Marvel Animation Spider-Man: Freshman Year

I disagree, I think it could very easily work. For reasons I've already listed multiple times in this thread. I wouldn't expect it to be a long running series, rather just a mini series. And yea I got no problem with him wearing only the prototype suit.

I don't think they want it as a miniseries. They want a new ongoing Spider-Man animated show. Also, if it's MCU it means they can't use Osborn, Green Goblin, etc. Or Venom and symbiotes for that matter, which they will undoubtedly want to use at some point.

That's totally fine but they should have just started from scratch and come up with a new idea for the show instead of this "Not MCU but sorta MCU" hodgepodge show that we're getting.

Frankly, I didn't like it when they were jockeying this as an MCU-adjacent thing. It felt weird, forced, and confusing. If they want the show to be a success, it can't be tied to anything MCU-related.

Making this a prequel to the MCU Spider-Man would've been a dead-end to this series and wouldn't work. It also means Peter would be stuck in his prototype costume the whole time. Trying to connect it to the MCU would've been too difficult and confining.
MCU prequel is better than essentially stretching a What If episode into a full season. This show is also DOA

I mean they still are. One of the big things they keep using to promote this show is "What If Norman Osborn mentored Peter instead of Tony". Not to mention they are using existing MCU actors like Charlie Cox to voice some of the characters. Even though this is very much it's own universe now they are still treating it like an MCU-adjacent show. Like I said before, if they truely wanted a separate Spider-Man show that could stand on it's own and not be connected to the MCU, they should have started from scratch.

That's not unusual for animated shows. Hayley Atwell voiced Peggy Carter on Avengers Assemble. The FitzSimmons actors on Agents of SHIELD voiced their characters on Ultimate Spider-Man. There is precedence for Marvel Studios doing this in the past.

To me this show is starting from scratch, but it's still simply a younger Peter in high school, much like the previous Marvel Spider-Man animated series.

The difference is those shows were never meant to be in the MCU at any point in their development process. And the shows are very clearly distrinctly separate from the MCU. Not to mention (again) the basis of this show is built off a what if scenario from the MCU.

I actually think it's more related to Spider-Man animation rights. If they use Tom Holland, I think then Sony has to be involved in the creative cause they sort of share Holland Spider-Man. But Disney has the Spider-Man animation rights, so probably just that. Keeping the budget down by not paying Holland is just an added bonus

I'm not so sure about that. What If? uses a Holland-inspired MCU version of Spider-Man with a voice soundalike voicing Peter. Same actor voices Peter in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Hudson Thames. My understanding is Marvel has animation rights to Spider-Man to anything under like a 42-minute length. That might not be accurate though, so don't quote me on it.

The more I read about this, the more I don’t think this series is going to work. It seems all over the place.

The showrunner is having an appearance on the official Marvel Podcast next week to talk about this show, would be nice if we see a trailer soon- rumor is that it's premiering early November.

I saw a second of leaked footage from a D23 Steve Ditko tribute and it isn't much to go off of but I do like how it looked- visually I think this show is gonna be a beauty. I notoriously am a big enjoyer of the MTV cartoon's animation so this just looks like that with 2 decades of tech advancements and more flourishes. I just hope it doesn't alienate more longterm fans writing-wise, I feel like the 2010s Disney Spidey cartoons both did that to varying degrees but we're in a different era now.

It's not my ideal show for what I want out of a Spider-Man series, but neither was Spectacular Spider-Man, which many people loved.

A minute and a half of footage from D23 is out there now, it seems. The spider bite and what I'm guessing is the theme song. I really dig the theme song with all the comic book iconography like all the old corner boxes from the '60s through the '90s and the remixing of the classic 1960s theme song with some hip hop flair. I guess that's maybe similar to Marvel's handling of the iconic '90s X-Men theme recreating it for '97. I predict the Spidey costume in the theme song will change by the episode, considering he's wearing the proto suit entirely.

Yea I just watched it as well. Not a lot to go by but the them song is catchy I'll admit. The animation does seem interesting as well but not sure if that alone will help the show.

Love the retro designs. Can't stand the animation technique. Hate the music.
