i think way to many american people are focused on subtitles . its no about the subtitles with those movies. a director from a different country will make a different movie. its a different culture. and thats the main reasons why those movies work on a different level.

i rather recommend watching Stoker than Spike Lee Oldboy. and i only saw the R trailer yesterday. you all need to watch Stoker.

Looks better than I expected, but it totally looks like a case of "Total Recall", where they were supposed to be following the source material, when in reality they're just remaking the original movie (and failing, for the most part). Someone said redundant (Octoberist?), they were right.

Also, Min-sik Choi, the original lead actor had a quality to him that Brolin just doesn't have (for the particular movie). And in Oldboy, the protagonist carries the movie.

I'm quite honestly trying to keep an open mind about this, but I just don't see it. I can't. It's a very special movie to me and, regardless of how I feel about remakes in general, I'm not feeling this one bit.

Yup Brolin doesn't have that down to earth, regular guy feeling about him. Maybe that plays into the movie though.

Some of you guys don't get that, but not everyone wants to read subtitles and they see it as distracting. This is something that's not gonna change, at least not overnight or in the next few years. This is a story that Hollywood wanted to bring to American audiences and I'm just glad it's not losing the grittiness (or at least not too much of it) in the process.

Nothing to do with subtitles. If you are going to do this, you need to either do something different with the material or simply make a better film. That is what Nolan and Scorsese did with Insomnia and The Departed respectively. This is fine if you do it right. Otherwise this is a pointless exercise.

But seriously, this film really does look pointless. I still remember the first time I saw the Departed trailer. It being a remake didn't matter one bit. Looked so fresh and Scorsese. This not so much. Can't really expect much out of Spike Lee these days.

Red Hook Summer came out last year.

I kinda liked "Inside Man". It wasn't amazing, but I remember liking it. But that is his only film I have liked since "He Got Game". To the point that I have trouble believing he is really the guy who made Malcolm X.

Spike Lee put his visual spin on this movie too. You can see it in the trailer. It has a few elements of the Korean movie and it may be the same story, I won't like but it's not like it's going to be a shot for shot remake.

Like I said, this is more bringing it to American audiences, and you can't expect them to read subtitles, like others said and complained about in this thread.

I like both of those, especially Dragon Tattoo, because I prefer Mara and Craig in their roles. I prefer Let the Right One In.

There are more much much more non-english speakers in the world than English ones. So this one will actually be ....subtitled (or dubbed) to a lot of people

I liked Inside Man too but I think 25th Hour is his best movie.
