Now by "creative control," what do they mean?

Does Marvel pick the talent and the script, and then Sony actually produces the movie? Or does Marvel handle the entirety of production and Sony simply distributes?

No idea. This is the question I've asked. If it's the latter option you've suggested though, I don't know how Marvel can possibly get a Spider-Man movie out into theatres with their already full Phase 3 schedule.

Sony helps finance 40% of the film and distributes it. Marvel takes care of the rest.

God, Avi Arad right now if all this is true :funny:.

Pretty much my reaction to Arad if he's fired.

his old heart would just snap in half

he truly believes that he is giving the people what they want, when in reality, he is the one that everyone wants out.

I sure hope they don't postpone one of their Phase 3 films like Inhumans or Captain Marvel.

They won't. Inhumans is already being set up, and Captain Marvel got a very positive reaction. Delaying their first female led film for the sixth Spidey film (overall) would be a nightmare.

Not sure if this is legit or fanmade.

It would seem like the most sexist thing to do as well. Why the female of all the characters? Delaying Black Panther wouldn't be good either. The only one that wouldn't get that kind of criticism would be Dr Strange, but they're not going to delay that when it's already in pre production and Benedict Cumberbatch has already been cast.

I honestly wouldn't care if they delayed Inhumans for everyone's favourite Wallcrawler (It won't be the same as delaying Cpt Marvel or Black Panther). we're talking about Marvel's number one money maker; this is Spider-Man we're talking about! I don't care what movie they delay as long as it means Spidey being done right.

nothing in Phase 3 is being delayed for Spider-Man

they'll find an appropriate date somewhere.

The Russos were emailing Sony about directing a movie for them and they mentioned how directing IW was on their schedule.

Not true apparently:

"regardless of what happens with IW, we'd like to direct a movie for Sony with RDJ etc, etc"

The Russo's might be in place to direct IW if (IF) Joss steps back. It's unlikely that Joss has made that decision already when last time he waited until Avengers 1 was done & released before deciding to do AoU.

Obviously not official. Why would Sony make a twitter page for a board meeting?

Indeed. I've speculated that Marvel & Sony combining resources could allow them to release a Spidey film in 2017/18 without bumping any of the other films.

Marvel are positioning the Inhumans for a prominent place in the MCU. They will effectively be the surrogates for Mutants. I don't think anything will be delayed.

I think if the 60/40 deal goes through, Marvel's creative control will cover director, story, casting, and production schedule. If Sony gets 40%, that means there's something in it for them (other than ponying up part of the budget and keeping distribution rights). I think Marvel will let Sony handle some aspects of post-production, like SPI contributing effects shots, final sound mixing and where the musical score will be recorded. Marvel Studios doesn't have a contract with the AFM, enabling them to outsource recording to London and Seattle. Sony, being a major film studio, does.
