Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

IGN was high doing the review, IMO. I didn't even read the review after I saw the grade because all they do is compare it to other Spidey/movie games

I don't know, there were some legitimate complaints in the review. The graphical issues really shouldn't be there in this day and age. Activision has also always had issues making the gameplay of the SM games diverse, and including parts of Peter's life...in fact they are correct that SM2 did this the best. I was hoping they would fix that here also...but it's no biggie.

The game looks fun, and at least it isn't Iron-Man. :p

Actually they have logical and well written reasons for the grade. I read the whole review and he doesn't just compare the games...although it is fair to compare them.

I disagree.
reading the review, he talks a lot about the repetitiveness, but seemed to have a lot of fun playing it. you'd think he would give a 7, atleast.

IGN make completely fair statements in their review. You can make the fighting LOOK cool, which is what they did, but it still resorts to little else than button mashing. They just tried to polish up the same game yet again, giving fans what they want with the "ZOMG Wolvenom!" effect.

Yep, its a shame I know. That launch trailer actually made me think they could have something special on their hands this time around, they have some neat ideas definately, but they just haven't changed the core gameplay as much as they emphasized.

(Oh and for the record, Electro bonding to a symbiote doesn't mae any sense...)

Yep... there goes the classic lazyness that made me stop buying comics yet again. "Uh... that doesn't work... okay we'll just ignore Spider-sense/symbiote weaknesses/the fact he's dead to get it to work."

Biggest disappointment of 2008 confirmed? If you would have asked me a week ago what my most anticpated title this holiday season was this would have been it. But after checking on the IGN review, I think I'll pass (maybe just rent or wait for a price drop). Fable II seems like a much better option at this point.

Repetitive gameplay missions are the worst. I hate it when there are basically only escort missions and defeat a certain number of enemies missions... and that sounds like the vast majority of this game.

So yeah, hugely disappointed, but at least my stores didn't get it in yesterday, or I would have already had it not knowing how mediocre it seems to really be.

I may still buy it, since I'm just a sucker for a true Spider-Man experience..we'll see how funds sit at the end of the month.

I absolutely loved the first two games, and three was horrible. I didn't even bother with ForF and I'm still undecided here.

Looks like combining Spider-Man 2's webslinging and mission structure with Web of Shadow's combat would give you the perfect Spider-Man experience...

but it looks like we will never get Spider-man 2's webslinging back...and that pisses me off

STOP WATERING DOWN THE WEBSLINGING FOR THE KIDS ACTIVISION!!!

Though appearantly the webslinging in this game is really fun.

I actually want to hear from someone who has the game and see what they have to say about the IGN review. Because i can go without great graphics and i can make it through repetativeness if the game and combat is really fun. The devil may cry games are nothing but combat from room to room...and i friggen LOVE those games! so depending one the type of repetativeness, I might still be buying this one since it appears to be fun with just fighting and webslinging (which is much of what i want from a spiderman game).

I agree with you. I would rather hear from someone here who has played the game. Reviews are great, but critics are in many cases swayed by personal standards and don't always do true justice to what a game is like.

So, someone here who has it...let us know what you think.

Oh yeah, I definately want to hear what others have to say as well. There have been a few times in the past (though, not many) where I've disagreed wholeheartedly with an IGN review. But this game seems like The Incredible Hulk to me... free roaming with pretty awesome moves and controls, but total lack of polish everywhere else bringing it to mediocrity.

Ok...i just watched 2 videos on IGN:

The Review video actually made the game look fun as hell and the things he was whining about i think i would actually find fun or be able to overlook since i'm such a Spidey/Action game freak.

Then comes the Webslinging video...seriously, the guy who is webslinging sucks ass so it really doesn't showcase anything other than...well...how much the guy sucks at webslinging.

So yeah...I'm still up in the air about this game...some one buy it and tell us about it already! I've heard nothing but good things from other reviews and people that have it on GameFAQS.com (and those psychos are usually the first to tear a game to shreds if it isn't amazing).

I'll pick it up after work and write a review on what I've played so far. I never listen to critics.

Hey, so far the reviews are mixed - the critics either hated it or loved it - Yahoo and another site gave it 80+

Well, electricity can burn you too. I think when it runs through a symbiote, it should be hurt. In USM didn't Peter get it off with electricity? But in 616 of course, it only tickled Venom when he beat Electro.
