We have two trailers, a 9 minute preview, and Abrams switching to Star Wars. Discuss. :D

I'm going to play it safe and say $500 million WW.

Domestic- At least $200 million
Worldwide - More or less $450 million

I'm going to guess around 600 million worldwide. Which would double what the first one made.

The first film created a new generation of Trekkies, and I think the second movie will do much better at the box office than the first one did. I imagine somewhere around $500-600 million.

I have a feeling that the public knowledge of JJ directing Star Wars next will drum up a bit more interest than there would be otherwise.

Very true. Also, I think casting Benedict Cumberbatch was a really smart move. Lots of his fans are going to see the movie just for him.

I wonder what the goal for the studio is this time around? I know they've acknowledged that they want to improve on the international numbers from last time.

Well, Benedict will probably attract fans of the show Sherlock and BBC in general, so I think internationally it could do much better.

I think the total worldwide take will be around 500 million. With domestic at around 200 million.

My feeling is that the UK box office will be higher than usual with Benedict Cumberbatch as the villain.

I actually think there's a strong chance that, domestically, it could cross $300million. Star Trek '09 made around $257 million all while having to overcome the stigma of being a ST film.

Not to mention this film comes with the studio mandated 3d.

Even if the movie sucks it's practically a lock for 245mil total. I'm just going to go all out with my prediction, I'm probably overpredicting it but what the heck.

Opening Weekend: 135mil
Total 340mil

Overseas: 300mil

Iron Man 3 is gonna to hurt this film.
DOM 240m
OS 130m
Plus the last movie pissed the fans off and the general audience forget about the first film.

First film made almost $400m

I'm going to say with the trailers showing Benedict Cumberbatch (Great actor) instead of the more disappointing cast (Look at the stats, less people are watching the trailers which dont have Benedict Cumberbatch in) then i'll expect it to probably double.

I'm guessing a minimum of $600m. However, if Khan or Gary Mitchell is confirmed as the main villian then that will shoot it up to $1b. If it is anyone else, or a new villain then dont expect more than $800m

Doubt that. If anything, the news that JJ's taking the reigns on the next Star Wars probably means they remember it now more than ever.

"They"....the general audience don't know that Abrams has taken over SW.

Anyway, they've cranked up the marketing, people will remember it.

Give them a little credit. I'm sure they're not COMPLETELY out of the loop.

there were so many people sure this was going to be a juggernaunt...

anyways I think all this starwars talk has hurt the investment factor for this property, also the long wait kinda dulled it's hype imo.

I don't see any Trek film ever making it anywhere near the billion dollar mark. They have a dozen films worth of history to show Trek just isn't big overseas and unless you're real big OS then a billion will never happen.

Probably between 500-600 milion. Benedict Cumberbatch is probably going to attract many.

I don't think JJ Abrams taking over Star Wars is going to really affect this film that much. Star Wars isn't coming out for another 2 years, and Star Trek Into Darkness has a little over a month. Its still hot, and has a lot of hype.

As long as it earns around $500 million or so, and is GOOD, I will be satisfied.

I just hope Paramount does something BIG for the 50th anniversary of Star Trek. Re-release old Star Trek films, make a sequel to Into Darkness... something!

^^^
Agreed. Paramount would have to be nuts to not do something big for the 50th.
