One podcast I listen to (Rachel and Miles X-Plain the X-Men) refer to him as "Super Doctor Astronaut Peter Corbeau" because of his seeming ability to do anything. They're exaggerating a bit, but I seem to recall him swimming the Pacific ocean after fighting a shark. He's most famous for getting knocked out and his talents absorbed by Jean Grey shortly before encountering the Phoenix force.

Overall, he's fine. He serves a useful role, although he's not a starring character.
