My personal opinion is that the villain subject is not much essential now with this franchise. The story is.
Almost all important villains were used and done for. Only Mysterio would produce some level of excitement because of his uniqueness and the way of his portrayal on screen.

These statements only assured me the thing I feared most. They still don't have the right story!
Again they will come up with some consensus in the last moment and maybe even the right villain will be used, but again it will be that same simple story about Peter's life and love, and a potential threat to NY, and Aunt May's wisdom, the comedy of Jameson, and MJ's kidnap and rescue.

It's a shame that precious time and resources will be lost and this film will eventually be made. The film which will seal the fate of this franchise until the eventual reboot.

Yeah they could of had a awesome SM3 if they just made Harry and black spidey the only villains and a awesome SM4 if they would of used Venom as the only villain.

But their greed ruined SM3 and now SM4.

I'm not sure if that would have a good idea just to have Harry/Black Spidey. Because we had just gotten a movie with a goblin as the main villain. Fanboys might not have cared, but the GA most likely would not have accepted it. And I think Raimi wanted the story to go end up with Pete and Harry coming back together as friends before he died. ie teaming up against some other villan/s.

I say the movie could have also included Sandman, but without the Uncle Ben retcon. If they really wanted a revenge theme they could have made it so that either Aunt May or MJ got hurt in a sandstorm caused by him or something.

But...Venom would of been a good villain if there was more focus on Brock, more development for him. Coz I'm not being funny, him wanting Parker dead and hating him so much just because he cost him his job and dated a girl Brock fancied is a bit stupid. Unless they showed Brock being a bit unhinged in the first place, which they didn't.

The Spectacular Spider-man has shown us many great things. One of those many things is that Venom can be a great villain, the symbiote could have been a much better villain. You just can't rush him. But you will never get a good venom/carnage story out of Sam Raimi, because he doesn't like the character.

the black cat might be a good thing for these movies. I honestly feel sick of Mary jane after the last movie and the whole damsel in distress part of the movie that we all know is coming could be a little different with Black Cat instead of Mary Jane.

Not quite sure how I feel about the vulture. he might be really cool looking and Raimi has honestly done a excellent job with Green Goblin, Dock Ock, and Harry Osborn. Venom and Sandman's visuals were both perfect, but everything else about the characters sucked. So I can't say I'm really confident in Raimi's decision abilities. The studio forced Venom which made the movie even worse which leaves me no confidence in their ability to choose a villain either.

Yeah that didn't take long. POTC is still a stretch with Marshall stalling, but it's apparently only a month and a half of filming. Kind of close to Thor, but there is no other date for it unless they bump it a week or something minor.

As a long time viewer of these boards and first time poster,let me first off say hello.Secondly,I am not a comic book spidey guy,although I do know of the classic villains,most of my knowledge of spidey came from the 80's cartoon series,and it was a casual interest at best until the first movie came out which I loved.The second one is STILL my favorite superhero movie,the third,well...I was a little disapointed with the costume of Harry's goblin,and felt Venom was waaaaayyy under utilized ,but overall,the film was still good,not the best of the three,but good in it's on way.
With all that said,I truley wish Raimi would have done 3 the way he wanted and used both the Vulture and Sandman as the main antagonists with Harry helping Peter in the end to defeat them,thus setting up the fourth for Venom,and THE LIZARD.Since what's done is now done,I must say there is no way the Vulture can carry a film on his own,unless he is more of a background puppeteer of another villian.This is just my humble opinion.
The real story to be told here would be the Lizard/Kraven storyline,and I feel I am not alone.I really don't see the need for another love triangle story.I guess only time will tell what we will get,I just hope it's a good STORY....Remember how terrible the Batman movies of the 90's got after the first two,the only concern were who are the villains..the story of the main characters needs to be interesting and paramount for the film to be good,doesn't it? All this being said,Raimi is good but also needs to realize the fans,want,no,deserve to see the lizard/kraven stroyline if this is going to be his last go at the directors chair.

There is one problem. It's going to be the same thing all over again. A sympathetic villain with a personal connection to Peter. It's too coincedental that yet another person Peter knows accidentally becomes a villain against their will.
