So, I went ahead and preordered the digital version of the game. I've never preordered a digital game before...On the day of release, when is the game available for download? Is it a set time for all games or does it vary from one game to the next?

AFAIK the preload starts Sep 5th, not sure though. You'll be able to play midnight for sure, almost all big games have preloads 1-2 days before release.

It'll be available at 12:00 AM September 7th.

A lot of games have preloads. So you can download it early, unlock it at midnight and have it ready to play at that time.

Awesome. I'll be able to play at midnight :woot:

I appreciate the replies, gents. Thank you.

I never pre-purchased a game digitally, so is that the norm?

That's how it has worked for every game I've pre-ordered digitally, downloads and installs a day or two before the release date, and unlocks for playing the moment you reach the release date.

I must say, I am incredibly excited for this new Spider-Man game. The last GREAT one was Spider-Man 2 on PS2, and the last one I sort of enjoyed was Shattered Dimensions.

I really dislike how the months are named in English, lol. Every time I think about the release date being in September, I'm like "That's only two months away now!" This is because I think September is the 7th month, because of the sept-.

Anyone think that this will spawn a new game series for Sony? I assume this game will be successful and we should expect sequels.

I hope this game will be good, but the game of the year will undoubtedly be God of War.

Most likely. But this Spider-Man game doesn't have to be better than God of War, it just needs to be really good in it's own regard. At the very least it needs be better than the past number of Spider-Man games.

If it becomes the best SM game, that will be more than enough. I'm skeptical, though. And that's good. No high expectations from me.

I think the game will be good, but it's a question of HOW good will it be? Insomniac is a good game developer for Spider-Man, so I'm not too worried.

Being better is easy to believe, being more fun is the true challenge.

I like that this game incorporates swing kick in combat, though what we got in the footage doesn't seem to be the fine experience from Spider-Man 2 and Web of Shadows of pressing that attack button while swinging to perform a swing kick that makes enemies fly.

Most definitely.

Did anyone here pre-order the collector's edition? I usually don't go for that sort of thing, but I figured it's a Spider-Man PS4 exclusive and I'm excited enough to do it.

So now its official that E3 will have a "deep dive" into Spiderman and other games such as Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima

This E3 is gonna rock

One thing that's a little concerning about this game is their apparent portrayal of Mary Jane.

“When we started talking about having M.J. in the game, we didn’t want her to be the same character she was in the comics,” Insomniac writer Jon Paquette says. “We really tried to focus on what would make her feel different. From there the conversation went to, “Okay, how to do we have a playable character who is more than just a sidekick?” Paquette adds.
“When she was introduced in the ‘60s, it was not unusual for a character like that to be the love interest or the damsel in distress or other outdated roles. So, we thought, ‘What can we do to give her more agency?’” says Marvel and Spider-Man writer, and co-writer for the game, Christos Gage. She doesn’t wait around for Peter to put on his suit to come save her. In the past, we have seen Mary Jane plead with Peter to stop being Spider-Man for his own safety, but that is not who she is in this story. "We’re tired of that. That’s not what is happening here. She’s actually saying, ‘Hey I just got a tip about this, you should probably check it out,’” Gage says. “And she’s helping him in a lot of important ways.”

This notion that Mary Jane is just a damsel in distress to those working on the game is pretty disconcerting. Here's hoping she's still very much Mary Jane.

Eh, at this point I expect adaptations to be different versions of the characters I know and love. Especially with Spider-Man--one of the most adapted characters in all of history.

But I agree that their statement about MJ being just a damsel in distress makes no sense. I do, however, thinks that means MJ is probably going to be egging Peter on to continue being Spider-Man. We see that Peter is considering stopping being Spider-Man once he takes Fisk down and obviously Mr Negative and others force him to continue but I think MJ will probably be a big reason too.

Maybe even for her own needs. She's an aspiring journalist at the Bugle--maybe she fears that her leads will disappear once Spider-Man does. A little selfish, but complex and human. So I don't know. I'm not too worried about it personally but I can understand how fans of her character will be disappointed.

Also: VERY excited for E3 this year. The 4 "Big Ones" that Sony are highlighting their conference with are all games I'm massively excited for. Less than a month now

Definitely picked up the collector's edition and the collector's box set, I suppose I'm going all out.

Looks like it's just what Sam Raimi did with the character.

What bonuses the collector's edition lavishes?

A physical copy of the game in a steelbook, the official art book, all the pre order bonuses (DLC, skill points, alternate suits, etc.), and the statue in the center.

Your best bet now, in the US, is to get one at Target or Best Buy. Outside of the US, I have no idea.

So the cover for a bunch of European cover stories was revealed (not sure what that is to be honest) and...it's the prequel novel's cover?

It's official, but the tweet doesn't say it's the book's cover. So I'm assuming it's both because this is clearly the cover to the novel.

EDIT: Also our first look at OSCORP way in the back there!
