What the hell? Was that Doug Jones voice in the full trailer? I just watched the new TV spot for the 1st time and it's clearly Fishburns and it does NOT sound right. Keep in mind I'm watching it on streaming video and not in surround sound but to me I liked the surreal sound of the voice in the trailer. I say eat the money you paid to Fishburn and keep the other voice. It's too damn deep.

What do you think???

Note: There is one incorrect vote above where someone clicked on the tv spot voice by accident. So that column should have one less vote and the trailer column should have one more vote.

I think the Fox executives should get on their knees and go crawling all the way to Budapest and beg for Doug's forgiveness and then put his voice back as the Surfer's because Fishburne's voice sucks in that role.

>^^<

^ Was that Doug's voice in the trailer? WTF was Fox thinking it's way better if it was his. The voice is the sould to the character and it should match the way the character appears. The Silver Surfer is a sleek formed alien being...a myster to the planet Earth. The smooth almost eerie voice was far more effective than a deep voice like it is now.

I like Jone's voice in the trailer better as well. I think it might be becasue I've watched the trailer so many times I'm just used to the first voice.

IMO it was a huge mistake to put an unfinished voice in the trailer. A really big mistake. I would rather he didn't say anything and have them actually confirm who was voicing, than have them put in a voice and then completely change it. It isn't even a minor change.

Yeah it's a major change. Still nobody has confirmed if that was Doug in the trailer or not. Either way keep the original voice. Maybe it'll cost you a 100k+ for the voice overs...but if the movie is better and the character feels better it'll pay off.

I don't care, cause I'm not real hip on either of them....I'll wait for the movie....

I've watched the tv spot over and over and it's just not right now. It seems added on. And this isn't because I met Doug or like him as a person or anything like that. I dont' even know if that's his voice in the first one. I actually told Doug online that it sux he lost the voice but that I really thought Fishburns voice was cool too...again of course assuming that it was his digitized voice in the trailer. In any event I asked Tim Story and Arad to take the time to analyze them both again and not let the cost of hiring Fisburn prevent them from the right choice.

well that tv spot voice sucked total balls. i LOVED the voice in the trailer it was perfect to me for the surfer. DAMN FOX SCREWS THINGS UP AGAIN!

The trailer voice was the best, but we can't judge how good the overall voice presentation will be based off of one line, IMO. But yeah, the tv spot voice kinda sucked, and was too deep. :p The trailer voice was softer, and more of what I pictured SS to sound like.

I agree. People are naturally going to become attached to the first SS voice they hear. Now with the totally different voice in the tv spot, it's (rightfully so) causing a some fans to freak out.

I liked the spot...I didn't like Lawrences voice. The only other complaint is stop showing us new footage now. We've seen enough. The trailers are effective. LOL I hate going into films having seen glimpses of all the best scenes and comedy moments.

Well theres more to that comedy moment....I can assure you.....lol

Oh I know there is and I do realize they have to remove some of the bad taste from the first film. I enjoyed the first film and understand the obstacles and difficulties this franchise has in bringing to the big screen and being compared to X-Men, etc...I can look past that and everything (except the new voice) has been A+ material.

The voice from the full trailer, most likely Doug Jones's, was far better. It sounded nearly perfect to me, whereas Fishborne's sounds completely out of place.

i hate the fishburne voice, go back to using doug's voice.

**** I clicked the wrong box. When looking at that poll take note that my vote was supposed to be for full length trailer.

^ That sucks. LOL I wish that could be changed but then the polls would all be corruptable.

So it's 13-1 original voice.

Ok i need to clear something up.

There have been no trailers/tv spots that had the SS and Doug Jones voice. Fishburns voice has been the only voice shown to us for the Surfer.

That isn't confirmed. And Mr. Fishburne had not been in the looping studio, I believe, when the Theatrical trailer was released.

HM

Well then why do they sound so different for the same exact line??? The poll isn't for Doug vs Lawrence anyways. It's for the voice in the trailer vs the voice in the tv spot. So whatever they did in the trailer...do it that way.

Dynasty do you have 1st hand knowledge of this. Also HM if anyone would know...you would.

Yes, that is Doug n the full trailer. It's yet another classic example of why "stunt casting" doesn't work. I'm sure the studio heads were sitting around one day and said, "Hey we need a guy with gravitas. How 'bout Lawrence Fishburn? He's bald like the Silver Surfer!"

Write to Fox, or call them Here's the main number (310) 369-1000, ask for Tom Rothman

or write to Tim Story he has a "myspace"

I beg to differ.

Seriously. And don't give that crap about how "it's not going to do any good anyway" that's just an excuse to be lazy, obviously there's no guarantee that the voice will be reverted back. Unless people stand up and make their voices heard no one is going to know or care that people don't like the new voice, and based on all the changes they've made for this film I'd say they're more inclined to listen to what fans have to say this time around.

Plus, it's not even a ridiculous request like asking them to re-cast Doom or something, the old voice is already there, it exists. It's just a matter of it being put back in.

Exactly. So if that is Doug's voice...keep it. It's surreal as it should be. It's damn perfect. Even if it wasn't Doug's voice change it back to how it was. Eat the damn cost...change it back. I had nothing but good things to say about the original voice and I thought it WAS Lawrence even though it didn't sound like him. Fishburns name doesn't add anything to this film. Nobody is gonna go to this film because his voice is in it. LOL

Edit: Also I did already send a message to Tim Story and Arad separately and linked them to this thread. If I knew anyone else to link it to I would. I also asked Mirko to add a similar poll to the front page to bring more attention to it. Hopefully he will before it's too late. If more people want Fishburn (or the new voice) in it then whatever...but at least they're getting some "on the fly" feedback here.
