The Avengers Spidey in the Avengers?

Apparently The Black Widow will get her web shooters is because spidey will make them for her.And The Avengers will help spidey take on The Sinister Six in his movie...

God I hope that isn't true.

Don't worry it isn't. But Loki's secret army is Lizard's army of lizard men.

NO SPIDER-MAN in the Avengers; at least NOT int he MAIN film.

I'm sure most of you guys didn't believe this rumor in the 1st place like the old Captain America TFA rumor about Namor appearing.

For those that don't know, I posted this back on December 6th:

http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?p=22005935&highlight=#post22005935

Spoke to the same person today and said person said there were no signs of Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield, or even Tobey Maguire in the film, none whatsoever.

Recap of what I know 100% (like I said in my post history, feel free to bookmark this when you finally see the film):

- Movie begins with prologue narrated by a female S.H.I.E.L.D. agent (Maria Hill or Sharon Carter perhaps) weaving together all the Marvel Universe films

- Film shows how S.H.I.E.L.D. discovers Captain America’s frozen body, along with the Cosmic Cube

- Captain America is literally the 1st Avenger recruited (which follows the Ultimates animated film’s storyline)

- Hulk is the last Avenger on S.H.I.E.L.D.’s radar

- Iron Man gets into fights with everyone including a fight with Captain America (a little homage to Civil War)

- There is a big and lengthy 3-man super battle.

- Yes comic book fans, we will see Thor vs Hulk – Merry Christmas!

- The “aliens” are described like beast warriors although the CG’s weren’t finished, but they growl and are wearing masks including “metallic and robotic-like armor”

- There are also “giant snake-like creatures” - yes with an “s” as in more than 1 giant snake-like creature

- Pre-screened ending did not reveal any cameo i.e. secret villain; if there is indeed some sort of secret cameo, unless a new ending has been shot, it will be in the after credits / post-credits scene (which was not shown)

- Rough cut of the movie ran close to about 2 and ½ hours (and that was without any post-credit scenes)

** Follow up **

- Aliens are not called Redacted or Shi’ar.

- No Red Skull in the film; he would have to be in a post credit scene if he’s in the movie at all

- No Thanos in the film; he would have to be in a post credit scene if he’s in the movie at all

- No Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire in the film; any of them would have to be in a post credit scene if they're in the movie at all

That all sounds believable. 3 man super battle would be cap Thor and iron man. Guess thanos is after credits

Well after Joss's response on Twitter to the question - I guess that's one rumour crushed into miserably tiny pieces!

His answer was pretty straight forward.

C'mon Marc .... it was subliminal. Actually if you record yourself reciting what Whedon said and then play it backwords, it's proof Spidey is in the film! :awesome:

Joss incorporates jokes and sarcastic comments into his answers a lot of times. I'm not going to argue about this because god-knows the News/Speculation thread is choking on the matter, but as marc said - Joss was pretty clear about it, it didn't seem like there was a sneaky smile behind the screen.

But hey, if that's how you interpret it - that's fine with me.

Well , I'm not disappointed. It would of been cool to see a cameo but doesn't affect the overall film.

A genuine cameo would have been a tedious and frustrating tease. It just would have made me go "Wow Sony, it's so BIG of you to arrange a deal with Marvel where they get to use their own character to promote your shameless reboot, it's just a shame you aren't big enough to let them use the freaking character authentically as part of the MCU!"

But then, that's just me and who cares what I think?

I've been more or less off the Hype for a few weeks, so I'm just playing catch up this morning.

Don't know about Spidey. So many ways to do it, with varying degrees of obviousness. Can't say Sony would be opposed to anything that only promotes their new movie. Don't forget, Marvel has a dog in that fight, too. If there's an organic way to include or make reference to him (that Joss likes). Then I don't see anything holding that back, legally. It could be something that gets filmed and works on its own, but still ends up on the cutting room floor.

No, legally they can't use it, unless Sony agree, which they are hardly likely to do with one of their biggest cinematic competitors. Marvel has a vested interest in the Spider-Man movie but Sony has no vested interested in the Avengers movie.

Marvel *definitely* has a vested interest in seeing TASM succeed (remember, folks: Marvel makes money off all those "enemy" Fox and Sony projects as well), but after November 2011, I'm not so sure I'd agree that Sony *doesn't* have a vested interest in Avengers.

Sony sold the Spidey merch rights to Marvel, right? So if they're not getting paid for all the toy lines, lunchboxes, etc. that inevitably accompany TASM, where are they going to make any money on this movie beyond the basic ticket sales?

Definitely agree. It is clear that Spider-Man will not be in The Avengers, that is a dead issue. However, people need to get over saying that it categorically cannot happen in the future. There absolutely was a new transaction that took place in Nov 2011 between Marvel/Disney and Sony, so we can say that the relationship between the companies has been altered with regard to SM. I have always been of the opinion that the more likely scenario is that the events of The Avengers may be referenced in some way in TASM. I don't think it is probable but way more possible and more fitting story-wise to go that direction.

When Joss shoots the rumor down, that's that.

It’s Over Johnny! It's OVER!

I know Spider-man will not be in the Avengers. I just wanted to make that clear but I still wonder if they're gonna still try to tie him into the MCU. They're gonna tell the story of Peters parents in the next movie. And one of the Red Skulls are responsible for there deaths. So there could be a reference/connection between the Captain america films and the Spider-man Reboot.

Wikipedia
"The first two Red Skulls are Nazi agents and the third is a Soviet agent. The Red Skull was first introduced in Captain America Comics #1 in 1941. The first Red Skull (George Maxon) to appear in comics was an American industrialist turned Nazi saboteur. Maxon turned out to be an agent of the true Red Skull (Johann Schmidt), considered (according to S.H.I.E.L.D.) as one of the greatest threats to humanity,[1] and a long-time archenemy of Captain America.[2] The third Red Skull (Albert Malik) is best known for causing the deaths of the parents of Peter Parker, and thus orphaning the boy who would become Spider-Man. The Red Skull was ranked number 21 on Wizard Magazine's Top 100 Greatest Villains Ever list and was also ranked as IGN's 14th Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time.[3]"

I doubt TASM is going to reference Red Skull at all. Scuttlebutt around the trailers (the new one in just a few hours might tell us more) is that someone at Oscorp is responsible for the Parkers' murders. Norman Osborn would be the safest bet, but so far, there's no sign that he's in this movie (although having Oscorp without Norm would be a complete "say whaaaaaa.....?).

this movie is kindda lame. i mean we got 6 superheroes and only 1 (lame) villain? 6 vs 1 :o
they should incorporate more villains inside like x-men and do the final battle like x-men the last stand!

They don't own the rights to the franchise, so no, he's not going to be involved, or referenced, or anything in this movie.

One villain, with an ARMY! But the Avengers have a Hulk so....

Can't believe I'm about to use this for the second time today, but...

Spider-Man wants to join The Avengers

The-Avengers-Amazing-Spider-Man-Trailer-Discussion.jpg

Andrew Garfield on His Tony Nod, The Amazing Spider-Man, and That Weird YouTube Video

Andrew Garfield, who's already won a BAFTA, may win a Tony next now that Death of a Salesman is the clear favorite for this awards season. The play scored a total of seven nominations, including Best Featured Actor in a Play for Garfield, for his portrayal of Biff opposite Philip Seymour Hoffman's Willy Loman. Garfield, of course, will also be your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man at the multiplexes this summer, so his Death run will be coming to a close on June 2 to give him some time for movie promotion. For now, he's still trodding the Barrymore, even during a bout with bronchitis, for which he refused to cancel any performances earlier this month. Now that he's on the mend, Garfield chatted with Vulture about his Tony nod, wanting a call from Samuel L. Jackson, and that weird YouTube video we came across recently.

(skipping to Avengers part)

Spider-Man in The Avengers? I'm sure we all remember that rumor of a cameo that was doing the rounds, but could it really be a possibility in a future movie? Well, probably not... but that doesn't stop Andrew Garfield doing a bit of wishful thinking. While speaking to Vulture the actor reveals that he saw the movie and is a huge fan, adding that he was jealous of not being apart of it and is more than happy to join the team if Nick Fury ever calls him up to the roster.

Q: Have you seen The Avengers? If Sony would let you assemble, would you? After all, Spidey eventually becomes a member of the team in the comics.

Garfield: I saw it, and I was blown away. And I'm going to see it again this weekend. I have no problem adding to the amount of money it's making! [Laughs.] Joss Whedon is a genius, and it's an incredible cast. I was very, very jealous, and I wanted to jump on the screen and play with them. It killed me that I wasn't in it, but I understand why, and I'm not insulted. But hey, if Samuel L. Jackson wants to give me a shout, I'm there for the next one!

It seems a good lot of the cast members from various Marvel related CBMs would be very interested in some kind of team up, now all we need are the studios to get on board. That's something that is very unlikely to happen, but ya just never know!

Read more on link.

Come on, let it happen Sony!

After seeing how much TA made in the box office thus far, I hope Sony will realize that having Spider-Man in the sequel for The Avengers will actually help, not hinder, their pocketbook. Maybe Sony can arrange to have one of the Avengers making a cameo in ASM2 as well. Btw, I really love Garfield's enthusiasm, and his confession at wanting to join the cast of TA. I have had some reservation about ASM but this movie is looking better and better with each new trailer released.

So, Avengers exposure could theoretically increase Spider-man's future revenue.

What's in it for Marvel? What would Marvel/Disney get out of this that would actually benefit them? Note that "put a cameo in a future Spider-man movie" is kind of dubious, since they already *have* their own mechanism of generating hype and exposure ( the MCU ).
