As a New Yorker, how did you feel about them staying entirely in the outer-boroughs? I loved how it wasn't focused on Manhattan. Such an unexpected, brilliant choice for this friendly neighborhood Spider-man.

Nice to see New York as it really looks. Bodegas, Neigborhokds, suburbs, people of color, a realistic subway system. Felt like NY to me.

I really enjoyed it. I'm not a native New Yorker, I moved here from Michigan about three years ago to pursue acting (and for any NYC hype members, I'm in an off broadway production right now. If you're interested in seeing a nice little play, check out Sonder at The Players Theatre! I can provide discount codes for tickets. /endsalespitch). But I've lived in Brooklyn the entire time, and I'm in Queens quite a bit because I have a lot of friends there, and I've come to appreciate how different the boroughs can be. Everyone kind of assumes Manhattan is how all of NYC is, and that's not the case. The film did a great job with it. It also did a great job of showing a modern New York. Raimi's NYC very much felt like it was the New York of the 60s, when the comics he primarily based his Spider-Man on were written. This film felt like the NYC that I've been living in for the past three years, and I loved that aspect.

See I actually loved the timeless feel of Raimi's New York. That was filmed in 2000 but thank heavens they left out a lot of post-90's garbage like nu-metal or frosted tips.

That said, I loved how authentic this NYC felt. I've spent about a month total there so I have a very vague idea of what it actually feels like, but Homecoming felt right even to someone with as little knowledge as me. The ASM New York looked so stale and cold, this one felt alive and modern.

I'm wondering if in the agreement regardless of what Sony does if Marvel can keep using him in the MCU? Or is that limited?

I'm really hoping this gets to 120 or a little better this weekend, because it will be the highest grossing Spidey since the Raimi films. If it can get higher than SM3's 336 domestic that would be even better!

If the film rakes in the cash and the studio tries to back out of the deal that's when the executives might step in and put their foot down.

Sony has final say in all creative matters. They're on their best behavior at the moment but they still have the character in a chokehold. We better hope that this movie breaks bank and Sony doesn't get cocky.

I had a similar feeling watching the movie at times. The inclusion of certain characters and that mid-credits stinger. Felt like Sony decisions to me. Reminded me of the world building in Amazing Spider-man 2 and their after credits stinger and how Sony seem determined on building towards the Sinister Six.

Eh, Idk. Marvel world-builds in almost every single one of their films. Sony does it poorly, but Marvel does it well. This time it was done well IMO. So..... I don't know who to blame/give credit to.

It was great to see something other than Manhattan being used.

And so white. Like WTF.

As someone who lives in NY (more specifically the Queens area) and has grown up here, it was great to see in the film. Looked just like I walked outside my house.

The first Spider-Man movie had the Times Square that...looked nothing like Times Square.

I love that movie, though. I saw it on opening night at the Loews Astor Plaza theater on 44th St, which sadly, no longer exists (although I’m seeing MST3K Live at the theater that replaced it tomorrow night). That theater had more than 1400 seats, it was completely sold out, and it was insane. This was about 8 months after 9/11, and I think it was just an emotionally beaten up audience who desperately needed that movie....and man, did it deliver. That was such a great night.

I liked that they kept this movie based in Queens. The Avengers already had their Manhattan moment, even after the Muppets successfully took it back in 1984. :oldrazz:

My family’s from the Bronx, so I’m all for watching the outer boroughs get some love in these movies. And I hope they managed to fix that poor guy’s bodega.

I can sort of forgive that. The Raimi movies take place in an idealized dreamland.

My dad is train nerd...he’s going to love seeing the subways get so much love when we see it tomorrow.

Oh god, remember when SM2 had an elevated train running right through Manhattan?? :funny:

That must have been crazy. I'm from Alabama and saw the movie when I was ten years old and I can still vividly recall that day. I can't imagine how a post-9/11 New York responded to that film, particularly the bridge scene where everyone rallies around Spider-man.

I loved that moment, but was so sad to see Sony keep trying to return to that same well with the ASM series. The crane scene in ASM 1 and the crowd chanting Spidey in ASM 2 were downright unbearable.

Subways and Spider-man always had a special relationship. Anyone ever played the PS1 Spidey game? The subway level with Venom was awesome.

Moviebob conceptualized that as well as anyone could without being there.

If there is ever another Cap solo film, I would love for it to take place in Brooklyn only.

Yes :funny: As much as I love that amazing train sequence, it being elevated was

Which is fair. I was just thinking about how Sony seemed set on a S6 plan of some sort and still may be and their reckless plans for spin-offs like Venom.

Though on the flip side wouldn't the inclusion of that certain someone mean he won't turn up in any Sony spin-off? That could put the brakes on S6 plans and also explain Sony's reason for trying to secure people like Mysterious and Kraven for their movies.

I found it simply charming and very familiar with the Spidey stories I grew up reading. Well done! No spoilers but they really nailed it with this one.

Great game. Loved Venom's "surf the web" line and how Stan Lee narrates a little blurb about each unlockable costume.

Speaking of videogames. I was watching the truck hijack scene where Vulture detaches his wings and jumps in, I just thought that between that and Infamous' Electro like powered main character that I would like to play a Sinister Six game where I control these villains in an open world game.

It was so soon after, I remember some of the reviews in the NY press had warnings about some of the destruction scenes. They loved the movie, so it was more of a ‘head’s up’ than a legit warning. It did fine though, I don’t remember anyone being bothered by it.

And yeah, that “You mess with one of us, you mess with ALL of us!” was the best thing ever. You couldn’t hear the movie again for about 5 minutes after. :funny:

Yes :funny: As much as I love that amazing train sequence, it being elevated was

My sister gets SO mad at me when I point that out. She’s like, “We know there’s no train there, just watch the movie already!!” :funny:

That's amazing, just the right movie at just the right time. ****, do I love Raimi's first Spider-man.

The months after 9/11 were truly amazing here how everyone came together. I dunno if you're a sports fan, but my Yankees in that World Series (even though we lost) was such a huge healing factor. Especially for me. Those games we won at home were incredible. Games 3-5. :hrt:

He's referring to someone being corrected for being non-pc by referring to the game as 'Cowboys and Indians'. That's undeniably a PC moment, but something I thought was tongue in cheek rather than played straight.

The Washington monument being PC wasn't simply about the history, but Michelle's assertion she wouldn't go up it because it was built by slaves and her dopey white teacher being uninformed about it, to the point where she looked over to a random black guy for a confirmation look of disproval. Yeah, that moment was cringey in my eyes.

I didn't feel the the movie was written with that slant on PC in mind, outside of race changing a bunch of characters, but that latter scene did stand out to me as well.

Someone gets what I'm saying  Like I even said with my review they were small nit picks, but they bothered me none the less. They just felt unnecessary lines and didn't really add anything. Just my opinion.
those lines were woke AF and both played well in my theater

Saw the film last night. Thought it was web-slingingly fantastic and almost beats "SPIDER-MAN 2" for me as the greatest Spider-Man movie ever, but
I really did not care for Zendaya's Michelle ('my friends call me MJ' ugh no Marvel. No!) or Tony Revolori's Flash Thompson at all (though 'Penis Parker' was pretty damn funny.) The other younger actors, especially Angourie Rice as Betty Brant are barely used to their fullest potential and Holland's Peter Parker barely has any chemistry or screen-time with Liz proving to be the weakest parts of an overall great film.

Keaton, though, makes for a chilling and menacing Adrian Toomes/Vulture and I enjoyed Bokeem Woodbine and Logan-Marshall Green's Shocker #1 and #2 even if they were only used as henchmen.
