Star Trek Sequel

I'd like to see the next one go to the roots of the series which was a blend of space adventure mixed with social commentary.

I'd prefer to see the movie deal with the fallout from the loss of Vulcan.

One of the four founding worlds of the Federation was just destroyed, with 6 billion lost, in what's essentially a Romulan terrorist attack from the future. I'd like to see the social results (paranoia, persecution, beefed up security) and economic fallout from losing a key member world (economic disruption, having to support the new Vulcan colony). This would be an opening for less trusting member worlds to join together to try to change the Federation the way they want to prevent this from happening again.

This could lead to things like civil war, giant (and smaller) space battles between Federation ships. Or other groups may try to take advantage of the weakened Federation, again leading to some great battles. All while the inner conspiracy rages on.

Sacrificing liberty for security.

Enough with Khan. Khan is not, and never has been, all that interesting.

Your idea would definitely be something I'd enjoy seeing. I'd personally like to see the Enterprise encounter something new that no one has seen before. I'd like to see a real space explorer story. Something that actually reflects the famous monologue that began every episode of TOS.

Well, lets not be mistaken, he's one of the greatest Trek villains of all time. But I just dont think there's really any reason to feature him so soon after Abrams, Kurtzman and Orci have essentially given the Trek universe a clean slate.

If they use Khan, they should create a movie that is dissimilar to "Wrath of Khan".

That's almost literally saying nothing. The other villains tend to suck.

Off the top of my head, there's The Gorn, who is a...lizard person.

A satellite, "V'ger".

Chang, who is a silly ass general.

Another satellite, one that talks to whales.

Sybok

Kruge, who is an almost completely inept Klingon played by Christopher Lloyd.

The Borg Queen, who looks cool, but who may be the most boring female villain ever.

And Khan, who is all about...wait for it...wait for it...revenge!!!

How about "fast tracking" an interesting movie this time around. Trek was completely devoid of any new ideas.

Well it would be different, since it can't obviously be a revenge movie. What they would need to be conscious of is not copying "Space Seed". It sounds like the writers are maybe giving up the idea of using Khan anyway.

No he wasn't, he was just the definitive villain in the original film series, and the ONLY Star Trek villain that is a household name. He is only Kirks most infamous nemesis and is only featured in the BEST film in the original series.

Other than that, he is just a lame throw away charcter... :whatever:

To me, they should take advantage of this new 'reality'. They can't redo the TV Show or old movies because, quite frankly, it'll defeat the purpose of having a new timeless in the first place.

Now, it's time to be creative. If they use Khan, that's cool, but it's has to be different.

You seem to be one of the very few who gets this...

What?!! *shocked face* Khan is legendary!! in my eye will and always be the "best" Trek villian and one of my fave villians of all time!! but that's me, as much as I love Khan, I'm hoping for a new concept/story/villian for the sequel or a remake of some other "classic" TOS eps :)

Khan may be legendary, but he's not interesting. In fact, he's rather cheesy much of the time.

Once again.

Being the best villain out of a pool of lame, half-ass, uninteresting villains does not make you all that impressive.

At this point I think it's hard to say how the new universe will be operating. Only the writers know. It may be completely different, or it may have similar events and people as the tv show.

Sure they changed the Trek universe, but everything that happened was completely unoriginal. It just wasn't as groundbreaking as people think.

-Kirk being a james Dean like rebel without a cause/scrappy under-dog

-Spocks violent fits of rage

-Spock  Uhura

-Nero and the evolved future Romulans

-The Star Fleet Academy actually in the movie

-The origin of the Enerprise crew

-JJ Abrams version of Earth actually SEEN in a Star Trek movie rather than just refernced (ST4 went to Earth but it was OUR Earth, not the future)

So tell me how this is all "old news"?

Well I thought he was great, interesting and yes "cheesy" and "OTT" but to me he was impressive, and had cool factors, but guess that's me...

I think they should bring back the Doomsday machine. I think just special effects wise that would be awesome!

I also still stand by the giant Tribble.

and they destroyed the planet VULCAN! If that isn't Earth shattering (or shall I say "Universe Shattering", I don't know what is.
