Star Trek Sequel

-Kirk being a james Dean like rebel without a cause/scrappy under-dog

-Spocks violent fits of rage

-Spock  Uhura

-Nero and the evolved future Romulans

-The Star Fleet Academy actually in the movie

-The origin of the Enerprise crew

-JJ Abrams version of Earth actually SEEN in a Star Trek movie rather than just refernced (ST4 went to Earth but it was OUR Earth, not the future)

So tell me how this is all "old news"?

I'm not saying those occurrences aren't original to Star Trek, I'm saying they're not original to film. I realize that Hollywood repackages stories/plots/characters all the time, but the films that are worth watching bring something new to the table, or wrap the old themes in a heavy enough facade that they're unrecognizable.

Get it?

And what was so over done and cliche about the Star Trek reboot?

Kor was one of the better villains from TOS. Maybe they'll incorporate him into the sequel.

The similarities in that video are greatly exaggerated. Pike and Obi-Wan had no similar qualities whatsoever, and the Kirk/Spock comparison to Skywalker/Solo is absurd.

And George Lucas has sighted Star Trek as one of his biggest inspirations for Star Wars, so how do you steal something from something that lifted most of it's inspiration from you to begin with? This isn't like the debate between the chicken and the egg, everyone knows Star Trek was first and Star Trek paved the way for Star Wars...

My question is just what the Hell do you call the sequel?

Most of the good super-obvious ones (Electric Boogaloo) have been mentioned. I shall add:
Star Trek II: Kirk vs. Spock (the dance-off, if you wish)

I was gonna say Klingons but the Gorn were in what, 2 episodes? ... I know for the third I want Khan AND the Klingons though.

Klingons + Gorn = Klingorn! Green, scaly, with lumpy brown foreheads, bad tempers, abbreviated senses of humor, and far too many pointy teeth.

Yeah, it would be the younger Khan meeting Kirk for the first time like on the show. They would have no history with each other.
one word Tribbles

Star Trek II: Khan! (young Kirk meets young Khan while on shore leave after the Enterprise returns to Iowa (or SF, if you prefer). They drink, they party, they hit on - and fight over - hot women. They mostly get along fine. This is a subplot of whatever else the movie is about - or so you think, until near the end, when you find out that Khan's associates have been spying on Kirk the entire time.)
--followed immediately by--
Star Trek III: Khan's Tribble-ations (after one particularly embarrassing loss of a babe to Khan's cooler demeanor, Kirk beams a hold full of Tribbles to Khan's ship. Khan doesn't appreciate the immature prank; the previously-benign Khan goes off the deep end and swears eternal revenge)

The Andorians have a really good look for the big screen but their story was very fleshed out during Enterprise's run on TV. Jeffery Combs did a great job bringing his character to life.

Loved watching Combs. He was excellent.

both movies are in the mold of Joseph Campbell's work, so it's not that valid of a video. Even though it was entertaining.

Have the third film as a badass Mirror Universe crossover;

It's never been done in the movies yet

Yes. Yes. Yes.

Yeah, that could be pretty effing cool if done well. Mirror, Mirror is one of the most famous episodes... that could generate a lot of interest.

It's no secret Abrams wishes Trek was Wars. I think that video, while humorous, points out how unoriginal it was.
Haha!!...yeah, they do have some similar scenes in both films but honestly Star Trek was here before Star Wars. The whole stopping bad guys in huge ships that destroy planets or attack random ships was done in the 60s and Star Wars came out in the late 70s.

You can also add the scene where Kirk is in the icy planet and gets attacked by the large monster....that reminds me of the scene where Luke is attacked by the abominable snowman creature on Hoth.

I still think there were a lot of differences though. Perhaps JJ Abrams was just doing a homage of star wars in some scenes.

I don't see the problem of ST paying some homage to SW, if it is done well. Abrams' ST movie is quite exciting, but the action never really interfered with the character development of its ensemble of characters. Besides, Lucas' SW prequels were disappointing and he could've used Abrams' help to make them better I'm sure.

All movies have things in them that were used in previous movies or books. All stories are variations of ones that have been told before.

Yep. And Star Wars is no exception... I even think there was a documentary where Lucas cited all of the stuff he copied or adapted when creating the original trilogy.

Yup
He's mentioned in several interviews how classic Flash Gordon was a massive influence on Star Wars.

As well as Akira Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress.

I want some damn ORIGINAL IDEAS. You've created a new universe in a sense so you create it along the way. Why create something new and then do everything again? This was the point I was making with Holmes, it defeats the purpose of reintroduction. Why do I want to see somehting I've seen before. You have the opportunity to start over, they did that, now we can move forward with other new ideas.

When they say "where no man has gone before," It doesn't mean to go where we've been before.

"Where are we going?"

"To go where no man has gone before."

"A strange new world?"

"No, to stop Khan."

"But we've done this before!"

You're missing the point. Star Trek 11 just took stuff from other movies and made the Star Trek characters do them. Lets get something more original for Star Trek 12.

Well, Hulk was worse! :cmad:

:woot:

No, but really, Hulk was worse.

I want action from the Klingon War. Personally, there should be a Klingon sneak attack on Earth, where major ship to ship combat is engaged. However, this does not mean that it is the main plot.

A traitor leaks the security codes to Klingon warbirds and they storm the planet. However, the traitor is not human, he is a Q.

Or the Gorn.
