Spielberg committed to Robopocalypse!

I've always wished they'd drop the "po" and just have it be Robocalypse. rolls off the tongue a lot better.

Nice, I really like the book. The characters/events are set all over the place, wonder how they'll handle this. Hemsworth, yes please. Hathaway, uhm yes please. Not sure who she'd play, though...

Whishaw eyed for 'Robopocalypse' role
Brit thesp Ben Whishaw, who stars in WB's "Cloud Atlas" and plays Q in Sony's upcoming James Bond pic "Skyfall," is being eyed for a key role in Steven Spielberg's "Robopocalypse," which is a co-production between DreamWorks and 20th Century Fox.
Whishaw has not received an official offer yet, but sources tell Variety that he has been at the top of DreamWorks' list since the casting process began to play a hacker named Lurker.

Chris Hemsworth is in negotiations to star, while Anne Hathaway has been approached for the female lead.

Whishaw's bigscreen credits include lead roles in Tom Tykwer's "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer" and Jane Campion's "Bright Star."

Good choice. I expected one of the kids from Harry Brown to be cast in that. Whishaw will do nicely.

Tom Rothman is going to be credited as a producer on the movie :D .

there is like zero chance that any producer could force changes to Spielberg

Are some of you guys seriously worried about Rothman?

1. He's no longer an exec.
2. He wasn't doing as bad the last few years any way because he's learned from his mistakes.
3. It's freakin' Spielberg. No one's going to tell a guy who's movies made over 8 billion combined what to do.

While he has an enormous amount of creative freedom , he still can buckle under pressure.

i didnt know that. is this true or just a rumor?

i dont remember Spielberg in the last 20 years making a decision in a movie that was risky. he is always playing it safe with expensive movies. i think the studio can trust him.

Sigh.... I'm kind if getting tired of this obvious Tom Rothman worry when his name is brought up. I wonder how many movies he's produced that we haven't heard about where he hasn't caused problems? More than you think. We just generalize because we've only heard those few ones.

I can't wait to see some concept art of this future world, love The Beard's sci fi work and if Hemmy and the Hath are the leads then that's more reason to look forward to it!

true true :wow::woot:

Ben Whishaw was a pretty good Keith Richards in the movie Stoned.

Chances are Rothman's name is attached since Fox picked up the movie to release it and it's probably mainly just a reward for Rothman since he helped the movie while he was out the door.

To me, Rothman is not the person to worry about. The person you should worry about is Spielberg and his misses with blockbuster popcorn films as of late.

Goddard doesn't strike me as someone to write sappy scenes.
