Playstation Spider-Man (PS4) - Part 3

So after 44 reviews game is at a 88 on Metacritic my guess was 92 hope it can get up to a 90 still great score.

Easy alins or old gametrailers if you will gave it a 9.5 and so far worst review I have seen was a few 7/10.

Just a heads up for anyone who doesn't want to be spoiled. One of the reviews let a little spoiler slip regarding the identity of the mystery main villain. It said
Peter is a new graduate working for the ambitious and inspiring Dr. Otto Octavius

Any one watch the DF video yet? I want to watch it but not if spoilers.

These reviews are glorious!!!!! friday is too far!! we finally have the definitive Spider-Man experience upon us guys!

So looking at insomniac they have done 25 video games right now its 88 score is tied with ratchet and clank ps2 for 5th best reviewed game they have made there 4th best is ratchet and clank tools of destruction 89, 3erd is going commando 90, 2nd is Spyro year of the dragon 91 and first is ratchet and clank up your arsenal at a 91. With 60 reviews in at this point I dont see it changing much best case now a 90 worst I think a 86 and of course there is always a chance that insomniac can improve on the parts people dont like in a sequel and do even better than. So good to see a spiderman with good/great reviews again after all these years.

I’m most happy and surprised to hear how really strong the story and characterization is.

They didn’t just put their effort into a good gameplay experience but also a great Spidey narrative that could stand on its own.

Cool, the highest reviewed Spider-Man game ever.

After you said this I went back and looked at some reviews for past spiderman games and I am surprised that spiderman 2 only got a 80 on Metacritic would have thought it got higher.

That game has issues hindering it from being one of the greats, like every thug blocking your attacks and dodging your webs.

That is true when I went back and played it for the first time in years a few months ago that bothered me a lot just with all the like praise it got back when it came out I would have thought its reviews where better than just a 8/10 average would have though it was more like a 8.5 or 9/10.

About the DF video have not watched it but I did find this summary of it.

- Final game has identical texture resolution to the E3 demo. The Spiderman suit material changed (E3 suit was glossy). An artistic change, not technical.

- Per-pixel motion blur. Best implementation they've seen to date. Adjustable in-game.

- No checkerboard rendering on PS4 Pro, uses temporal injection technique used in Ratchet and Clank.

- Adaptive resolution on PS4 Pro. Ranges from 3456x1944 to 2560x1368. Hitting that low point is "extremely rare". Average resolution is 2816x1584. Upgrade from E3 demo which was 1440p.

- Base PS4 also uses adaptive resolution. Most of the time it's 1080p but can hit 900p.

- Building reflections blend between four cube maps depending on height.

- Missing puddles not due to performance issues. Artistic change. Reflection cube map changed from the one used in E3 demo. DF hypothesizes it would have been difficult to re-adjust puddle placement taking the change into account.

- Puddle reflections work the same as they do in the E3 demo.

- Uses volumetric lighting with great shadow quality and ambient occlusion.

- Cars use different types (incandescent, LED) and colors of headlights. Attention to detail overall is pretty nuts.

- Traffic and pedestrian density appears higher in the final game.

- Slight shadow differences in the final game vs the E3 demo. Looks more realistic in the final game. Overall more lighting/artistic differences.

- Texture detail, building interior detail, reflections, and lighting are better in certain scenes in the final game vs. the E3 demo.

- Runs at solid, stable 30fps on both PS4 and PS4 Pro "99% of the time". A dropped frame or two can happen. Motion blur adds to the smooth experience.

- Some scenes require loading. Relatively quick (< 10 seconds).

Some of the reviews are good, probably have a high 80's close to 90's in the end.

speaking of graphics, if i see one more damn video talking about a downgrade im gonna flip! So annoying. the game looks glorious!!!!

One of my favorite things about the reviews is they seem to be unanimous regarding the praise for the story and characterizations. Seems that is one of the strong points of the game.

Thats very important! it makes it different than being any old cash grab free roaming Spider-man thats shot out every year

I just saw a really cool reference to Spider-Man 2, the movie not the game, in one of the review vids. I wonder if there will be any other nods like that to movies or the cartoons in the game.

Loving these reviews. So happy the story and characterizations are getting so much praise.

Spidey stopping a speeding train the same way he did in SM-2. Go to 10:34 mark on the video to see it;

Ahhh yes, i just watched this an hour ago and must have missed that part. so awesome!

So at a 87 now after 78 reviews so yeah not going to get to a 90 but what ever still very solid. One review gave it a 60 that must have knocked it down from 88 to 87. There are 12 work in progress reviews and reading the description of them 1 sounds like it could be like a 7/10 type of review and 1 sounds like maybe it could be a 8/10 the other ones sound like some where between 8.5 and 9. So yeah most likely has 1 more ok score comming soon. That would get it to 90 reviews in to and that would mean not many left after.
