Civil War Spideys Back!So what Role will Panther play?

T'Challa is likely playing the same role.

I don't expect to see Steve, Tony, and T'Challa's roles cut down for Spidey. They'll trim down elsewhere to make room for him, should he have a featured role (rather than a cameo) as rumored.

I honestly don't think spider-Man is going to have a huge role in this which may disappoint some, he may just be a glorified cameo in the war part of Civil War lol. And I'm more than fine with that, I want to see Black Panther in this much more.

Same here.

Thirded. It'll be cool to see Spider-Man for a couple minutes. But I'm really interested to see how Marvel makes BP the man in the middle.

No, that wouldn't work. That was the problem, well the big problem anyway, with the comic. They SAID that it was going to be fair to both sides, but it wasn't. Instead, Cap was made out to be the saintly martyr whole Tony and his side were demonized. Having BP "jump" to Cap's side, or at least doing so and then not having someone from Cap's side jump to Tony's as well, only reinforces the idea that Marvel is biased towards one side. Which is NOT how you do a concept like CW.
The problem in the comics was that Tony Stark and his crew were straight-up fascists. I've always maintained this. The concept was poorly executed in terms of characterization from top to bottom... which isn't really a surprise considering it came from Mark Millar.

The movie, on the other hand, can (and should) have a more balanced view of each side, making good arguments for both sides while still focusing on Cap as its protagonist. Just because the movie's protagonist will be Cap, it doesn't mean that that automatically demonizes Stark. The fact that you think a Civil War movie cannot be told from Cap's POV without painting Stark as some kind of evildoer is patently bizarre.

I'm sorry, but that's exactly how you do Civil War. Thankfully Marvel agrees.

Well, now that Spidey will presumably be siding with Cap, maybe T'Challa will side with Stark & co.?

I think Black Panther will stay in the middle, and I think Marvel will do the same for Spider-man (because most likely whatever side Spidey's on, the general audience will be biased towards).

I want to see Black Panther fight Captain America and Iron Man...sooo bad.

I had this thought after watching the most recent episode of Agents of SHIELD:

Anyone else think that Spiderman's role in Civil War will reflect/parallel that of Fitz's? Fitz was looking like he was disillusioned with SHIELD because they were giving in to fear (both sides) and he didn't want to have a part. I could see Spidey being set up as this idealistic, young, fresh hero (which makes a lot of sense seeing the age Marvel is going for, which helps set him apart from the adult heroes) who decides not to sides with Cap, Iron Man or even Black Panther, because all of them are giving into the fear after the destruction left after Ultron. All three parties sort of lose sight of the fact that they are supposed to be heroes first and foremost, which is what Spidey truly believes, because as his uncle once taught him:

It's most likely correct this movie is about Cap and Stark butting heads first and foremost with Black Panther playing the middle role and Spidey is...well as far as we know Spidey is just kinda there.

:0 Fitz just left shield...
He's nerdy...
What if Fitz becomes Spider-Man! :0
I doubt it. :P But it would be a cool cross in.
An interesting idea at the least.

Note that during the Infinity War announcement yesterday, Marvel made sure to re-emphasize Panther's role in CW.

The Russo brothers first entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” one of the top-grossing film’s from 2014, and are currently preparing to shoot Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War.” The third film in the Captain America franchise will bring the classic storyline from the comics to life pitting Cap (Chris Evans) against Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), as well as introducing Black Panther to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with actor Chadwick Boseman ahead of his own film later in Phase 3.

Yeah, whatever role Spider-Man plays I can gaurentee it wont be as big as BP, IM or Cap.

My prediction. Panther will be the man in the middle. Peter will have an arc similar to Steve in TFA. By the end of the movie Steve will see himself in Peter and will be given hope for the future. Sort of like John Blake's role in Rises.

I'm starting to feel like Spider-Man will be a very small cameo in this film. They said that he would debut in a Marvel film before his solo, but they never said what size the role would be. He hasn't even been cast yet.

Yep. Haven't they started filming? Maybe he will just be a cameo or even a cameo in Dr Strange. BP might not even have that big of a role. These are good opportunities to get people interested in future fims. Especially non comic book readers. Who's the dude in the black suit? He's BP he's got a film coming out in 2 years.

My gut says it's still more than likely that Black Panther has the more substantial role, but I would hope that the cameo/role Spidey has is significant enough to matter as well.

Nope, Marvel had a plan with or without Spidey:

Two scripts. Spider-Man won't just be a cameo.
Marvel's original plan was to have Spidey have a pretty substantial role in Civil War.
Take in the fact that this deal has been done since OCTOBER!

I believe they pushed back shooting for Civil War. It was supposed to start last week, but I don't think it has.

See, I think it's the total opposite.

"I wouldn’t say it was “drastic” but we were certainly happy when it all came together."

That doesn't sound like the scripts would have been that much different. If anything, that pushes more towards a cameo appearance opposed to a huge role. Had his appearance been major the scripts would have been "drastically" different.

That's just my logic though.

I don't recall anyone from Marvel ever saying how big Spidey's part would be, & the reality is he hasn't been cast yet with filming about to start. Given that, and Feige saying getting Spidey didn't incur "drastic change", one would assume it isn't a substantial part.

The deal wasn't done in October, I don't know why you keep saying that, it was done if February.

By October the talks with Sony had fallen through (as heard from the leaks), so Marvel moved on with their Plan A (minus Spidey) and announced it to the world.

It seems many people are forgetting that TChalla in Civil War will be a young TChalla, and most likely not King yet... that will most likely happen in his own movie.

Chadwick Boseman is 38 haha. I don't think we can say that for sure.
