I've seen an awful lot of scenes with the arrival of Superman on earth and him in various stages of life. Does anyone know how much time is devoted to this? It seems a bit of a waste of screen time since it was already covered in the first movie.

No time at all. A singe short flashback (about 2 minutes) of young Clark discovering the power of flight... That's all, IIRC.

Not exactly. The young Clark flashback has been reduced a bit (plus some other scenes on the Kent Farm), but it has never been 20 minutes. Also, the scenes of his arrival after the visit to Krypton do not count as flashbacks - Everything that happens in the beginning until he goes back to Metropolis can be considered new material.

The Return to Krypton was just around 5 minutes, and chances are we will see it someday.
