The Avengers Spidey in the Avengers?

What would Sony net for allowing Spiderman to appear in a Disney Marvel Avengers film? Would it justify/balance their books? If they cannot manage their film studio and they needed the money, the only thing left to do is to sell Spiderman back to Marvel .... not to sub-license it.

Alas this is not the case. Spiderman is a proven stud movie franchise for them. Why would they want to "share" the profit? It would put them in an even deeper hole if indeed they continue to be for 2012.

I in no way expect Spider-Man to be in The Avengers. I don't know that it would make sense right now, story-wise for either one. However, I do think it is entirely possible that the worlds may be blended together subtley down the road. BTW, they already share some of those profits with Marvel.

Exactly. And I'm not saying 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' can't get there. Begins had an uphill battle too. I have no hesitation that Batman could have done a lot better if it ended on a good note. That's why I keep referring to SM3 as the 'Batman & Robin' effect. If neither film had those, I'm willing to bet they could have done a lot better. I mean, even Iron Man raked in 118 million more than Batman and that was just starting out. But, it had to prove itself all over again with already wary audience. With that said Spidey has a bigger foe than Lizard... Amazing (god, Sony, why???) is up against a film that's looking to rake in +533 million. As a Spidey fan, I seriously have no idea what they were thinking. To me that's practically suicide with other battles.

EDIT: Those wondering about Batman numbers above, that's what 'The Dark Knight' received. There were some who still staid home, found it on home video, and enjoyed it that would be adding to the others from the previous go-around. Don't see a drop because nothing major is in front of it or behind it really except Spidey and it was widely talked that it felt like it was snubbed at Oscars. It can only go up. As a Batman fan, that's good news. As a Spidey fan, that's a nightmare.

The funny thing is, if Marvel had the film rights to ALL their characters, we still might not see Spidey in Avengers. A cameo? maybe. But logically they might hold off for future Avenger movies. As is, they aren't including many Avenger characters they do have the rights to.

But that's understandable. You can't cram everybody into the movie, lol. (see Spidey 3)


Anyway, I'm curious to see if in the coming days someone makes a statement either way about the rumor.

While Begins definitely rebounded from the flop that was B&R, it wasn't really close to duplicating Burton (or even Batman Forever) numbers. So BB as a reboot was a *slight* success, but nowhere close to regaining the glory of the Burton era in terms of ticket sales. It wasn't until TDK that the Nolan franchise really exploded.

This is the first time, outside of Aliens vs. Predators or Jason vs. Freddy, that characters have united AT ALL in film history. The notion that studios compete, outside of box office, as you seem to think is not correct - at all. The notion/goal is to get as much support as one can get.

There's always Who Framed Roger Rabbit. We got to see Looney Toons ( Warner) paired with Disney characters.

The rumor itself doesn't hold much weight. It's not likely , of course, but I wouldn't say it's impossible.

I'd think that even a non-comic book geek would still recognize Captain America....and his trailer would likely be conspicuously red, *white* and blue instead of just red & blue.

You may be onto something with Ant-Man, though...*if* Hank Pym is in this and Marvel has been keeping him under wraps, I could see someone like Jenny Agutter confusing his colors and logo and schtick with Spider-Man.

Well no doubt Avengers will have some sort of a surprise or an Easter egg for fans.

The question is what will it be?

Ant-Man is a cool possibility. His slow introduction would fit in with Marvel slowly introducing the less realistic characters in the franchise. Sadly a Spidey cameo is probably only a 1% chance.

Ah well.

My guess would be that she saw something related to the Black Widow and confuded her with Spider Man. If SM did have a cameo my guess is that they would do everything they could to keep it hush hush. They might sream it from the mountain tops for extra press but I would go with it being kept hush hush.

With that being said I'm not sure I would like to see it and I don't see what point it would serve.
