Xbox Starfield

I can. My computer is already better than the recommended specs. Hell I can probably push the settings down to low and get 50-60 fps on my steam deck. It just depends on optimization first and foremost.
Yeah, that's the keyword.

Yeah, that's the keyword.
Their minimal specs are telling as well. We also have to remember that this is Bethesda and they're clearly using the same base tech they've always been using with higher resolution textures, advanced lighting and quality art direction ( the best art direction they've ever had in my opinion.) For the first time, I'm genuinely excited for a BGS release and hope they actually pull this off.

Well, let me know. :hehe: I'll be too busy playing Baldur's Gate 3. Besides, my old rig can't handle this so it'll have to wait a few years.

Been watching the direct again and the gunplay is so much better than I expected from what we saw before (and also given the weightlessness of it in Elder Scrolls).

A Bethesda game with top quality combat and higher level polish all over while keeping the scale is something to get very excited about. I wouldn’t say I’m particularly a Bethesda guy but I’ve played most of the recent games and Skyrim is the one that totally got me - and even that could improve a lot in a bunch of areas. A Bethesda game properly attacking the typical Bethesda weaknesses can be a higher class of game that is hard to beat from choose-your-own-character RPGs.

The writing and the quest design are going to make or break this game for me. The benefit that this game has over previous titles is if these elements suck, I can just go full No Man's Sky and just explore space. It's also not tied to a previously established franchise that I'm heavily attached to

Having both first and third person options again is ideal. I will probably play 85% in third person but love having the option of both.

Are you more of an Elder Scrolls or Fallout fan? Or 50/50?

First person for me is always the way to go with BGS games, but i do love third person so I can look at my character from time to time haha.

I'm more of a Fallout fan, specifically the original games and New Vegas. They form a fairly cohesive trilogy. I consider the BGS games fan fiction because of how lore breaking they are and how they completely misunderstood the IP but I keep playing them though. Now that 76 has actual stuff to do in it and how well it runs on Deck, I actually like it more than 4. I liked Morrowind back in the day and Daggerfall Unity is amazing so I guess it's more 70/30 in favor of Fallout.

Starfield is going to consume my existence though and I'm here for it. It brings everything they've done full circle. The procedural generation of Arena and Daggerfall but with everything they've done with their modern games and from what we've seen with a level of polish that no Bethesda game has had to date.

While I definitely enjoy Fallout, I've always been a much bigger Elder Scrolls fan. Ever since Morrowind in 2002, I've been pulled in by the type of fantasy, the lore, the gorgeous music, and the freedom and just that world in general. It's quite possibly the most nostalgia gaming franchise for me, and it feels so diverse with it's people and locations.

Thanks for that, I love hearing about the history of fan's preferences. I haven't played Fallout 1 and 2 but have always planned to go back and give them a go one day. Loved New Vegas, probably my favourite FO of the ones I have played. I haven't started Fallout 76 (also plan to one of these days) but heard it is a ton better now than it was at launch.

Down to setting alone and my strong preference for fantasy over post-apocalyptic, Elder Scrolls is far ahead for me but Starfield and sci-fi have a good chance of at least getting close. Nothing can match my ES6 hype though. If Starfield delivers on what it showed at the Direct, not only will it be an amazing experience, it will tell me modern Bethesda really can deliver for ES6 too.

Agreed on that. I wasn't expecting Starfield's visuals to be that strong or for the combat to look so smooth and actually have some weight to it. The scale of the world and the potential for exploring and interacting could be all-consuming and easy to get lost in.

:highfive::up::wink:

Does anyone know if you actually fly the ship from surface to space without cutscenes? Like Star Citizen or No Man's Sky?

No, they made it clear it's only a cut scene. Personally I'm pleased as it saves time and this game is looking to take already enough time.

Agreed. I get the appeal, but I feel like it would hinder other aspects of the game.

Gotcha, thanks. Too bad I prefer the landing and taking off, having full control of a ship. I guess I am more into space sim than just rpg.

I think these ships are just cut and paste modules. Not really any styles. Kind of disappointing. When I saw the devs cut and pasting ship parts all I thought of was Mr. Potato Head pieces.

RIP to all RTX owners... No DLSS!

Are the other cards being blocked with some functionality? That doesn’t seem like a good idea for Bethesda to do if so.

Oh man, I can't believe this game is only a month away. Very excited to get my hands on a new Bethesda Softworks game after all this time!

Yeah it's so surreal to know how close it is. It's been one heck of a journey! I pre ordered the premium so it'll be september 1st for me!

Amongst all the high profile sequels, this feels like one of the biggest game events for a good while. Much less predictable being a new franchise.

Yeah, it's very exciting. Especially as a brand new Bethesda Game Studios IP. I was reflecting back and this will be the first time I've experienced a brand new BGS world and series since Fallout 3 in 2008. Can't wait to see what the Starfield equivalent of "leaving the vault" is in this game haha

My biggest concern with this game thus far is the writing and quest design, something Bethesda has consistently half-assed since Oblivion.
