Spider-Man (PS4) - Part 2

I hope they actually made the subway like in Spider-Man 3. Fast travel when entering a train would be great but I hope we can web-swing in the subway tunnels if we want. I really liked that in Spider-Man 3. There were missions there too.
It will take too much development time and be very expensive, so I doubt they'll include a fully detailed and branching subway system.

I really enjoyed yanking thugs, bombers, and lizard men to the subway to let a train hit them.

I feel vindicated that Insomniac's creative director thinks the Neversoft Spider-Man game (PS1) is the best ever Spider-Man game (until now). In your face Spider-Man 2. I always thought the first fully 3D Spider-Man game was the best one. With that said, hopefully, Spider-Man PS4 blows it out of the water.

The two PS1 Spider-man games were (for their time) incredible, so engrossing and captured the character perfectly.

Obviously a current era Spider-man game will 'top' it but very fond memories of the earlier games and am beyond excited for September.

You know what costume I hope makes it in?

Don't judge, I love that suit, so gloriously retro.

Now that would be something, loved watching this as a child on Friday nights.

-Everything I heard is making me smile.

-Interrupting basketball games and other light-hearted mischief, unable to hurt civilians but rather be happy and chummy with them? YES PLEASE!

-All those costumes, each armed with abilities!

-The love of the Neversoft games is great, those things were fantastic and I sorely miss the fun of What If mode and the charm they held.

-The Venom comment is interesting. I know we've dealt with symbiotes a ton, in the past, but I'd love if Eddie has a cameo or is currently Anti-Venom and pops up for a brief part. I loved his brief friendship and interaction with Aunt May and Martin Li during this time. It could be something interesting for the Peter sections. Like you hear Eddie disappeared recently from the FEAST center, but notice he's been spotted outside the place multiple times. Pete fears the worst, eventually they have a confrontation, maybe a boss battle, but then he states he's just fighting Martin Li's inner demons and discovered his identity too.

-Alt costumes appear in cutscenes?! Holy...! This is awesome!

The only thing Spider-man 2, the movie game did great was web swinging (still the gold standard). In literally every other way, the Neversoft Spider-man game is better. Combat, game and level design, mission type and variety, fanservice and easter eggs, costumes, characters from the comics, cameos from other marvel characters, voices and voice acting, OST. You name it.

Hopefully this game can combine the two as well as bring in new elements for the ultimate Spidey game.

Some thoughts:

I'm not keen on the design of Norman Osborn either however if this is the biggest problem I have with the game, things are good.

I like the idea of implementing a crafting system. You need to aquire the right materials to craft suits and other gadgets--this really helps play into the brilliance of Peter and his abilities.

Has anyone from Insomniac talked about the different types of random crimes/activities that will be present in the game? For me, the open world is easily the most important aspect of any Spidey game that utilizes free roam. Beenox failed in this regard--too many cut scenes, etc. I know people always give SM2 crap for the balloon/kid scenario but SM2 also had over 15 different random activities...thugs, saving people from a sinking boat, bomb defusing, etc. I really hope Insomniac went the extra mile here.

I really like how in that video with Game Informer they talk about how there's good flow to both the combat and web swinging/traversal and you can really mix things up with multiple button presses. It's one of the things I really enjoyed about Arkham City--you felt really immersed in the gameplay because you actually had a great deal of control. I'm glad to hear that Spidey is now getting a similar treatment. Beenox attempted to replicate that experience but unfortunately with a diminished production schedule it ended up feeling more like a 'lite' version.

I'm sure 90% of the Spider-Man fandom considers that tv show the worst iteration of the character, but not to me. It left an impression on me back when I was in 7th grade. It has a charm to it. It also passed the long, agonizing wait for Raimi's Spider-Man.

Marvel posted this shirt on Instagram. Apparently this will be available at Gamestop. Pretty neat.

Todays new video: "How Web Swinging Works in Spider-Man"

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2018/04/06/how-web-swinging-works-in-spider-man.aspx

I thought this video was gonna be mostly unedited gameplay, but it's half old clips, half new clips, and it's all choped up with intercut video of the developers talking. Many of the clips are repeated, too. Disappointing.

But the game still looks buttery smooth. He does this amazing twisting front flip at about 00:55 and it gave me goosebumps when I saw it.

Edit:

Yeah, I was under the impression we were gonna get the footage of him swinging with the JJJ and Harry audio. Thought the dudes tweeted that. Pretty incredible footage, though. The part where he casually spins through a big cement pipe in traversal... wow. We've never seen Spidey move so gracefully in a game before, it's like watching him swing in the Raimi movies. Maybe could be even better.

Yeah, Andrew Reiner said specifically: "Listen to the voice, see if you can recognize it" in regards to JJ. So CEARLY we are supposed to get some raw gameplay of some sort with the JJ audio in it. Possibly he confused the release schedule of two different videos.

Either way, we still have over 3 weeks of coverage.

If anyone is interested, GameInformer uploaded just their talk about Spider-Man from yesterday's GI Show. It's about a half hour long and details the two days they spent at Insomniac's studios in Burbank and their thoughts on the game (spoiler: they really liked it)

Holy spider sense, just looks seamless and amazing, literally cannot wait.

That webswinging looks absolutely perfect.

From what I've read and hears, no one mentioned the types of street missions, but there won't be balloon rescue or delivery missions.
TASM 1 doesn't have the annoying cutscenes.

Haha, he *did* really want to use Kraven in BP originally until he found out he couldn't.
Isn't that because Christopher Priest used him in his Black Panther run?
He probably used his son Alyosha cause Sergei was dead at the time.
