The Problem = Jeff Robinov

jeff-robinov.jpg

Jeff Robinov aka the former VP of Warner Bros who left after losing the head promotion to Tsujihara due in part for cock blocking WB from building their "Justice League" because of his failed Green Lantern movie.

Now that Robinov is with Sony, he's cock blocking Marvel from building up a Cinematic Universe with Spider-Man.

Regardless, if Sony plans on REBOOTING Spider-Man anyway, might as well just have Marvel reboot him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

You guys have to understand Marvel makes 2 movies per year, WB makes 30 movies per year. They had Harry Potter, The Hobbit and The Dark Knight trilogy plus movies from Nolan, Affleck etc. They had other priorities. Now it's different... Seriously, try to not act like blind fanboys all the time.

So many rumours, leaks and E-Mails I wonder if this is all just all the different options the studio is thinking of. Must be because alot contradicts other "leaks" sites are reporting and official news.

Hopefully when the dust is settled we'll get some confromation on if Garfield got the sack or if the franchise is getting another reboot.

I suggest everyone on this site just run with official news untill we hear anything officiak otherwise.

Definitely a lot of leaks.

I'm betting at least one of them are true, though.

Here's what I'd do if I could add Spider-Man to the MCU in different scenarios.

Civil War -

Tony Stark and Steve Rogers both look to seize every asset they can, One of these is the new upcoming superhero Spider-Man, who's started making waves in New York. Stark approches him first and Spider-Man tells him he'll think about it.
We then have scenes with Spider-Man keeping tabs on what both Tony and Steve are doing and realises that the Registration act is wrong. He meets with Cap and tells him that he is very much in the right and wants to help. He then unveils his face to Cap only, and the very first time in the MCU. Cap trusts him and he fights alongside him.

Easter Eggs and Refs -

* Tony compiles a file on Spider-Man and we get hints of what he's already done. For example, petty criminals like "Shocker", multiple savings of innocent lives, robberies prevented etc
* Hint at Osborn Industries
* Upon meeting with Cap, Spidey says "I've been watching you guys from afar, for quite a while."
* End credits, or just the end of the movie, We see Spider-Man swing off to deal with a new threat.

Jessica Jones -

Spider-Man could be one of the superheroes that Jessica Jones helps out. Perhaps Spider-Man is having trouble finding evidence to take down the Kingpin. Jessica and Spider-Man get closer (friends, not lovers) he tells her about how he became a superhero, with flashbacks and simple lines of dialouge. There we go, in less than 10 minutes we'll have his origins retold for the purpose of another hero getting to know him.

Sony licenses the Spider-man film rights, it doesn't own them. Just like Fox licenses their X-men and FF4 film rights. If Sony owned them it wouldn't have to worry about the 5 year clause in the licensing agreement that mandates the making and theatrical release of a Spider-man film or the licensing lapses and the film rights revert back to Marvel.

Fine then, my terms weren't correct. But the point remains, Paramount never licensed those characters the way Sony & Fox have. So it still wasn't the same type of deal and thus has no bearing on what's going on here.

I would leave Spidey out of Civil War entirely. It's too late to make anything meaningful about it so you'd just be crowbaring him in there for the lulz. That's Fox's MO. MS is hopefully more thoughtful than that. CW isn't following the comic storyline anyway.

If he comes back, they should rest him until such time as he can be introduced properly, not just tossed in a cameo somewhere like a kid showing off a new toy.

Before DoFP, I'd have probably agreed with this entirely, but their Quicksilver reveal was so sublime that I consider it the gold standard for introducing a pre-existing hero.

If it could be done in a way as captivating and memorable as Quicksilver, then I'd be all for it, but otherwise, I agree. If it isn't done with the best of intentions, then don't do it at all.

BAD April 18, 2014:
Spider-Man Will Never Cross Over With Other Studios, Says Avi Arad

SCOOP: A MEETING OF THE MINDS TO OCCUR BETWEEN MARVEL & SONY EARLY NEXT YEAR
Kevin Feige is very adamant about one thing: He wants Avi Arad out
JOSH JOHNSON said:
Kevin Feige is very adamant about one thing: He wants Avi Arad out and Marvel seems to be backing him on this. Should this deal happen, Arad will be nowhere near the Spider-Man movies. However, Pascal and other Sony execs feel he’s a crucial part of the previous Spidey films and feel he needs to stick around.

Someone on Reddit claims to know a bit more about the meeting that's suppose to occur in January/February AS WELL AS A POTENTIAL SHORTLIST FOR ACTORS THAT MARVEL HAS IN MIND FOR PETER

No idea as to the authenticity of the claims, but this bit struck me as the most interesting.

Marvel has already begun development on the script, and has begun looking at potential directors for the Spider-Man reboot. Marvel will not be bringing Andrew Garfield onboard, but has talked to him separately about possibly joining Marvel for another role in a future film of theirs.

If it were to hold any truth then that would be pretty cool of Marvel to do so even if they are replacing him as Spidey. Anyone any ideas on what kind of role that could be if true?

His newest post:

So I got a little bit more details out of my Disney guy. Nothing is concrete yet, but I may know what villain Marvel wants for their first Spidey movie. The two being seriously considered are Mysterio and/or Shocker. Not clear on if it's both or just one, but I've been told Marvel is aiming to avoid any mistakes made in previous Spider-Man films, which I assume would include multiple villains, so I'm fairly sure they're deciding between one of the two. There's also talk of possibly bringing in Vincent D'Onofrio from their upcoming Daredevil show as Kingpin for the villain as well.
One more thing my source gave me is that one of the names he's heard being tossed around as a possible director is Sylvain White. However, there are dozens of other directors being looked at as well, so this could end up being meaningless.

I recommend caution and restraint when dwelling on these sorts of anonymous & unverified reports.

Sounds too good to be true!

Could very well be. I think with this farce that's going on with these leaks it's like there's something hitting the news every day and there could easily be a lot of BS and/or wishful thinking ending up in these reports. It would make an easy target for someone to start trolling.

Though as someone who's a bit of a Shocker fan I could just imagine what they could do with him in the MCU. Imagine a Shocker as bad ass as Crossbones in the Winter Soldier.

Yeah itd be really cool on Marvels part.Away to give a bone to Garfans

Hopefully, it's a Mysterio and Shocker, and not a Mysterio or Shocker.

The news may very well be too good to be true, as well.

I really like the sound of that. Tying Spidey to the Defenders franchise would be a great move in my opinion. Would love to see Kingpin get involved as an adversary to not only Spidey but for Norman Osborn as we'll. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Drew Goddard be involved in some way considering he is close with Whedon and was all set to tackle Daredevil.

A Spiderman movie with Defenders as a Supporting cast would be awesome!Make it happen Marvel!

Some unknown website, some unknown reddit user... Seriously guys this is 2014 and not 2003 or so.

We're discussing and speculating. We never said we believed him.

Vincent D'Onofrio as the big bad would bring some much needed gravitas to a Spider-Man film. Imagine Spidey having to consult with DD.

But would Wilson Fisk have some kind of rivalry with Jonah Jameson like in the animated series?
