Well, overheating and YLOD are not necessarily the same thing. YLOD refers to a general hardware failure. In most cases, this is caused by the continual heating/cooling of the system during normal use which leads to a degrade of the 'paste' on the CPU/GPU which then causes the chip to separate from the board. Overheating occurs when the system gets too hot. This is caused by lack of proper ventilation, build-up of dust within the unit, on the vents, etc. I think the PS3 has a shut down feature if the console gets too warm, not sure though, but ultimately overheating can be a factor in causing YLOD, they're not the same.
It seems to me to be a 'luck of the draw' situation. I kept my PS3 well ventilated, dusted, vacuumed the vents, and kept my house very clean but it still YLOD on me. And my use of the system varied...some days I would be on it for 6-7 hours between gaming and Bluray watching and then it might sit for 3-4 days before I used it again. Many of my friends/coworkers have the same issue...some after 3 years, some after 5...but then again I also know someone who still has a perfectly running launch 60gb with no issues except a BR lens replacement. It runs a little loud but otherwise it's good.
Good to know. Once my PS3 dies I won't replace it. Might repair if I can get it done cheaply. Otherwise will sell it & all games I don't want to keep for collection reasons and wait for them to become available on Gaikai however long it takes. Even though I love keeping old games in reality I don't actually end up playing them as much as I'd expected.
If mine fails I'm getting a slim. Gaikai might turn out to be great, but right now we don't really know how it will work. And I don't like repurchasing games I already own.
Adam Boyes stopped by Giant Bomb's E3 show last night and brought a PS4 with him. Damn that thing is tiny. Bigger than the Wii U, but it looked much smaller than the 360, PS3, and the Xbone.
Rotatable 3D model.
Pre-ordered PS4 with FIFA 14. So how many pre-ordered and which game?
Sony's Adam Boyes talks about #NoDRM's impact.
I pre-ordered mine with Battlefield 4.
For the rest of it, start the Giantbomb interview at around 3 hours and 18 minutes.
Exklusiv: Playstation-Chef Shuhei Yoshida Interview ( E3 2013 )
Interview with Sony Worldwide Studios President, conducted in English after the intro
Great interview, I watched it live. I wish it could have gone on longer.
That's thing I mentioned earlier where Adam brought a PS4 and everyone checks it out.
That must have been like Christmas morning for the guys.
They were pretty excited. It's great for us too because it gives a great sense of the size of the thing and how compact it is.
Since PS+ on a PS3 account transfers over to PS4 does that mean I won't have to pay for online gaming?
If you are still paying for PS+ when the PS4 launches then that means you are paying for online gaming on that system
Thats probably what I will do.
I bought the year subscription early this year,So IF I get a PS4 at launch or before the current subscription ends then I'm good?
And after that when I renew on PS3 or get it on PS4 it'll work for both consoles!?
Basically, you can use one account for your Vita, PS3 and PS4, and your Plus subscription applies to all platforms.
and thank god for that. It would be a mess if they had different Plus programs for the different platforms. Im covered until September 2015., so Im good for a while
"What a great idea!" said Microsoft.
I wish they had Uncharted 4. I like FIFA series but most time it's the same game.
|s PlayStation Plus great? Since I won't able to browse games on PS4/PSN for free I'm thinking paying yearly subscription so I can play some games I think are good as well Or am I wrong here?
