State your opinion a character

Okay, so it appears that "thebadguy" got banned (for at least the 3rd time), so I'm going to quickly post a new character to talk about and take over the thread, until one of you guys who are real users takes it over (only cuz I don't want him to log back in as someone else and take it over again).

So here goes: Darkhawk. Thoughts?

Anubis, you want this thread dude? I think I remember you posting that previously.

Yeah sure but Lets just stick with Darkhawk or whatever at least until tomorrow.

I think Darkhawk got a major boost during the War of Kings storyline. Unfortunately no other writer seemed to want to pick up on that and he floated back into Limbo.

I didn't like how he was portrayed as some toned down Hulk in Runaways. Like the man said was an Avenger but somehow he also seems to miss being drafted into a core team.

His power boosts should put him on equal footing with some of the heavier hitters in the Marvel U. He's at least Nova Prime level strength (whatever that means) and since his WoK mini, he's got the equal of a galactic Illuminati in the form of the "Fraternity of Raptors" to deal with.

Lots of potential. Marvel should have pushed him as a replacement for Nova. Heck, he should have been an Annihilator.

Awesome.
And don't be surprised if a brand new user just happens to show up demanding to take over this thread lol

As for Darkhawk, I think he has a lot of potential. I liked his original series (not loved, but liked) and thought he was fantastic in the mini-series Loners when they started giving him rage issues.
But then I think they really took him off the rails with the later cosmic stuff they've done where he was basically possessed and turned into a villain. Kinda trounced everything good about him.

I actually think, if done right, he could have his own movie. He wouldn't, cuz the necessary budget combined with lack of a following for the character doesn't warrant it. But if they made a big budget one they've got a classic teen coming to grips with new strange powers type thing to work with.

Edit: Apparently you and I disagree Sandwraith. I suggest we settle this with a Highlander-esque sword duel ;)

Yeah, he's been on the rise for awhile now ever since BKV used him in Runaways with Excelsior/The Loners.

I don't know if I'd call him "on the rise" at this point. He got a nice boost during War of Kings, but that's long past now. I was kind of hoping they'd give him a title to anchor the cosmic line when it became apparent that Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy were getting canned, but no luck.

Now they've s**t canned the Cosmic line as well, so, you know.

No, I get what you mean. For the most part, Darkhawk is and should be a street-level hero even if his origins are a little extraterrestrial. Putting him in a cosmic story is like having Daredevil take on Galactus, Loki and Thanos...something just doesn't really click. Which is why they changed up his origins in the WoK tie-in.

As for the part about 'Hawk being able to carry his own movie...seems a bit like a stretch. You see, despite his unique backstory, Darkhawk ultimately is an "Armored" Superhero visually speaking. If Iron Man wasn't already made into a movie it could work. With Iron Man already out though, Darkhawk seems like a watered down version of the Golden Avenger.

Don't even joke about that s**t man. :argh:

Nubs, it's going to happen. He already got a taste for Darkhawk in the Ultimate line, just like he did Moon Knight. He'll come back for more:csad:

Darkhawk is cool. Chris Powell is wearing a space terrorist suit but couldn't use it the way it should be worn. Darkhawk should always been contrasted with Nova. Nova space suit is worn for good, Darkhawk is made for evil but Powell is using it for good even with the constant conflict with his mind and the armor's mind.

Hire an ex BSG writer to make another proper Darkhawk mini, they need to expand background myth further. Marvel has another "Nova" in his hands, and the good thing is he's not a legacy character of Nova.

Wasn't he still considered Lilandra's assassin at the end of War of Kings and even in the Nova series? Didn't Nova try to bring him in?

Intergalactic Outlaw trying to clear his name while doing good in the universe. I mean really, the set-up is already there!

Nova - Captain America
Star-Lord - Iron Man
Darkhawk - Wolverine (based on the claw appendages and instability of his mind)
Silver Surfer - Thor
... for the GOTG universe, I see nothing wrong with it.

Yes, I think they should continue from that. Darkhawk vs the Raptor terrorists and their mastermind. Guest star: Nova, the Spaceknights, etc.

The mods finally got around to banning that guy again, huh? Took longer than I thought it would. He signed his own death warrant by coming back and admitting he created the thread and trying to jack it. I hope for his sake he never becomes a bank robber.

As far as Darkhawk, I know a little about the character but I never read his solo series back in the 90's. I enjoyed his appearances in other books like ASM and New Warriors. He was good in the cosmic stuff. If they gave him another shot at a solo, I would get it. He's one of those characters that can be incredible with a tiny bit of TLC from a solid writer.....

Thing is, I don't ever remember him being a New Warrior, and I'm a bit of a New Warrior ****e.

I believe it was around the same time the Scarlet Spider became a member, actually.

Let's keep on that train of thought Corp. We could pitch Scarlet Spider as the next character to dissect.

But yeah, I guess he was as much a Warrior as he was an Avenger. Which is to say he wasn't very involved in either team?

Now, this is just a theory to throw out, but how about somebody just call next for the next character?

I mean, we're on the honor system here, and I don't know, all it would take is one *****e to spoil it, but I like to think we're a pretty decent set of nerds here. Hows that work?

Each character gets roughly 24 hours. You got a character, then call next. And you know, no two in a row by the same person. (Unless it gets dead in here or something.)

You put a lot of faith in the concept of honour among nerds Nubs.

It might prove your undoing.

That's about right. I actually didn't remember he was an Avenger, myself.
