Playstation Spider-Man (PS4) - Part 3

A few pages back, the sales figures for previous SM games were given, I can't see how this new one won't out-sell everything that has come before.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this took the no.1 sales spot and was considered the best Spidey game of the lot. In fact I'd be surprised if either of those two things didn't happen.

Apparently the preorders are off the charts. Insomniac stated in an article I read they are extremely humbled by the response and people putting faith in their product.

And unless we've been duped, is there anything we've seen so far to suggest this game won't be the king of Spidey games?

An original, open world free roam, AAA spider-man game. We've been waiting for this for a long damn time.

Great to hear. Nope, pretty much everything we’ve heard and seen has been amazing.

Table debate about the first 4-5 hours of gameplay....No major spoilers, but does obviously describe play-through and types of tasks/missions.

I haven't been this excited for a Spider-Man game since Spider-Man 3. I was excited for Web of Shadows, but not as much. Amazing Spider-Man didn't get me in until I saw some actual gameplay and the Raimi suits towards release, and Amazing Spider-Man 2 I was optimistic but it didn't look as polished as the first (I thought the game was very fun but flawed).

This is how stoked I was for all Arkham games and games like Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and the first three Spider-Man movie games.

I think this one surpasses all those you mention for me. I wasn't really aware of the Arkham build up before release (primarily, because at the time I still only had a PS2 and so the PS3 releases were off my radar) until I got a PS3 so I could play Batman A:A but now I have a PS4 ahead of the Spider-Man game, I am so excited.

Yeah, I’m more excited for this one than I was for the others mentioned.

Honestly, I don't think I've ever been this excited for a video game period. Let alone a Spider-Man game.

Usually I have a pretty good amount of patience and being able to temper my emotions but good lord this game is putting those to the test. Since April when the release date was announced up until about a week ago or so I was doing just fine. But now that we've only got a couple of weeks to go, all my patience has just about gone out the window. The days are dragging by and I feel like I need some assistance to get thru this lol.

This is probably the most excited I've been for a game since Spider-Man 2. I don't play many games lol. But that one from the second I heard you could free roam throughout all of New York it set my hype meters off the chain and lived up to my expectations and more. Since then I don't think any of the next gen games really took advantage of the technology for the free roaming but for this one it really looks like it's finally doing it with the time and resources behind it. Looks like there's so much to do and so many little touches everywhere, I'm stoked.

After the comics, this looks like it could be the greatest and most satisfying incarnation we've ever had of Spidey across all mediums.

They needed permission to use that for a specific purpose?
Maybe that is why DC Comics decided to make their own cities instead of using existing ones.

yeah, it must be a licensing thing. sucker punch got permission from the city to use the whole building once and after that, it's still in the game, you just can't go there anymore.

as for DC comics using their own cities; i doubt it's because of this, since Marvel does the opposite

If you want an appetizer for Spidey, play Insomniac's Sunset Overdrive on XB1 if you can and still haven't. Such a great traversal system mixed with crazy combat and shooting. The city is beautiful and there are a lot of crazy missions. This gen's most fun game until Spider-Man lol

At this point, not sure of the music scoring, but I plan to turn down volume in the first few moments and accompany it all to Elfman's intro piece from SM1 for the best of all worlds.

One thing I hope, is included or maybe considered is first person p.o.v when climbing up or down the side of a building, okay the vertigo inducement would be hard to take but the thrill factor of being that high up but being a 'living, breathing' experience would be awesome.

I recall an interview where they mentioned they had to block it off after that one mission as part of their licensing agreement. The people responsible for licensing out the space needle likeness were apparently "worried" the game would encourage people to climb around at the top of the space needle.

I'm surprised people on here didn't know that licensing buildings is very common in media. Just like a persons likeness you have to license buildings too. I mean if you had a nice tower in NYC you'd want all control over where it appears in and how it's used. Imagine someone using your tower and blowing it up as part of a game.

You know, I really hope that Reddit post was bogus and that we'll actually get the Symbiote suit in the game. Didn't they say there's a reason Spidey has the white Spider emblem in the game? I would love if he'd get the Symbiot toward the end of the game, which of course icreases his strength and allows him to defeat his enemies.

The sequel could focus on Spidey in the suit, until he eventually realizes it's sentient and gets rid of it halfway through the game. Then he'd get stalked by a shadowy figure, which will be revealed to be Venom.

I realize you weren't replying to me however I wish I could play Sunset. I don't have an X Box though. I've watched videos on the game and it looks great. I can see how or why Insomniac was approached to handle Spider-Man--if Sunset is any indicator both the traversal and combat are right up their alley.

The suit leak was most definitely fake because the user claimed the white spider suit has a "slow down time" functionality whereas we already know it has a focus boost one. Well... that or they swapped the powers out last minute?

Symbiote suit is also (kind of, unofficially) confirmed to not be in the game. It makes sense that it's not, I mean, why would they design themselves into a corner with a symbiote suit design when it's obvious they want to do a sequel about the topic. We might get the back in black suit though so there's that?

I was just curious, has anyone else seen the graphical downgrade complaints that have been surfacing around the Internet recently?

The above video I posted a little back covers it, (post number 754) but of the four gents at the table, the guy (if you watch it) at the far right is the gent who has play tested it (the other three are straight dye gamers but not particularly knowledgeable or avid Spider-Man fans) and he covers that but indicates it's all false 'hyperbole' in the sense of trying to look for bad things or errors, his general view and conclusion is...

'Be very excited'.

From what I can see, there is definitely a difference in the images that are being posted and compared however I don't agree there is a downgrade. It appears to me that Insomniac has made some contextual changes and the changes made are in line with normal game development where things are being moved around and/or changed or deleted to either fit timelines, story decisions or even to help improve performance. I don't get any vibes this is a Ubisoft situation. And I think the people that are making these complaints are just being overly sensitive. I was just curious about the opinions of other posters on here regarding the topic.

Yes, but it looks like ordinary optimization to me. There is a lot of footage that looks identical or better than the trailers from 2016-17. Seems a bit more stylized too.

Anyone else pick up the prequel novel yesterday by David Liss? I raced over to my local bookstore an hour before close and snagged a copy. So far, it’s quite enjoyable. It kind of started off a little “fan-fictiony” in tone but, I’d recommend grabbing a copy...I think it’ll definitely translate into the gameplay experience.

I’m thinking there’s little easter eggs eluding to what might transpire in the game...I hope!

The Lizard gets a brief nod after being book cased between other villains confirmed for the game...I hope he rears his ugly head in this game!

Also, in regards to the “big bad”...

I think Octavius will be the big bad...I haven’t finished the novel yet but, whenever they refer to Perer’s boss, they are very secretive in naming who he works for but, there are little bits and pieces that remind me of Otto. Unless he works for Tony Stark but...doesn’t sound like it from the “humble” description.

Just a guess.

Yeah, if I had an Xbox One I'd definitely be playing that, looks like a lot energetic fun.

Agreed.

Yeah, more and more adaptations take the Otto as Peter's mentor idea and push it far which I think is a great fit and adds to their dynamic as hero/villain. It's great cause Otto is already a mirror of Peter and like in SM2 where they use that and show Otto having the life Peter aspires for, it makes it that more tragic when it all falls down. I think using that in a way in this game will add some great stuff.

I have a guess as to what may happen. It seems like a few of the villains have problems with Norman Osborn as per their bios on the Playstation site, and it seems like the mastermind has problems with Osborn as well. I think Norman might have screwed Otto out of something in the past and Otto wants to make a play for revenge or may even think his crusade against the corruption of Norman Osborn is a righteous one and Spidey is undoubtedly in the middle of that and will have to save Norman Osborn despite him sending Silver Sable and her Wild Pack after him.

Oh man, the videos don't do it the justice it deserves. There is a relatively long learning curve depending on how skilled you are, no button-mashing, it's all skill based and it controls so well. Gameplay, in traversal-combat-battles, expands as you progress through the story, the city's geometry is built in a way that you can never touch the ground if you get good. It's also like a living comic book with its colours and onomatopeia all over the screen. It's such an underrated gem, probably because XB1 wasn't very popular when it came out.

...I guess you can tell why I'm so excited that we are getting an Insomniac Spider-Man game. And don't even get me started on Ratchet! Such a great series.
