Watching all of True Detective has proved two things to me:

1. They have the perfect director attached to this.
2. It'd be idiotic to go the film route rather than making an HBO miniseries.
With the right cast, that would be incredible. Like possibly Best Stephen King Adaptation ever incredible.

If anything should be carried over from True Detective it is the sense of place and atmosphere. A major aspect of IT is the idea itself that Derry itself is almost infected in a way, that the place itself is evil and spawns evil and also that sense of history. True Detective brought that kind of air to Louisiana and the same thing would work great in Maine.

The original has a special place in my heart.

The book is on a whole other level. I can't wait for this movie.

The lawnmower man from True Detective should play Pennywise. He would make one creepyass clown.

Y'all may think I'm crazy but...... Paul Reubens for Pennywise

I don't think you're crazy....

.... just drunk. :o

Man, just think about it. I think he'd straight murder the role

If he could tone down his high pitched voice then yea he may be able to pull that off.

i'd give Reubens a shot. would have loved to see Tim Curry reprise it, though. he's still as creepy as he was back then.

Paul Ruebens voice is only like that as Pee Wee.... I dunno. I just think its such a left field choice and he could just nail it.

He was pretty creepy as a vampire in the 1992 movie Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Very un-PeeWee like.

Exactly. He was also a sleaze bag tabloid journalist or a paparazzo on the old FX series Dirt. He only uses that annoying voice as Pee Wee or gay coke dealers like in Blow lol. Seriously though, I just think he is very under rated and has it in him to deliver something truly creepy and evil. I wonder how the design would look though. Was Pennywise described in the book the way he looked in the miniseries? I've never read the book but I always loved the miniseries. Somebody special needs to play Pennywise. And unexpected, get people talking and all that

I haven't read the book yet either. I've downloaded the PDF, I just haven't gotten around to reading it. Maybe i'll start it this weekend.

The way he looks in the miniseries (if you're talking about the Tim Curry one) is very close to how he's described in the books, minus a few colour changes to the suit.

Personally, I'd love to see Gary Oldman take on Pennywise.

Yeah, Gary Oldman crossed my mind as well. I do wonder if they'll be more faithful to the book than the mini-series was. For example, will they keep the:

teenage ********
scene from the book. If they do a faithful adaptation, then this is going to be a very rated-R movie.

Gary Oldman was always at the top of my list to play Pennywise.
