The Amazing Spider-Man "SPIDER-MAN 4 Production on Indefinite Hold "....NOT!...or Maybe?

A reboot is definitely not needed. Just a continuation with a new cast and director. I really like the villains in the Movies, but I was never fond of Raimi's take on Peter Parker and Mary Jane. His JJJ being nothing but comic relief or his inclusion of all the cheesy bits. I think the movies needs a breeze of fresh air. And hopefully MJ won't end up as bait for the 4th time in a row.

After all the latest superhero movies, I´ve seen how hard it is to get even one director that gets the material as well as Raimi did IMO - at least the first two movies. I have very little confidence in the prospect of replacements. Especially now that the studio seems more interested in what´s "hip" than making the best movie and respecting the filmmaker´s vision.

If there is problem with Peter and Mary Jane, it's this:

I think Tobey is great as Peter, but I think the role as written also all over the map. We get that he's this smart but nerdy fellow, but beyond that, I wish he just had more of a 'kick' to him. I think there's not enough progression between the movies. You see it with Luke in the original Star Wars. Of course, it doesn't have to be this big 'arc' mind you. I just think as the series went on..maybe Peter could be more confident..a little more witty. A natural maturity since he's at that age where it happens rapidly.

Mary Jane should be more sassy. At least, that's what I remember her from the cartoons from the 90s: a red headed retro-hipster Zooey Deschanel type. A girl who can charm you with her smile.

It's so weird that a few years ago, we were complaining how evil Fox was in how they micromanage their movies. But look at Sony.

Exactly, I feel like that Simpsons ep where Bart is middle-aged, "what happened to you man, you used to be cool!"

There has been an evolution, but then again once a nerd, you´re pretty much a nerd for the rest for your life. My biggest problem was they tried to keep him nerdy and dorky even when he was influenced by the black goo. Problem is they intended to bring MJ closer to Gwen cuz she originally wasn´t in the franchise, then they brought her character in the third.

Man, i feel like the Spiderman franchise in general is a complete mess now. The movies are in turmoil, the spectacular cartoon is more or less cancelled, the comics have been mediocre since One More Day, what happened to marvel's flagship character?

I'll forever hold onto the memory of the summer of '04 where it was truly good to be a spidey fan. fortunately I'm also a thor fan so I have SOMETHING to look forward to :oldrazz:

C'mon guys, dont fall apart. There is still hope on the horizon. Not everything is doomed.

Please. Spider-Man is the 800 lb box office gorilla here. It opens whereever it wants to. Maybe they worry about Harry Potter or POTC, box office juggernauts too, but Marvel has a lot more to worry about their unproven franchises than Sony does about their proven box office juggernaut.

Uhh... they are not gonna make May. That's the whole point. If they want to settle for a less than stellar date in June, or a loaded July month, that's their problem. Not my money so I am not concerned for Sony. I was already worried about Cap to begin with and I won't be suprised if it doesn't make its date as well. Regardless, July is a terrible month for Spidey with Potter and TF3. Unless TF3 moves out again, which could happen.

i dont' care if its delayed a little as long as its not as bad as Spidey 3 and they get it right. just don't make us wait too long Sony.

They could make a good SM4 if they just use the Lizard for the villain and just copy that episode of "The Spectacular Spider-Man" where the Lizard was in it.

Black Cat can be an amazing character. If spectacular spider-man has shown us anything. I would also like to see more Gwen Stacy, actually do something with her character, because the actress is pretty good.

At this point, yes, I would be OK if they killed of Mary Jane, if they do a great death sequence. Switch it with the death of Gwen. There you go.

Lizard should be the main villain. No Vulture.

You'd think once you've been bitten by a genetically enhanced Spider and gained all these amazing abilities, that you'd also grow a proper pair of balls. But he sounds whimpy throughout the Movies. The only time I thought he actually had the proper attitude was when he was in the ring fighting against Bonesaw. Or the brief moment in the Bank against Doc Ock.

The thing that I feel is missing, is that Peter and Spidey are two seperate personalities, to an extent anyway.

When Pete's got the mask on it should be a release, he's not that little geeky kid anymore. He should be more confident etc. I just haven't really got that from any of the films so far. And it's more than just wise cracks.

Yeah, it's not really Spider-Man. It feels like Peter Parker with a mask on. It's like Superman still acting like Clark with the glasses off.

pushing it back a year i a good thing imho, that means 2012, so the big superhero movies would be spidey and avengers (and maybe batman).

when I was reading spidey growing up it was always about peter first. I have no problem with peter having the lion's share, what I don't like is when spidey takes him mask off. when peter is peter that's fine when spidey is spidey he should BE spidey.

They keep giving us Peter Parker even when he has the spidey costume on by ripping his mask apart. That is suppose to be spidey's screen time, not Peter's.They don't even give the two characters equal balance where we see both characters for the same ammount of screen time.

It's just Peter 95% of the time and when we get spidey for 5% they try and take spidey's mask off so we only get to see spidey for 2% of the movie.

I'm not sure what postponing it a year is going to do though, sony's arguing over a villain but really what villain are they going to do at this point. You basically have mysterio, lizard, vulture and electro, that I can think of off the top of my head. Is the general public going to really care about which one it is. Spider-man 3 screwed a 4th movie because they basically had 3 storylines that could have been made into 2 films. Harry's role was basically worthy of a film itself. Venom, another character that could have been on a film by himself. At this point I really don't see what the point of a fourth film is other then to make money.

I'm not that concerned. To me, it's saying that they're taking there time and wanting it to be a great film unlike SM3. ALl these writers and changes to me are a good thing. It means they care.

And I'm fine with this vision of Peter and Spider-Man. On film, I can buy Peter acting more confident in the suit in the first film, possibly thinking he is and tries to act more confident. But in real life if you put yourself in that suit and mask, and fighting bad guys, you're still Peter underneath. The real world still carries on your shoulders. It shouldn't be as simple as two different personalities.

And I'm fine with him not quiping. I think it would be irritating with him spitting out quip after quip. Especially how they're major set piece action scenes with no time to say much. He is trying to save lives.

Mary Jane on the other hand, I don't mind her as a character as written in some aspects, but I don't like Dunst anymore.

Yeah they could of had a awesome SM3 if they just made Harry and black spidey the only villains and a awesome SM4 if they would of used Venom as the only villain.

But their greed ruined SM3 and now SM4.

The problem is the Spiderman movie franchise has made too much money for Sony so they intend on milking the cow dry. Sony wants at least three more sequels, they're trying to turn it into a film series like Harry Potter. Regardless of what anybody thought of SM3, it banked a TON of money, so Sony has no intention of ending the franchise anytime soon.

I agree, and that's why I have faith that the movie won't be delayed too much. I just hope that they listen to Raimi this time. Some compromises are going to have to be made, and I hope they give in to Raimi more than he gives in to them.
