State Your Opinion on a Character!!!! (Reboot) - Part 4

That never made any sense to me. The costume was always just an outer shell. Where the hell did the people go to digest.....into the human hosts stomach? He would swallow people whole. I try not to take comics too serious for obvious reasons but that one is a little too hard to ignore....

I thought it altered your physiology while you wore it, not just externally. It explains why you go from having normal human teeth to razor-chompers.

New thread, new character.
And we'll kick it up with this jerk.

SEBASTIAN SHAW

Shaw... An interesting power, but frankly, has he ever been in any story where he was used as good as he was during Claremont's run? I get that he and the Hellfire Club were an interesting group when they first appeared and both visually and character wise added a nice bit of variety to the X-men's world but honestly, If he and they (Yeah, including Frost) had never been seen again after the initial Hellfire stories by Byrne and Claremont, I don't think I'd shed a tear. A lot of the Hellfire set up seemed to just be a way to get some S&M references into X-Men and justify dressing Jean Grey up like a do dominatrix, same for Frost, which is a shame. The mutant community in Marvel should have a wide variety of power bases and groups, but... Yeah, I just don't care about Shaw or Hellfire all that much.

Shaw's mutant ability is a damn cheat code. He basically exists to keep Emma Frost useful b/c only she can ever seem to defeat him. Best thing they ever did with the Hellfire club was have Sunspot buy it...who also owns AIM now. Bobby's doin pretty well these days . But yeah, Shaw sucks.

Hmm... If Shaw's power is based on kinetic energy being absorbed, how should he fair against Iceman (whom I think DID fight Shaw in X-Factor, but I might be wrong, it's been a LONG time) since he should be able to slow things down on a molecular level if he goes cold enough? Or is my understanding of physics to rudimentary for this to be a possibility?

lets see
i dig Shaw's Powerset and that dude really should be one of the Xmen most powerful foes.
i dig dude has a club where chicks, to join had to dress all White Queenish...( what!! that dude is the MACK for that! hehe)
but other than that i can take him or leave him! totally indifferent to dude!

That's easy. Whoever's writing the story will contort the laws of physics to make it so that the heat lost when Iceman slows down molecules will be transferred to kinetic energy, thus making Shaw unstoppable and he'll beat Iceman to near death.

We're lucky Hickman has never gotten to write a story involving Shaw. He'd "invent" a 4th law of thermodynamics by the 2nd issue :o

I found a few of the stories good but you're right, no one has been able to write Shaw better than Claremont did. It's kind of odd.

I like Shaw though. He's got a tremendous amount of potential to be one of the major X-villains, right up there with Magento (whenever he goes bad again), Sinister and Apocalypse. But no one can replicate or improve on what CC did so he's just a tier below those guys.

I dig him. He's one of those characters that could really stand to venture outside of the mutant corner of the MCU. He and the Hellfire Club's inner circle could use a reinvention.

Yes! Even Claremont hinted at the Hellfire club and Shaw in particular thinking to expand wider and possibly taking on the Avengers most powerful. Modernizing them in the age of Fifty Shades might be cool but as Avengers foes.

Shaw's cool and yeah, he and the Hellfire Club really need to graduate up to fighting the Avengers.

Bamf-ometer Score: 7

They did. The X-Men took Shaw prisoner and had Danger keep him sedated(he eventually broke free of course). But Sunspot owns the Hellfire Club and it's not so evil anymore.

Yeah I know. I also know about the evil kiddie Hellfire Club. But that's not really the Hellfire Club now is it?

Let's face it, sooner or later, all things revert back to status quo. Shaw will escape. He will reform the club. With new members or a few old ones. Then they will menace the X-Men again. I'm saying, when that happens, how about menacing the Avengers for a bit? Or how about the Agents of Atlas? {If they haven't all been murdered in the last event or whatever.} That could be fun.

.
NO!! they arent! and i agree with everyone else those dudes should move up to the big time and take on the Avengers! Shaw's power could be a match for all of them himself. not even counting the obese dude who could control gravity and that crazy cyborg dude!! those dudes should be in the big leagues!! with corset and garters, thigh high boot wearing chicks and powered wigs! oh and they need a brother on the team! maybe Sunspot.. but his power kinda sucks compared to the rest... maybe Moses Magnum!! that &*( would be COOL!!

Moses Magnum as part of the Hellfire Club? Damn... That is good BV. Really good. I could see he and Shaw going at it for sure, and honestly, off the top of my head I aint sure who would make it out of that fight in one piece.

I think the Hellfire Club would be cool to set up as like, a spoiler group or a group that becomes the thorn in the side of a group or villain that is usually an opponent for the Avengers. Imagine a conflict where The Masters come up against the Club?

They have so many awesome villains that they keep to only one group. Like the HF Club and the X-Men. Look at the influence they have, they could easily piss off the Avengers or the FF by messing with their government contacts, funding and other things.

Shaw alone could take on a few of the Avengers by himself. Not Thor or anyone of that level but any mid-level Avengers would have a tough time putting him down.

I mean... I guess SQUADRON SUPREME by Grunewald is a land mark series for Marvel, no doubt, it's some of the best comics to come out of the 80's, it's just overshadowed by stuff like WATCHMEN and THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and Claremont's X run. Still... I've kinda never cottoned too much to Hyperion, though I did enjoy the use of him in one of the later EARTH X mini series. And yes, just because he's a Supes riff, I am interested to see what they do with him on the AVENGERS ASSEMBLE toon now that Nighthawk has called for the rest of the Squadron. Over all though... Not my top Supes riff in the 616.

I've come to like Hyperion. Loved the Supreme Power and Exiles versions of him; the latter snorted Holocaust to death in one of the most badass scenes in Exiles history. The current 616 version can be a bore but I'm a sucker for his bro-downs with Thor. #Beards

I like the idea of Hyperion but there's way to many variations of him. The current one in Avengers isn't all that interesting to me. I liked the one Busiek used during his run and the recent version from the Thunderbolts. They were both arrogant jerks so I'm assuming they were one in the same.
