Just skimming through some of the more prominent comments makes me wonder what else Pascal has been saying. That's some seriously awful stuff.

Yeah, Reddit is a bit of a cluster bomb with its layout. It's the reason why I've not really taken to it either.

Oh? I find Reddit's layout pretty logical.

4chan's layout, on the other hand...

Sylvain White? Really odd choice...
back before Joss signed onto the Avengers, I always thought his aesthetic and voice (witty, pop culturey, good balance of pathos and humor) would be perfect for a Spider-Man film.

I'm trying really hard not to get my hopes up but seeing Spidey in the MCU
would just be so damned cool.

Co-signed. I'm still holding out hope that he signs up for Infinity War, but if Marvel snags the rights to Spidey...he may very well get the chance to 'get it right'.

One thing I've said that seems to good to pass up if Marvel Studios does Spidey is bringing Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin to the big screen. So reading that really rosy rumor is nice, lol.

I think having an overarching threat of a villain like the Kingpin would be the way to go. What can Spidey do that really makes a difference with a guy like that out there? Supervillains being brought in is a logical extension in that conflict. It worked really well in The Spectacular Spider-Man with Tombstone funding places like Oscorp secretly to create supervillains to distract Spider-Man from his lower, profitable operations.

That'd be the way to do it, I think. It ties Spidey nicely to more of the street level side of the MCU, effectively giving that area its 'big boy' on the big screen already if they have plans to do any features with any of the Netflix characters. Because all the characters the MCU has had so far are really Avengers related and dealt with and will deal with with bigger things like Hydra and crazy space stuff. More of the New York crime scene hasn't really been explored yet.

@GG, @HarryOsborn.

ASM1 was set in 2012. Peter graduates in the summer of 2013, then there's the 1 year jump right after, making it the year 2014. Peter is in college, and the year is 2014.

No need for confusion really.

Apart from having to figure that out and maybe observing the weather, there weren't many indications towards the passage of time. They could have at least done a scene with the seasonal changes being shown (sort of like when Peter is at Gwen's grave).

It was certainly one of the glaring issues that conflicted with the overall sequencing of the film. A couple people that I went to watch the movie with were confused, at times.

Yes, there's most definitely some issues with continuity

But with what we've got so far, in terms of numbers, dates and dialogue, ASM1 being set in 2012 and ASM2 being set in 2014, is definite.

Didn't realize the Russo's were doing Avengers 3. I don't think that gives them any time to do a Spidey film until after that, when the rights will have expired unless Sony produces another film in between or gets an extension somehow.

They aren't. Nothing has been decided yet, and I don't think it will be be until next summer when Whedon has had time to think about it. Lets face it, if Whedon wants to do A3 then Marvel will let him. I could see the Russo's doing one part & Whedon doing the other.

I would leave Spidey out of Civil War entirely. It's too late to make anything meaningful about it so you'd just be crowbaring him in there for the lulz. That's Fox's MO. MS is hopefully more thoughtful than that. CW isn't following the comic storyline anyway.

If he comes back, they should rest him until such time as he can be introduced properly, not just tossed in a cameo somewhere like a kid showing off a new toy.

This. It's too late for Spidey in Civil War (bar maybe a cameo) good scripts take time and now there is no time, Markus/McFeely & the Russo's have pushed on developing a script with what they actually have available to them, shoehorning Spidey into that would harm the movie as a whole.

Marvel may have more than one version of the Civil War script though. One with Spidey included and one without. They could easily switch or do reshoots if Spidey comes into the MCU.

It would fit with accounts that they've been working on a solo Spider-man script. They'd have to have a plan worked out in case they do get the deal through.

I'm sure I remember reading that Marvel's strategy these days is to have the writers make a script that Marvel are happy, then when they want to make the film they put the writer and director together to rewrite it into the director's style. I think thats what they did with GotG.

I honestly, really feel like Spider-Man should join the MCU and Sony should work out a similar deal with marvel that Universal did with Hulk.

Partially since Sony doesn't have as much Marvel IP as Disney or Fox and that makes Spider-Man kind of lonely. Partially because Sony hasn't treated the franchise with as much care as they could have. Partially since the MCU could use Sandman, Mach and Shocker for Thunderbolts. If those three returned then Marvel will be able to use the entire Thunderbolts lineup except for Juggernaut (and Abomination could easily substitute for Juggs).

So there are three good reasons here. Imagine Daredevil and Luke Cage popping up in a Spider-Man movie, better scripts for Spider-Man and a Thunderbolts movie.

The downside is that if Sony decides to hold on to Spidey and do nothing with the MCU, Marvel will just cancel his comics.

That's not going to happen. Isn't Spider-Man one of the top-selling Marvel comics today? I know he's the most popular Marvel character in terms of merchandising, but those don't go hand-in-hand.

The Spidey summit in January in England does make sense, to coincide with pre-production on Captain America: Civil War. If the rumors are true, then all Sony and Marvel have to do is haggle over the small stuff before signing the deal.

I think this deal is more advanced than we might think. I don't think Marvel would be looking at certain actors for a new Peter/Spider-Man (or hammering out a storyline for a 2nd reboot) if they didn't think they could iron out a deal with Sony.

Anyone know the date of the summit?

someday in Jaunary BUT Sony is paralized now so... maybe later...

That may be true, but I think the meeting will happen sooner due to the hack. Sony needs some good publicity on their end right now.

If by sooner you mean right after the Holidays, then it would be cool to hear about it soon after.

Not going to happen. Spider-Man is Marvel's biggest seller. In November just gone ASM 9 was the months biggest seller. Add that to 1.3 billion in toys. If Spider-Man doesn't appear in Marvel movies Marvel will just shrug and carry on making a fortune off Spider-Man but no money off the movies (which is diminishing by the movie anyway).

The movie isn't coming out for over a year and a half, Ant-Man didn't have it's final script until a few months ago, and Iron Man never had a complete script during production. It's very likely Marvel will include Spider-Man. The registration act would provide multiple levels of conflict- Black Panther being the King of a sovereign nation would find conflict with registering, and the street level heroes like DD and the Netflix gang could be represented by Spidey (being their cinematic counterpart).

Yeah, not going to happen. Marvel makes a ton off of Spider-Man. Fantastic Four is getting cancelled because the brand just isn't very profitable.

Basically from Sony's point of view it will be can they save Spider-Man themselves (with quality film makers) or do they need a major kickstart for Spider-Man in the form of Marvel and then take a smaller chunk off a bigger pie.

If the deal falls through again I doubt the offer will be on the table for at least 5 years.
