Homecoming "Spider-Man Summit" Thread

The Marvel deal is appealing to people who want the character to interact with other heroes and villains. Plus with the state that Sony is in right now with this mess, plus their lack of direction at the moment, it may be best for Spidey to make his home elsewhere.

Fair enough, but personally speaking I'm more concerned with the producers, cast and film making talent than Spider-Man exchanging wise cracks with Tony Stark.

Who is trying to discredit Marvel? I said all their movies aren't great and that you could just as easily get Thor 2 level quality or IM level quality.

No all their movies aren't great, just like every studio in existence, but my point was Thor 2 and IM3 aren't considered nearly as bad as Sony's worst....I didn't like IM3, but I don't lose faith or undersell the impact and accomplishment of the studio because their overall record for making quality populace films is as good as anyone other then perhaps Pixar. That is the context from which I am making my point.

Well, having both won't hurt :yay:. Marvel simply has a better sense of direction than Sony at the moment. True, it's not all diamonds, but the good outweighs the bad by a strong margin.

I agree with you on that. I liked the ASM movies more than most people, but I just don't see Sony having a good plan for the character. The only MCU movies that I don't like are IM2, IM3 and TDW. I haven't seen TIH so I can't judge. Great avvy by the way, I LOVE My Bloody Valentine.

Awesome. You are the fourth or fifth person to mention it to me since I debuted it so I guess I won't change it now.

Saw them at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. Loudest, greatest show I've been to so far. Loveless is an unimpeachable classic and will never be topped, but Isn't Anything and m b v are awesome too. I'm a huge Cocteau Twins fan as well.

Anyway, what's your take on the likelihood of the deal? I'd say we're within spitting distance of it at least.

I wish I could've seen them live. Got into them about a decade ago after picking up a Kevin Shields remix of Primal Scream's cover of Darklands by J&MC. Loveless is unbelievable, a constant for me.

That's how I'd put it. I guess I'm more hopeful then optimistic at this point..

That's fair. But there's more evidence for the deal than against it, don't you think?

I think so, my only question is the details. The idea of Sony having input on creative decisions would not excite me in the least, even if it meant having Spidey in the MCU. I'd also be concerned if a deal were made and Arad were involved somehow, although some reports I read said Feige did want him out so...cautiously optimistic.

From Reddit

I was recently able to get some juicy details out of a long-time friend, who also happens to be a trusted source of mine, that Marvel and Sony, nothing but a few days ago, held what he described as a "mini-meeting" that only lasted about 40 minutes, where they went over the final kinks of a deal they looked too close to incorporate Spider-Man into the MCU.
Nothing much was really spoken about as the meeting neared an end, this is because Sony and Marvel had apparently ALREADY come to terms on an agreement and were simply tending to other smaller commodities.
To make a long story short, Marvel is now at liberty to have Spidey in any of their films, which will reportedly start with a cameo appearance in Cap 3 and/or an after-credits scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which will be filmed as soon as the deal is officially announced, if they decide to go that route.
He has also told me that the two companies are trying to keep this under wraps as best as possible just until after next month's Spidey Summit, which is when they will go public with this info.
Names were tossed around in the meeting as to who will play the beloved hero in tights, but Logan Lerman is currently the heavy favourite.
Take with a pinch of salt but bear in mind this is the same guy who broke a lot spoilers months before the release of ASM including the Spider-Man blood as a cure.

Only because every "source" seems to be agreeing that Spidey is coming home.

Wouldn't 'staying over with friends' be a better analogy than 'coming home' seeing as Sony would still own the rights.

Man i really hope so, I've been following the news over the past few days and I just hope Spidey does in fact go back to Marvel.

I have enjoyed every spidey film so far but I just feel deflated with Sony's plans now. Ever since they announced that TASM3 would be pushed back two years in favour of a Sinister six movie.

And we have another source in the other thread saying it will be until CW until we get even a cameo. So someone is clearly lying, hypothesizing, or getting the wrong information.

I hope this rumour turns out to be true, and it would be great if Spidey is in an after-credits scene in A:AOU. But then, what about Ant-Man? Does he not get any promotion from that film since he's the next Marvel film coming out?

From the sounds of it though, the summit isn't so much to discuss matters on Spidey, but more of an official announcement, which kind of makes it not actually a summit.

I would say the trailer in front of the film will be promotion, perhaps even a clip or something as well

It definitely sounds to me like Spidey will be cameo-ing in Civil War or Civil War after-credits stinger at the very least.

But the best part about this (potential) deal, is that Sony would still act as distributor for Spider-Man films. Why is this good news? Because they already have 11/11/16 marked for the planned Sinister Six film and most likely have tentative release dates in mind for the ASM3 and Venom.

While those films will be dead, the release dates they occupy will not be, and can be re-purposed for new Marvel Studios Spider-Man films!

And then we could get him in IW.:hubba

Meh, If it's only for cameos I'm not really happy :csad:.
I want MARVEL's full control and Avi Arad out!:o

EDIT: And I don't want Sony's Spider-man spinoffs :(!

It's not that Marvel can only get him for cameos and that's it. They would just have him in time for a cameo for Civil War and then they can make him movies that go into the MCU.

Oh, ok. thank you GR8GODZILLAGO.
I guess we'll have to "wait and see".

Having Spider-Man for 'phase 3' would be awesome, climaxing with IW.
Also there would be nothing stopping Spider-Man showing up (cameo) for the Netflix TV shows (if Sony give the go ahead).
Look at the ratings spike Arrow got when Flash showed up. How many people would tune in to see Spider-Man in an episode of Daredevil.

 But since they're all released on the same day on Netflix, then if you're tuning in for the series already, you're going to be tuning in for that Spider-Man episode anyway.
