What ain't gonna happen?
What ain't gonna happen?
I'd like to see the next one go to the roots of the series which was a blend of space adventure mixed with social commentary.
I'd prefer to see the movie deal with the fallout from the loss of Vulcan.
One of the four founding worlds of the Federation was just destroyed, with 6 billion lost, in what's essentially a Romulan terrorist attack from the future. I'd like to see the social results (paranoia, persecution, beefed up security) and economic fallout from losing a key member world (economic disruption, having to support the new Vulcan colony). This would be an opening for less trusting member worlds to join together to try to change the Federation the way they want to prevent this from happening again.
This could lead to things like civil war, giant (and smaller) space battles between Federation ships. Or other groups may try to take advantage of the weakened Federation, again leading to some great battles. All while the inner conspiracy rages on.
Sacrificing liberty for security.
Enough with Khan. Khan is not, and never has been, all that interesting.
Well, lets not be mistaken, he's one of the greatest Trek villains of all time.
If they use Khan, they should create a movie that is dissimilar to "Wrath of Khan".

How about "fast tracking" an interesting movie this time around. Trek was completely devoid of any new ideas.
Well it would be different, since it can't obviously be a revenge movie. What they would need to be conscious of is not copying "Space Seed". It sounds like the writers are maybe giving up the idea of using Khan anyway.
Are you kidding me?
To me, they should take advantage of this new 'reality'. They can't redo the TV Show or old movies because, quite frankly, it'll defeat the purpose of having a new timeless in the first place.
Now, it's time to be creative. If they use Khan, that's cool, but it's has to be different.

Sure they changed the Trek universe, but everything that happened was completely unoriginal. It just wasn't as groundbreaking as people think.
Khan may be legendary, but he's not interesting. In fact, he's rather cheesy much of the time.
Once again.
Being the best villain out of a pool of lame, half-ass, uninteresting villains does not make you all that impressive.
You seem to be one of the very few who gets this...
-Kirk being a james Dean like rebel without a cause/scrappy under-dog
-Spocks violent fits of rage
-Spock  Uhura
-Nero and the evolved future Romulans
-The Star Fleet Academy actually in the movie
-The origin of the Enerprise crew
-JJ Abrams version of Earth actually SEEN in a Star Trek movie rather than just refernced (ST4 went to Earth but it was OUR Earth, not the future)
So tell me how this is all "old news"?
