Spike Lee To Direct 'Oldboy' remake

I haven't seen the original, is there supposed to be some kind of big plot twist or secret reveal in this movie? It seems like someone might have cautioned me about spoilers once upon a time but I can't remember.

Yes. In the original...

He falls in love and has sex with his own daughter

Yes, there will be a twist if earlier interviews are still to be trusted.

Alrighty, just wanted to confirm the need to stay away from this until it's out. Thanks gents.

His nails...:wow:

Well Brolin, Olsen, and Copley all look good. I remember Spike Lee mentioning that the ending would be EVEN DARKER than the original's. I can't wait to see what he means by that, and I'm really scared at the same time.

They should just go ahead and release the three hour cut into theaters, the trimmed down one is not going to appeal to the general audiences.

Looking at those photos of Brolin makes me even sadder he won't be playing Batman in the upcoming movie.

Not a Batfleck hater but damn, Brolin would have rocked the cowl.

Ah well, at least I'll get to watch him hammer some mofos into paste.

Brolin is one of those actors that does action scenes and you know they're pretty accurate, considering all the brawls he gets into in real life. He'll **** you up onscreen and off.

Roque Baños is the composer.. pretty cool i loved his work on the Evil Dead remake.

This thing is still coming out this month, right? I have seen like no advertising at all.

I have a question: when you guys first heard about Oldboy, did you picture a different story than what it really is?

Because for me, I only heard the title and a very vague plot, where I learned it's about someone who is captured and detained for decades, and grows into this vengeful man who looks for answers and whoever is responsible for the years he missed. Now that is the story, granted, but because they used the word "grow" I thought the person that was detained was a kid who grows up into a young man when released. Which would make sense under that theory, since it's called Oldboy, which would also mean a child grown up, but only physically.

Anyone else thought of something different?

So anyone seeing this? Completely forgot it came out this weekend. Not exactly a family film for thanksgiving.

IMO if you have seen the original just wait for home video, to satisfy your curiosity, or even the longer cut if that ever happens.

Heading out to see it later, will try and provide a mini consensus.

Also I really do not get why Spike Lee said this film has a [BLACKOUT]darker ending[/BLACKOUT] than the original, unless I'm misquoting him.

I just realized this movie was coming out last night. The studio must really not be expecting much.

Does the end twist differ in any way?

[BLACKOUT]As far I can remember, no. There are tweaks here and there but its essentially the same. But very very end is actually different. [/BLACKOUT]

I dusted off my critics association membership and saw this. Loved it. Obviously its not as good as the original but I'm not that movie snob who sits here and complains how its unneccessary or how people should just watch the original. It's a damn good crazy, intense movie with great performances from Brolin, Olsen and Jackson. Copley eh not so much, he was wrong for the role. Lee shot a beautiful looking movie and I applaud him for going out of his normal range to make this. He even did the hallway fight justice. I also thought this ending hit harder and was better than the original. I say if you've seen the original try not to go in with an attitude and of you haven't seen the original definitely check this one out. 8/10
