how about wolverine? does sony also own the rights to the character? an avengers with spidey, wolverine, and thanos in it has a great chance of breaking the 2 billion mark
I half-expected a scene in Captain America, where the Allies disembark on Normandy. The boat hits the shore. Cap is looking at the beach, then he turns to see his troops. James Howlett stands there, among the other Joes, sideburns, cigar and all, and he just nods at Cap and says something like "After you, bub!"
It makes more business sense to keep the franchises separate though. There is only so much of an upside you can get by adding a major character onto another major movie franchise; it's not like TA box office intake would be automatically doubled if Spider Man was in there too. The audience that will see the Avengers will likely consist of the same people that will see Spider Man, so unless you can somehow convince the theatre chains to double ticket prices because Spider Man or Wolverine joined the Avengers, you're better off keeping the franchises separate, and having the same people pay multiple times for different cinematic experiences.
Besides, one bad movie a la Green Lantern could pose the risk of wiping out the commerical viability of two or more franchises at once.
...At Comic-Con last summer, Arad was asked if he would consider allowing Spider-Man to appear in an Avengers movie. At the time Arad insisted there were enough Spider-Man stories to keep him separate. Now that The Avengers is such a phenomenon, he is even open to considering making a deal between Sonys Spidey and Disneys Avengers. He says he thought of the Venom crossover possibility independently of Avengers though.
Everything is possible, Arad said. If something like that happens, its great for Disney, its great for Sony. If the right story comes in, we are now working on Venom first. Its our first out. So our thinking is in the right direction. Avengers to me was an expected success so I never looked at it because Avengers was successful.
Yeah, what a ****. "No they'll never be connected... Oh wait, Avengers is the biggest Marvel film ever made? I SUPPOSE we could allow the two to be connected."
We don't want the Sony Spidey connected to the MCU, we want an MCU Spidey, full stop.

No way. If Sony screw up Spidey again, I don't want him connected to the great work Marvel are doing, in anyway at all. If he's going to be connected to the MCU, I want Marvel in creative control.
It's a shame this didn't happen:

Sony going broke is probably going to ask like 40% of the whole movie gross if they were to "lend" Spidey to Disney. Not going to happen.I was just about to post this link...
If even Oscorp can be snuck in The Avengers, then there must be a deal or some talk, at least, between Marvel and Sony, right? I'm guessing both movies will seem open-ended enough to include each other, if it ever will happen. It probably won't but at least there's a possibility.
Even Avi Arad noted the possibility. It's not a guarantee or a good chance but...still.
I just don't want this to happen unless they replace that god awful Garfield suit with something more faithful to the source.
Personally I hope it does not happen because everyone in The Avengers was perfectly cast, but imo Garfield is a long way from the perfect PP/SM.
