Far From Home Spider-Man Sequel General Discussion and Speculation

Good point, but I would greatly prefer Kraven as the main antagonist of the third film.

If they don't do the S6 next movie, I could see Kraven being the villain next time. But I have a strong suspicion the S6 is coming next film. I still could see them using Kraven in that movie as well, but likely Kraven would not be the main villain if they do that.

Yeah, which would be fine and all, but again I need a film with Kraven hunting Spidey down. They can even use parts of Kraven's Last Hunt, like Kraven burying Spidey alive. Obviously the darker parts like Kraven's suicide wouldn't be used.

The timeline issue doesn't start with Homecoming, but the "8 Years Later" is just the most obvious one.

Iron Man 2 takes place 6 months after IM1. The Avengers is noted to take place about 1 year later, 2012. So...

Iron Man = late 2010
Iron Man 2 / Thor / The Incredible Hulk = 2011
The Avengers = 2012
Civil War = 2016
Spider-Man: Homecoming = 2016
The Avengers: Infinity War = 2018

Civil War: Tony Stark revealed himself as Iron Man 8 years prior, per Vision. But that happened in 2010, so it should have been 6 years, not 8. Unless Iron Man 1 now takes place in 2008 again?

Spider-Man: Homecoming takes place in 2016, two months after Civil War. So it cannot be 8 years after The Avengers (2012), because that would place it in 2020, 2 years after Infinity War (2018) which would be impossible.
Regarding the Civil War/Iron Man goof... that goof is at least understandable as to where it came from because chances are the writers simply looked at the year that IM hit theaters (which was, in fact, 8 years prior at that time) and went with that without really thinking that IM did not necessarily take place the year it came out. So it was a minor writer's goof.

But Spider-Man: Homecoming's big ass "8 years later" on screen.... much more annoying (and I'm glad the Russos at least have said it was a mistake). They should have just done something more ambiguous like "Present Day"

I guess its too soon to take another stab at GG but they really do need to give us a great Goblin by Spidey3. Id go with a physical transformation of some kind, though nothing as monstrous as the ultimate version. Too bad Dafoe isnt 20 years younger. Casting ?

Will they tease GG in Spidey2? Id say probably. I do think they should just omit harry completely. That character has been permanently been run into the ground at this point imo.

And i have to say that im disappointed that mysterio is the only new baddie in this one. He doesnt even make my top ten spidey villains. Id be shocked if his look/costume wasnt completely reimagined.

Didn't they say they wanted like 5-6 Spider-Man movies. They don't need to rush the S6. I get 6 villains for Spider-Man would be crazy for him, but they can do that in the 4th or 5th.

They want to do more than three films, but the MCU is very much trilogy based. I guarantee you the first three Spidey films are designed to have on cohesive story arc following his high school years and end with his graduation. They've already started setting up the Sinister Six, which is the biggest threat they can really do without repeating Norman or Venom and with it definitely too soon for Morlun. I don't see them dropping that and then picking it up again in a second trilogy.

I hope we never see Morlun. He is garbage.

Presuming most of the conflict with Mysterio takes place in Europe/London, what locations would you guys want for action scenes?

Trying to stuff six villains into Spider-Man 3.3 would be a huge mistake. Only the Vulture, Shocker and Mysterio will have been established. You can't pack in Gargan becoming the Scorpion, Kraven hunting Spider-Man, a third villain's origin and first conflict with Spidey AND a rematch with everyone into the three act structure. It would be a pile of crap.

I have a feeling a museum will be used as one. Maybe the British Museum?

Wasn't that already used in Black Panther?

Was that the same one? I'm not sure. I just think Mysterio could be stealing ancient artifacts or something like that. We're not sure why it'll be a global thing

Edit: It was a different one

Maybe they will do three Spider-Man films introducing a main villain in each: Vulture, Mysterio, and maybe Kraven for the third. We have Shocker and Scorpion introduced as smaller side villains throughout the series. Then we can have a fourth Spider-Man film featuring the Sinister Six that can introduce one new villain for that film.

Just a thought.

I'd be happy if Scorpion could be used as one of the main villains in one of the sequels. He's my favorite, behind Dr. Octopus...

If they incorporate Jameson as a character, with the spider slayers in the mix, I would be happy with Scorpion being the main baddie.

You seriously underestimate the capabilities of a screenwriter. Sometimes I feel like people don't realize that most movies introduce their ENTIRE CAST in the course of one film. Not all the members of the Six need to have elaborate backstories and an in depth focus in a previous film. It is entirely possible to do Sinister Six in the third film and do it well, given the right build-up in this film.

This is exactly what I want and how I picture it. And it wouldn’t take long if they released a Spidey film every 2 years.

I'd personally do a trilogy followed by an 'event' film dubbed Spider-Man vs. The Sinister Six, but having Sinister Six in the third film is just as likely given the MCU's track record of having the third film in a series be 'bigger' (Civil War for Cap, Infinity War for Avengers 3, etc.)

CW stood out as unusual to me though. I wouldn’t expect films stacked with characters in your average 3rd film. Avengers is different because it’s intended to be an event movie every time and wants to be as big as possible. I can’t picture the Homecoming series to be ready for the Sinister 6 after this film next year. With 2 more films that does feel possible to me though.

I agree...this where the best writers is a must; plus having experience producers/directors who has the key ability get writers to fully embrace their visions & objective they wish to accomplish with the film, while giving them the room & flexibility the need; but, hold film to those objectives & vision.

However, on the flip side...this is why Sony want to establish these villainous characters in spinoff films, in order not to bog a film down with origin, backstories, personality traits, motivations, and some number of those combinations.

The fact that Fiege/Marvel strongly appear to be moving in that direction of the S6...minus villain spinoffs, coupled with the indefinite delay of Silver & Black, seem to suggest, imo, that Fiege/Marvel & Sony has reach some unpublicized agreement, in some form, to do one particular thing that Sony strongly desired to do for a number of years....and that the S6. We shall see.

OK, you two, how do you explain formerly well-regarded superhero series fizzling once they stuffed in more than two villains? Spider-Man 3, Dark Knight Rises... even Amazing Spider-Man was much better regarded than its overstuffed sequel. Saying something that hasn't worked before will work with 100% certainty because of a good screenwriter is severe overconfidence.
The script for Homecoming wasn't great, and the best-written part was Toomes. To even have a chance of doing what you two are so certain of would require firing their existing writers for someone with a completely different set of strengths.

I thought the script for Homecoming was great. I don't see any issues with it.
