What an ass. I don’t know a thing about comic books but I’m going to assume they’re bad.

But talk about making my point for me: Yeah, I don't know very much about Stan Lee and it certainly wasn't a swipe at Stan Lee,"

Maher continued, "Yeah, fine. I am agnostic on Stan Lee. I don't read comic books. I didn't even read them when I was a child. What I was saying is, a culture that thinks that comic books and comic book movies are profound meditations on the human condition is a dumb [frick]ing culture. And for people to get mad at that just proves my point."

A comic is no less capable of conveying profound meaning than a film, book, or even a video game. Maher's being an ignorant snob about this.

Let Bill Maher say what he wants. He is clearly seeking attention and trying to provoke others. I say ignore him, don’t give him any attention. And don’t get angry or upset over it because that’s what individuals like him crave. That’s his livelihood and what he thrives off of. Let those who cannot embrace others’ beautiful creative spirits because they find what they produce to be “childish” remain blind. Let them remain blind to the joys, entertainment, deeper meaning and symbolism we get as comic fans. Some just won’t get it and that’s fine; it’s their viewpoint and sadly their loss.

More people care about Stan Lee dead than care about Bill Maher alive. And that's something Maher will never change.

Comic books and their genre have been around for millennia. The only difference is how the medium looks. Odysseus could be considered a super hero. I don't see anyone dismissing the Illiad as trash.

People are spending way too much time talking about and responding to Maher. They’re giving him more attention than he merits, which is what he was after in the first place.

Do you really think Bill Maher has any serious thoughts about how comic books dumb down our culture? He wanted to say something provocative to get attention, and he decided to do it by piggybacking on the death of a beloved pop culture icon.
