Stephen King's "IT" remake has found a writer

On the plus side, this frees Fukunaga up for Batman :o.

Sneider updated the story...

The budget conflict over “It” had been brewing for weeks, as Fukunaga discovered when he initially tried to cast Ben Mendelsohn as the titular villain. While many assumed Mendelsohn was forced to turn down “It” due to his pending involvement in “Star Wars: Rogue One,” an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap that the Australian actor could’ve starred in both movies — “It” in June and “Rogue One” in September — but New Line wanted Mendelsohn to take a sizable pay cut, prompting him to pass on the project.

If they get any of the directors, writers, or cinematographers behind Sinister, Insidious, Oculus, Annabelle, Mama, or The Babadook, this movie is in the right hands, in my opinion. Not the guy from an HBO drama. Hate on me all you want. :oldrazz:

"Ugh" is right.

Yes, the Poltergeist remake failed because of the clown. Had nothing to do with the fact that it was an unnecessary remake of a classic that couldn't even match the scare quality of that decades-old film.

So get James Wan to do it? I'd be more than happy with that and he New Line's go-to director anyways.

We need #FukunagaforBatman to be a trend NOW. :o

That HBO drama had grotesque Gothic imagery and occult undertones that rival some of the "horror films" being put out today.

He was a perfect fit for Stephen King.

Agreed. There is some truly unsettling imagery in that series.

Yep. And it's more cinematic than a lot of horror movies and "HBO dramas."

I love how you guys think I'm nuts, when you think the only person in the world for this job is an unknown television guy who made 8 episodes of an HBO show, and you want him to be fully in charge of the Moby Dick of Horror novels, possibly the most iconic novel of its genre since Dracula or Frankenstein. Sure, I'm nuts.

Where did I say you were nuts?

The last thing I want is for Jennifer Kent to be "rewarded" for The Babadook by being given a micro-managed, commercialized horror flick to push out on a studio mandate. It's no coincidence that the best horror films are coming out of the independent industry nowadays. The closest any studio has come to the likes of The Babadook, It Follows, and The Witch was The Conjuring, and even that film's legacy was tainted by ****** sequels.

Then let it be an independent film down the road. I don't understand where the huge budget is needed.

Mike Flanagan
Jennifer Kent
Scott Derrickson
Fede Alvarez
John R. Leonetti

Any of these people are excellent choices.

Don't forget the classics that he directed before, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and The Butterfly Effect 2. We have a winning combo here! :o

At least he has built a resume.

Look at my original post - I said the directors, writers, and cinematographers related to the movies I mentioned.

Aside from directing Annabelle, he is the director of photography for:
- Child's Play 3
- Dead Silence
- Death Sentence
- Insidious
- The Conujuring
- Insidious: Chapter 2

So we're saying that Jennifer Kent as director with John R. Leonetti as cinematographer wouldn't be better than Fukunaga? You're all just kidding yourselves.

There is no definite proof that either would be better or worse for the movie

The Conjuring and Death Sentence are the only ones worth any merit. The rest are tedious drivel.

Fukunaga obviously had a vision for this project. Now we're going to get generic cookie cutter jump scare fest brought to you by Generic Studios Inc.

Sinister has to be one of the most forgettable movies I've ever seen.

But the guy responsible for 8 episodes of a TV show = total irrefutable genius.

I didnt say he was a genius. Find me a post where I said that

Youre making it seem like True Detective is some crappy drama. It's very well regarded by critics and audiences alike. It's 8 hours of very good media.

Also Jane Eyre and Sin Nombre seemed to be pretty well liked too. I havent seen them though.

I mean everyone has to start somewhere and Fukunaga has proven, from where he's started, to be a good director. I dont see the problem:shrug:

The remake of IT may be dead--or undead--but we'll always have Tim Curry. He's still floating down in the sewers of Derry.
