What i wanna know is what villain(s) does Sony want from Sam?

I don't have a problem with a winter release. It's something new for a change. I don't know why there is this written rule is that studios need to put their major action tentpoles in the summer only. Sherlock Holmes and Avatar are doing fine. Just try it out. If not, I am afraid Sony is going to have to clean house. 2012 will have stiff competition as well, and five years is TOO long a lay off for a sequel.

They wanted BC minimum... Sam probably told them to **** off like he did when Venom was pitched by Arad. They brought in some writers to mesh the two together, Vultress magically appears, Sam probably vomitted along with fans, and here we are.

If this all holds together, I doubt you'll even see this incarnation of Spider-Man 4 on screen.

Seconded.

I realize Raimi wanted to end his time on the franchise with a high note, but I think he needs to move on.

Fitting... let this interpretation die with SM3, start anew with fresh faces. A lot of fans wanted that in the first place.

I would imagine this is the beginning of the end.

It was always strange that the writer Sam Raimi didn't want working on Spider-Man 4 any longer was rehired to work on "Spider-Man 5 and 6".

I can wait to find out what Vanderbilt's script is all about. Hopefully that stuff gets leaked ASAP, for those interested of course.

Well here is to hoping the Venom spin off doesn't suck.

That kills the "We hope to make it for July 2011" excuse. I don't know anyone who honestly bought that anyway. It's not hitting 2011.

Maybe not summer 2011, but I don't see why SM-4 couldn't be released in November 2011. The Twilight and Harry Potter series have done spectacularly well during Thanksgiving through New Year's.

There's no reason why studios should just keep the superheroes in the summer all the time. GL was originally set for a December 2010 release before being pushed back to June 2011.

Maybe Warcraft will get fast tracked now.

If i was sam, i would just let it go because one of my professors from college knows him (more of an acquaintance).

He said that after Spider-Man 3, Sam drastically aged. "Looked so worned out", I remember he said. I just don't want this franchise to drag him down..(to hell). hoy hoy

Exclusive: The villain from Spider-Man 4 will be Cathy Mitchell, the Express 101 lady.

The first Spider-Man was set for November 2001.

A late summer release will hurt Spider-Man 4 after all the blockbusters plus Thor, Green Lantern and Captain America. A November Thanksgiving release would be good or push it back to summer 2012 if Sony is going to dick around.

Why? TDK was released in late July in similar conditions and out grossed them all.

I think the production studios just like the sound of "summer blockbuster" more than "Winter hit" or something. I just realized that Thor, Cap and GL are all slated to come out that year. Damn 2011 is gonna be one hell of a year for comic fans.

a new generation? The movies aren't even that old.

It's like rebooting Star Wars every 10 years, for each new generation.

The first film is nearly 10 years old . The actors have been playing the roles nearly a decade and their age is showing . Batman Begins was rebooted 8 years after Batman and Robin and Casino Royale a reboot from Die Another Day six years, so it's not unheard of to reboot that soon. However ,I do think a new Spiderman film should be rebooted in about 10 years.

it's funny how disposable these franchise are then.

I say, go ahead and get new actors later on, but don't 'reboot' it. Just continue the storyline.

I've never heard of a franchise that has done as well as Spider-man financially, be completely rebooted. I guess Batman is the closest, but Batman 4 completely killed that franchise. Spider-man 3 was nothing near that horrid piece of crap. If they get new actors, fine, but we don't want to watch another origin story, with another green goblin, because the first time was good enough.

Exactly.

At some point the current cast and Raimi will step off the franchise (which every bit of information seems to indicate will be pretty soon).

What Sony will do with it after that is up to them.

I think they'll just continue off of what Raimi has created with another directors take on the whole series.

No need for a full reboot although I'm not particularly against the idea. It might start off with unused villains and then after say two movies starts getting back to the villains already used (Doc Ock and GG).

SM4 could be compared to The Mummy 3 which came out in August 2008 after 7 years since The Mummy 2.

TDK was a great film and had great marketing while whatever Sony puts out will likely be crap and released in early or mid August if it goes summer 2011. There will be more competition and with each sequel earning less than the previous one, SM4 will be lucky to make $300 million. And summer 2011 is much stronger than summer 2008. By August movie goers will save their money if word of mouth is bad plus catching up on films from the biggest July ever.

May
• Thor (Par.) - 5/6
• Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (BV) - 5/20
• The Hangover 2 (WB) - 5/26

June
• Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom (P/DW) - 6/3
• Green Lantern (WB) - 6/17
• Cars 2 (BV) - 6/24

July
• Transformers 3 (P/DW) - 7/1
• Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part Two) (WB) - 7/15
• The First Avenger: Captain America (Par.) - 7/22
• Battleship (Uni.) - 7/29
• Smurfs (in 3D) (Sony) - 7/29

August
• The Mistaken (SGem) - 8/19

I must admit, Thor has very good placing for the summer. The First Avenger has pretty good to, except it's trailing Harry Potter the week before, and Transformers 3, the two weeks before that.

More harry potter and transformers?? Ugh

Agreed on Transformers. I'm not really looking to that nor do I have much faith in it because Paramount appears to be rushing to get that out by next summer, but don't tell me you were actually expecting not to be more Harry Potter movies.
