The Avengers Spidey in the Avengers?

I think there is a very good chance that we will see some connectivity between SM and the MCU especially in this next phase of the MCU. TASM2 is scheduled for 2014 along with Cap2 and probably Ant-Man. So we have Marvel movies in April, May and August, that provides a good opportunity to make some references to each other.

I really hope so :D

But it really depends on what the relationship between SONY and Marvel are like between now and then, SONY's financial troubles, the new writers for TASM, and the creative team behind the MCU.

I think the relationship between Sony and Marvel is way more collaborative than the relationhip between Fox and Marvel, so I think it is likely that something will happen. This was the quote from Disney CEO Bob Iger last fall when Disney purchased the merchandising rights:

"To that end, we recently completed a transaction with Sony Pictures to simplify our relationship. And then in the deal, we purchased Sony Pictures' participation in Spiderman merchandising, while at the same time, Sony Pictures purchased from us our participation in Spiderman films. This transaction will allow us to control and fully benefit from all Spiderman merchandising activity, while Sony will continue to produce and distribute Spiderman films. We won't be specific about the economics of this 2-way transaction, but we expect it will drive attractive returns for Disney."

That doesn't mean collaboration though. Sony needed immediate cash, and they sold merchandising rights. Now Disney can add Spidey to their theme parks and what not. That's all you take out of that.

Sony probably hires Marvel people independently to advise them on future film projects, but that doesn't mean "collaboration" between both studios. There is no way they will come to some deal where Spidey in Avengers means box office commision for Sony or anything like that. Anything would be Easter Eggs for the fans as sort of "Coming attractions" and such. Just to build word of mouth. Cameos are probably possible with the same motive. It would just make for good filler scenes to get people talking about it. Not sure there is a significant business benefit to justify going through the hassels to make it happen.

So let's say Sony wants a Stark video press conference scene with Norman Osborn where RDJ is in the film and has a few lines. Or perhaps even in person, if they can afford him. Then that paves the way for a Garfield cameo in God knows where. Maybe Ant-Man. Don't know. It has to be done on a mutual basis as favors to one another. But you can't market that stuff in trailers so what would be the point? Other than nods to the fans or opportunities for comedic scenes and what not.

after seeing Amazing Spiderman, I really hope he shows up in Avengers 3, at least, in a cameo, a short fight sequence, or something

I think the Garfield Spider-Man can easily fit into the MCU.

Nothing besides problems with certain skyscrapers in The Amazing Spider-Man restricts it from being compatible with the MCU, unless TASM2 really does something to counter that.

Just add in/ remove some buildings in NYC (Stark Tower, Oscorp Tower, MetLife Building), reference a masked vigilante in NYC in one of the MCU Phase 2 films, establish in a TASM sequel when the Chituari took place, and we're good to go.

I know what you mean, but that description makes me laugh when I read it. :funny:

I keep picture a fat Spider Man who hates Mondays and keeps kicking Odie off of rooftops.

except that Shield manages to show up when things go wrong and they didn't when the Lizard wanted to upgrade NY

That event happened in a rather small time frame. They probably showed up some time afterwards or were off screen.

Also, if they were there during the event, I doubt they could've done anything other than help with the evacuation and such.

Maybe some of the SWAT guys were SHIELD guys.

It'd be funny if Spider-Man's big Avengers cameo was just Steve Rogers watching his first modern movie -- and it turns out to be The Amazing Spider-Man.

I love how so many people seem to completely misunderstand the point of the 'MCU'. It's the MARVEL cinematic universe, within MARVEL continuity. They haven't built up a giant, continuous world over 6 films just to abandon that continuity and level of creative control altogether for the point of a cheap, crowbarred in cameo that they don't need at all.

Should Spidey belong in the MCU? Of course, all the Marvel heroes should, but on Marvels terms, not Sony's or 2Oth Century Fox or anyone else who just see's these characters as dollar bills.

You are a genius. That would be the biggest "FU" to Sony that Marvel could make.

Stop making sense.

It'd be even funnier if they showed him walking out on it.

Sorry. Didn't think that was as funny... :cwink:

The point being Spiderman is a fictional superhero in the current MCU. But that would make it even cheesier if and when the real Spiderman appeared. The irony in that though. Pretty halarious.

Steve: "Why can't we have a kid like that on our team?"
Natasha: "Because only I can be the spider-themed hero."
Tony: "Because only I can have the clever one-liners."
Hulk: "Because too puny."

I hope it doesn't happen. And btw, that whole thing with garfield holding thanos comics, totally a publicity stunt.

I think the title of this thread is pretty misleading.

It should be "Spidey in the MCU?"

It shouldn't even be in the Avengers section

Sorry... didn't think that was funny either. Leave the writing to the Marvel reps.

Hulk probably would say that.

This thread was made as a result of the Spider Man in Avengers rumors were out so it is not inaccurate. It just needs to be closed because it was proven false and is now irrelevant.

It's not really irrelevant anymore as that news came out the the Oscorp building, as it appeared in TASM, was going to appear in The Avengers.

The Avengers came out already, it didn't happen. What else is there to discuss?

Next thing you know Fox will announce FF4, Xmen and Daredevil, and try to make a deal with having them in MU films too. And all the people who think TASM should be in MU will be like..."Wow thats a good idea, Marvel should allow FOX to put them in there too, we could see a Fox Xmen vs Marvel Avengers movie, or maybe a Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut vs Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk"

Well apparently teh guy who directed Chronicle is finally set to direct the Fantastic Four reboot, so we'll see where Fox goes from there.
