The Amazing Spider-Man "SPIDER-MAN 4 Production on Indefinite Hold "....NOT!...or Maybe?

I´m sick of the current obsession with wanting to reboot everything at any side of trouble. This is not a franchise that has been ruined with no redemption in its current form. Batman seriously needed a fresh start, so did James Bond, so did Star Trek. There´s nothing so inherently wrong with Raimi´s take on the franchise that you need to restart everything from scratch again. If the studio can´t make up their mind on who the villain should be, that´s gonna be a problem regardless of the director and crew.

But it's not just a minor trouble this franchise is dealing. The problem is 'where are you going with these characters?' Almost all of them are one dimensional. The whole universe set up by Raimi works just for one film and it becomes repeated with the next. The lack of story and plot issues after three films with already established characters only proves that.

Insiders claim Raimi is still keen to sign John Malkovitch to play the villainous Vulture for the 4th movie while rumors had been swirling that the studio wanted to bring in Anne Hathaway to play love interest and superheroine Black Cat. But, Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood claims the studio has backed off Hathaway once they realized she would be too expensive.

If Raimi's choice for villain in SM4 is only Vulture (with maybe Black Cat), then I hope they can go back to the drawing board and make a better decision, because I don't want to see an old man with body suit and wings be the primary villain of Spidey. What a shame to waste two great villains in SM3.

Vulture offers great aerial combat, and he is someone you can make more threatening by having intelligence to go with his flight. I think he would be a solid choice. He worked well in the comics for years. I disagree with this sentiment that he is just an old man with wings. Many things can be done with him, and he'd be visually cool. Plus, Raimi seems to have a vision behind this character, and given he is a character he has wanted to use before, I think he'd use him well.

:whatever: if it wasnt for studios, big budget movies, like the one you listed, wouldnt get made.
Are you in the studios? Do you know how every single thing that went down in the studio? No? Then stop blaming studios for ALL the evil that goes on.

- True if it wasn't for studios these movies wouldn't be made, but sometimes they just need to back off and let the director do what he wants. And yes the director is at fault sometimes.

- The studio is the blame for the downfall the original Batman franchise just as much as Schumacher is. They're the ones who wanted to stop with the dark storylines and make it more like the Adam West TV show. It's also why Burton and Keaton left.

- I believe it was Fox's decision to make Galactus a cloud because of their ridiculous belief that armor-clad giants would be laughable. This is also why we didn't get Sentinels in the X-men movies. Poetic justice when Transformers was released and trounced FF2.

- Yes Raimi is to blame for the stupid dance numbers and crap, but Venom shouldn't even been in that movie to begin with. It was set up for Harry to be the villain, not some alien symbiote that hadn't been introduced yet. He was gonna be rushed. Venom is a complex character that needed building up and there's no other way to do it except spanning the plot for at least two movies. And again I say if they had just been patient and waited until the goblin arc was done then he'd be the obvious choice for SM4 and he'd most likely get more screentime than he did. They're also the reason we missed out on what could have been an epic air battle between Harry and Vulture.

Believe it or not. The Symbiote was the entire focus of Spider-man 3. And they were right, that is what the fans wanted, Raimi was just not the director who had a passion for bringing a good Venom to the screen. In that respect, it is Raimi's responsibility. HE'S A DIRECTOR, HE DOESN'T GET TO ALWAYS CHOOSE WHAT MATERIAL HE HAS TO USE, but he could have definitely used the material better. It's his job to do what the studio says, because the studio pays the bills. I really don't think Sony is that bad of studio, just because they don't see vulture as a good villain? And saw Venom as a good villain? Well, vulture isn't a good villain, and venom is a good villain...so... The studio has hundreds of millions of dollars involved! That's a lot of money, Of course they want to make sure the movie is the best it can possibly be. Because they don't want another Spider-man 3. And Vulture is not a great villain! So pick a good villain, and let's move on. This is all assuming that what we hear is the truth, which in all reality it could just be another stupid rumor.

We missed out on a lot of things when it comes to these films.

I just don't see much potential from Vulture at all, but if Raimi has some great, unique ideas for him I'd be willing to keep a somewhat open mind. However, I thought the logical choice would've been The Reptile, since Prof. Connor has been around since SM2. I also think that after the letdown that was SM3, Raimi needs to do a much better job with SM4, and Vulture imo is not the kind of comeback I was envisioning.

Great and unique coming from Raimi & Co., have you seen the previous films?

Yes, if you are preferring to the Power Ranger Green Goblin, I do accept that it was rather "unique".

I think two solid villains would be the way to atone for SM3. Like another member mentioned before if Raimi really wants Vulture then he should just do what he was gonna do in SM3, but with Electro having Sandman's role.

I would also like a villain that can't be beaten by Spidey just using his fists. That's where Electro comes in. He can make it so Spidey can't touch him, so he'll have to use his brains in order to beat him.

I'm still wondering who the studio wants. They apparently want a villain where you can see his face(Pretty lame), so I guess that counts out Lizard because he's a beast and Mysterio and Scorpion since they wear masks(or a fishbowl in Mysterio's case). They don't want Vulture who DOES have a human face.

That leaves Kraven and Electro as the only bigger villains left. But it would really suck if Kraven was in but not Lizard and Electro sometimes wears a mask.

Either way, William Defoe rather countered all negative aspects of his appearance with what I believe to be a great villain.

You know the first Spiderman film was overrated. The Green Goblin looked like a power ranger, no reason for that. Even back then they could have given him a sinister look like he has in the comics. Oh, wait, don't want to scare the kids.

The third was garbage. I'm glad the 4th is having problems. I never understood the big deal with Spiderman. The trilogy seemed like one long after school special for me.

I don't think Raimi had another problem with adding another main villain. I just think Sony felt they needed a strong supporting character with Harry gone, so enter BC. That's where Raimi felt Sony was meddling too much with it.

It was rather CR@P.
In YOUR opinion. I actually didn't mind it. I mean, we knew the suit was going to be different for the film.

It was the more realistic option. It would've been more realistic than a green jackal looking guy wearing purple underwear and a purse. Just saying.

I think Sony is actually the good guy this time & trying to persuade Rami NOT to do this Vultress BS, in favor of Lizard (since everyone wants him).

Best situation would be Sony lets Rami do Vulture, but not Vultress & instead he adds Lizard. Which the f***ing bastard has been teasing for in 2 god d*** movies!!!

No, another SM3 is exactly what Sony wants, since SM3 made over 900 million dollars. They don't care if the story is any good as long as people go and see the film.

Connors being in the films doesn't mean he's going to become a villain. I'll go into Lizard more below.

Based on the sources that were posted in this thread, Sony wants that Vultress non-sense, and are not keen on the idea of the Lizard cause they want a villain who looks more human.

I can see not using Lizard. Like I have been saying, much of Lizard's story was used in SM2 and added to Ock. Also, how has he been hinting at it for several films? Just because Connors is there? That doesn't mean he intends to make him the Lizard ever. That just means he decided to use the character on a regular basis. It's not like he has alluded to becoming the Lizard ever in the films.

I dont think Sam was ever actually intending on giving us the lizard though. I think he just had Conners in there for fan service nothing more.

Spider-man will make money "Spider-Fan", period. Yes, Sony cares most about money, but they also care about being critically liked, liked by the audience, and to an extent like by fans, why? Because people go and give Sony more money if critics like it, if people like it, and if fans (internet popularity) likes it. It's called having legs, without the quality, it will not make as much money as it could have. Meaning, Spider-man 3 could have made a lot more money, if it was a lot more liked.

These issues didn't bother Sony when they forced Venom down our throats, and they clearly didn't learn from that if they're dictating plot points and forcing in villains to Raimi again. At least they are trying to iron out all the problems before shooting the film, but Sony I still don't feel care too much about how good it is overall. If they did, they wouldn't be forcing down idiotic ideas into the script like it seems they have been...again

Dude, everyone WANTED VENOM! And hardly anyone wants vulture. So, the studio sounds right to me. If the rumors are right.

He's been trying to work the Lizard in since Spidey 2. As mentioned above, it's the studio that's aparently against the Lizard.

Okay, then who does everyone want? Lizard? If the studio cared what we wanted, he'd be the pick, but Spony apparently doesn't want him. Where do you go now? GG, Ock, and Venom are used, so the big guns are off the table. The rest are your Electro, Mysterio, and Vultures of the world. So, where do we go from here?
