Lara isnt the one cracking jokes.
Its called having a personality and what helps set Drake apart from your typical generic dude from a third person shooter
again, I had a similar argument to this in the Uc4 thread and had to take a lot of crap from people about it.So having a personality makes up for littering the streets with corpses for personal monetary gain, Glad we cleared that up.
I don't think people realize that money is his actual motivation.again, I had a similar argument to this in the Uc4 thread and had to take a lot of crap from people about it.
my hypothesized solution in the Uc4 thread was have chloe and to a higher extent elena mention it.What is the solution here? Have Drake have a breakdown, or at least whimper/visibly shed a tear after every kill? Have him go full on stealth and complete the whole campaign without being detected? Or just get shot repeatedly?woot

but at least he cares about people. he ain't evil. but yeah I agree with you, all he's after is money. hence, treasure hunterI don't people realize that money is his actual motivation.
Yep! His personality makes him more relatable and gives me a reason to care about him as a characterSo having a personality makes up for littering the streets with corpses for personal monetary gain, Glad we cleared that up.
I'm not a big fan either.
Did you just quote and agree with...yourself?
But you know, honestly, I don't put a lot of thought into it. What you say is true if you want to look at it through a realistic lens, but when you take it for a fictional piece of material, you just roll with it. It's obviously not a game that's high brow and trying to address this issue or anything. It's like people who called Superman a mass murder in Man of Steel due to all the destruction he and Zod caused, but you know, it's not real. Just like that was a movie about super powered people in pajamas beating each other up, this is about a wise cracking treasure hunter who survives impossible things and then runs into more impossible things and somehow lives.
You apply this "realism" filter to everything, and you'll get to a point where you won't enjoy anything that has any enemies that aren't inhuman.

Lara is a beginner. She's scared and she's not used to have waves of mercenaries trying to kill her. But she'll get there eventually.
The thing about Tomb Raider (2013) though is that Lara clearly isn't having a normal day.
Drake on the other hand... for him killing a few dozen people is called Tuesday.

Whatever you do, at the end of the day this is a game where the gameplay demands a certain bodycount to satisfy the shooter aspect. It's a much more rounded game than a traditional shooter, but then maybe that's why I prefer cases where this issue doesn't crop up for e.g. the human race defending itself from alien attack rather than just shooting other human soldiers. I don't think the games can change too much here, after a couple of sequels Lara will inevitably become more like veteran Lara.my hypothesized solution in the Uc4 thread was have chloe and to a higher extent elena mention it.
I disagree. After the first one is down, we can't have her mourning every death in her path, struggling to do it or feeling sick with it. After the initial experience is out of the way, it is understood that this is the path to take for survival. What would you have her do? Say sorry after every couple of deaths? Her character arc in the reboot lasts for about a minute. She goes from struggling to kill a man and it being a horrible thing to thoughtlessly mowing down droves literally within a single cut scene. I admire what they were trying to do but they didn't pull it off.
No which is the point he's getting at. Its a videogame. Its silly to expect our protagonist to agonize after every deathI disagree. In a movie there would be more time for that due to its different pace. Here we're always having enemies at our throats. It's a desperate situation. It doesn't mean she's having fun doing it. I felt the exact opposite when it was just her in the scene. She was exhausted. She was still doing a horrible thing, but she understood that it was either that or be killed. The time to struggle was over.
i heard you can play the entirety of metal gear solid 4 without killing a soul.Honestly if given the option in games I'd prefer to either go through a game with no body count or very limited or a total stealth route even if it takes twice as long. I love challenging myself like that in games. Even games where you're expected to murder everything like Prototype I always did the camouflage on the bases and took everyone down one by one with no fuss until there was just one guy. I'd leave him just wondering when the heck everyone went.
I can't stand those non-stop shooters where you can't go three minutes without shooting people.

No, that's the point I'm getting at. He was talking about the character's arc being over quickly, which is what I disagree, not how it's pointless to have her agonizing after every kill.No which is the point he's getting at. so what do you want him to do? Cry after each kill? If there is no killing then there is no game. If he wasnt a treasure hunter and didnt put himself in those situations, then again, there'd be no game. I dont get what the complaining is about, especially since you seem to get it by your statement in your subsequent paragraphsbut nathan drake is not a gangster or a soldier. he's a thief, a treasure hunter and he's shooting at people who are after the same thing and the only thing that separates them is that they're evil. he wouldn't be in that position shooting at those people if we wasn't attempting something that malicious in the first place, which is hunting for money.
look i've said it over and over again, Uc2 is one of my favorite games of all time, as was Me2 of the last generation 2 of my favorites, and I like Nathan Drake, and the shooting in the game is great although I think we just get wave after wave of too many enemies to shoot at. I'd rather have more balance between the shooting and puzzle solving/platforming. As Uc gradually progressed it became more and more of just a 3rd person shooter with some mini puzzle solving and platforming.
the pacing of the game is fine though. hell everything about the games are great i'd just want less shooting, and balance it out with the rest, you know.
