM1 and SM2 I can't help but think the same people will walk over hot coals to watch those movies if (as I suspect) the new director comes in and sends spider-man down the toilet.

sure you can have a new director and take the character to new heights ala nolan or you can have a new director who sends the character to new depths ala ratner, schumacher...

I'm not a better man but I bet the latter will happen rather than former.

This could be a blessing in disguise really. What's better? Rushing a movie into production that has a crap script. Or fine tuning it and taking your time to make a quality product?

Being a great director.

I think he IS a great director
if we're talking body of work

evil dead 2
AoD
drag me to hell
darkman
quick and the dead
SM1
SM2 - my second favorite superhero movie of all time

if we're talking box office power
2.5 BILLION for the spider-man franchise, how many directors have grossed more?

This has nothing to do with directors being "wimps" or not. The studio controls the franchise and can do whatever they want with it, they can fire a director in the middle of production and get somebody else, they can even edit stuff out of the finished movie without the director´s approval - unless his contract has a "final cut" clausule, which is very rare. If anything, given Raimi´s early interviews, it´s Sony that´s not fullfilling its word of giving him creative control.

Why does it always have to be some sort of crappy ultimatum?

Raimi has had a good amount of time with the series. Would it be good if they all work things out and Raimi will be able to contently work on SM4?

Of course. I still loved what Raimi did in both SM1 & 2. I still have faith that he can make a good SM film.

What I'm worried about is the lack of partnership and mutual amiable negotiating that Sony and Raimi are unable to do.

Thats the thing. I don't want another or possibly worse than SM3 to be birthed after all is said and done because of major disagreements during pre production.

All I'm saying is if they can't agree its better for Raimi to step down as he won't be able to create his vision and Sony if they lack the confidence find a director that is capable and willing to work with some of the studios recommendation (demands).

rotten tomato

1. TDK 94% av 8.5/10
2. SM2 94% av 8.3/10
3. STM 93% av 8/10
4. IM 93% av 7.6/10
5. SM 90% av 7.6/10

five of the best rated superhero movie ever and sam made two of them. look at the average score for SM2.

Exactly, which is what happened to SM3, the studio pushed Raimi to do a character he didn´t like - neither do I, particularly -, Venom, and it felt half-assed.

Well Raimi should nut up or shut up then. He's made them 2.5 billion dollars, he needs to start throwing the weight around that comes with that.

the sad thing is if sony had left sam the hell alone in SM3 and let him do the GG2, sandman/vulture story

a) almost certainly it would have been a better more cohesive movie

b) the villian for the 4 movie would have been OBVIOUS and he would have enjoyed more screen time because the GG2 arc would have been completed.

****ing idiots

I'm happy that they don't want to rush the script just to make the release date but its quite troubling that after so long and so many writers that the story isnt quite right yet.

It does sound like the studio is getting involved again which is exactly what they need NOT do. I'm not too sure about Vulture for the villain but if thats what the director has in mind then they should trust him. I enjoyed all three movies, yes three was flawed but stilll better than most of the other comic book crap we've gotten.

it looks like after 6 years Sony found out that they can push Raimi around and they will nto stop it.

Raimi needs to leave some '' f... you '' and some '' burn in helll'' at their door.

Raimi is big. he is able to make quality movies. and he knows how to have fun on movies(drag me to hell). if this is really true he doesnt need Sony to rape him in the a.....
