Yep. Im not even sure this can be called an adaption. Its Inspired by the books, but it doesnt sound like an adaption.
I don't know if you are a fan of the books, but it totally makes sense, as ka is a wheel and the end of the books is [blackout]Roland being sent back to the beginning of the first book, but this time with the horn of the Eld, meaning this time around he has a chance to actually finish his task. Something we didn't get in the books. This means the story will be similar but not identical even in the world of the books, so this is completely legit as the next go around towards ther tower.[/blackout]

I hope so, though Sunannah is obviously not to going to be there to, ahem, 'get pregnant' so to speak.

I always thought the house coming alive in that moment would be great in a movie if done well though.

I always felt like someone like Sam Raimi would have been ideal to shoot the horror sequences of the house. I just kept picturing Evil Dead type of camera angles and movements.

Would have loved if they took the Marvel approach and had different directors collaborate all bringing their own strengths in different style approach for the Dark Tower saga. Sam Raimi, Del Toro and ron howard all working together would have been some insane mind**** and could bring Kings world and vision to life.

From what I'm seeing it's a continuation/sequel of Kings story with hopefully a different take on key events. Another turn of the wheel per say and it makes sense that Eddie and Susssanah don't appear in this movie considering the end of the book.

I have never read the books and know nothing about this property at all. But everything I am seeing is grabbing my interest.

Yeah... as much as the changes from the source material annoy me... I'm gradually becoming more interested in this.

Since this is going to be a sequel I guess Ill go ahead and get the audio books and listen to them.

I just realized the movie's Jake Chambers has some overlaps with Tyler Marshal from Black House. Spoilers for Black House.
Tyler is an exceptionally powerful Breaker that's being hunted by the Crimson King's agents - in particular, a serial killer nicknamed the Fisherman that plays host to one of the King's demon servants.

Yeah that would have been great, have loved to see GDT's take on Shardik also. And Raimi's on Mordred.

Raimi just doesn't do it for me. I wouldn't want him near this franchise. I did think Nolan would give us a good Drawing of the Three, though. I'd like to see someone like Fincher shoot the Dixie Pig sequences from the last couple of books.

You actually dont have to. It's not that kind of a sequel.

You should get the books anyway because it's a fantastic story though :)

I am a huge fan of this series of novels, and am cautiously optimistic about how the movie will go.

The Dark Tower Wraps Production

The Dark Tower wraps production after 15 weeks.

According to Jo Blo, production on the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King’s novels has finally come to completion. Filming took place for 15 weeks and began in South Africa in April 2016. Some scenes were also shot in New York City.

So Elba said in an interview that they specifically tried to make Roland not look at all like a cowboy, and that he doesn't ride a horse. Ummm... look, I know that there are other aspects to Roland's character but his overall appearance should at least make you THINK of the old West. Also, he does ride a horse, at least when he's younger. I don't know man. This movie might turn out to be good but it seems like they're trying a little too hard to make it different from the books.

Some of it will have to be different, given they have cast Elba as the lead.

Why does casting Elba mean he can't dress like a cowboy?
Wasn't saying that it did -- only that the decision is going to necessitate some changes to the story.

By the way -- Elba's look doesn't seem far off from the novels:

The Dark Tower: first footage coming in October.

http://screenrant.com/the-dark-tower-stephen-king-first-footage-october/

On the homepage for EW popfest, a special event being thrown by EW running from October 29th through the 30th, they have revealed that they will unveil the first look at the upcoming film. There is no word on what the “first footage” will be, leaving the door open as to how lengthy of a reveal this could be. With it just being described as footage and not a trailer, it is possible that a single scene could be shown to generate buzz for the movie. The important thing to note is that EW popfest is an in person event and there has been no indication as to whether or not the footage will be released online or not.

On the Michael Whelan dust jacket for The Gunslinger, Roland even has the same red neck thing there as Elba's Roland:

Michael Whelan's Roland even has a coat, same model as Elba's Roland but in a different color:

As for the color, there's some stuff introduced late in the Dark Tower novels
called the Red and the White. Red being the Crimson King and his flunkies, White being the gunslingers of Gilead...and then there's Walter, who identifies himself as Walter of the Black. Red, White, and Black. It could be that Roland's black coat symbolizes more an allegiance to the concept of the Black, or the neutral party. Rather than the rigid entropy and chaos of Red or the unflagging adherence to order represented by the White.
This probably won't be true for the movie, but it occurred to me on a reread of the novels.

To be fair that's one plot element that I'm not that sad to see go. Not Susannah herself, but that part of the story specifically.

I've just started reading this series. Half way through The Gunslinger. Great book so far.
