SteveDeKnight

even if you dont have an iPod it takes all of about 5 seconds to download iTunes to your PC for free. People have no excuses.... :p ;)

You don't even need iTunes to listen to the podcast as long as you have quicktime on your computer. I listened to it at work the other day, and my computer doesn't have iTunes.

For the helluvit, and for the fact that I know a lot of people haven't heard the House of El podcast yet, I took liberty of transcribing some of DeKnight's comments from the second part of the interview. This is great stuff folks! Enjoy!! :)

PS: Don't crucify me on my typing skillz; there's probably a bunch of words spelled wrong, especially proper names. Sorry. My motivation to correct that stuff is nil right now. LOL :p

Indeed. Me too; my fingers hurt. That's it for the night. I'll let others transcribe more if they feel the urge. :)

Nighters gang.

Thanks Pat. Its nice to have that here in writing so we can reference it from time to time when we need to clarify heresay as just that. :cwink:

I agree, especially since he mentioned a lot of info about upcoming eps and their writer/director's etc. Thanks Pat! :)

Thanks so much, AgentPat! I loved that SDK explained about Clark's decision to go in the room that happened to contain the greenk. Many people bashed Clark for that and it was ultimately SDK's fault!

Oops! Sorry, thebigtree, I see you got there first. Lol. :) In which case, thankyou both, thebigtree and Pat!

Some of the recent blog comments by DeKnight.. for those of you who don't wander over there:

In response to an interview with KK, I think.
Aww, thanks, KK! I wish I could write you that way all the time! Hmm... maybe I'll get a little chance in my last episode...

In response to whether or not ED is in his last ep.
Yes. She plays a major part. Thrilled to be writing for her one last time.

And Ollie:
No Ollie in ep 21 at the moment, although I'd love to work with Justin again.

His last ep:
Writing one more. Ep. 21.

Budgetary comments:
The budget is a lot more complicated than that. We aren't getting less money than we used to. The problem is that any show becomes more expensive to produce in their later seasons. Plus the Canadian/US exchange rate is no longer the boon it used to be. Adding to the problem are episodes like Zod, Arrow, and Justice. The big stuff's great, but just those three episodes put us well over a million dollars over budget for the year. That million has to be made up by created "below patter" episodes. And an ep like Trespass doesn't save as much as you might think (less than 10% of that deficit, actually). We're always wrestling with what we can afford to do. Just the nature of the beast.

Heh.
Thirst was one of your favorites? Okay, to each his own. I admit I really loved Static, which most people hated.

Who gets to write which ep:
No, it's purely luck of the draw. You're usually told what episode number you're going to be writing before we've settled on what the story is. Sometimes if you're higher up you can massage that -- which I may have done with Justice ;) -- but most of the time it's just pure blind luck, good and bad.

VERY intriguing!
The end of the season as originally planned is different now. Still should be pretty cool, but not in the way I was talking about before.

I also reminded SDK what a great forum we have here and invited him to come visit us again. :D

(Am I bored today, or what?)

Thanks for that Rene, some good information.

It saddens me that they changed the finale.:csad:

If they went that far over budget, then we may get gipped come finale time when it comes to bing bang boom type stuff.

I hope it didn't change alot...it always makes me wonder what they changed....such as what they did for "Vessel".

what was the previous finale?

I just hope we never find out what the original finale was going to be. Because we will just end up pissed off :ninja:

I'm wondering if it has something to do with the rumoured planning of an 8th season.

Hmmm...that's a good point...it might have something to do with that.

By the way, the previous finale was "Vessel" and they changed the script and planning of the episode at the same time it was being filmed...and I always wondered what they had planned for it.

Finales never dissapoint, so I'm sure whatever changes they made will still be enjoyable.:yay:

Ya know 'Rene, having someone post SDK's responses over here is an excellent idea. I've long since stopped reading his blog comments, and when I did, I only wanted to read what SDK had to say and ended up scrolling through everyone else. I always thought someone with enough patience should port his comments over here so the rest of us could see!

I think I read that was a budgetary problem, moreso than a story change.

Thanks Serene!

Too bad he loved Static. That was a terrible episode (IMO) and there were just seven minutes with Clark in it. That might mean SDK doesn't care that much about writing for Clark or about episodes which focus on Clark and Clark's journey.

Q: DeKnight, do you guys have anything great in store for Chloe after "Progeny"?

A: WELL, THERE IS THAT MYSTERIOUS METEOR FREAK POWER I SUPPOSE WE'LL HAVE TO EXPLAIN...

Q: All I keep reading about is Clana and Lois being forced down my throat with her suddenly, serious journalism (it seems strange after all the times the show has ragged on The Inquisitor as crap, now that Lois works there, it doesn't seem to matter)...

A: I HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN THE INQUISITOR IS A CHEAP RAG. LOOK FOR A REF TO THIS IN PROTOTYPE.

Q: As a Chloe fan, do I have anything to look forward to? :)

A: HER POWER TO KILL A YAK WITH MIND BULLETS.

Q: It just seems like Chloe is getting thrown aside as reporter, dumped off to be with the geek because she, apparently, doesn't deserve a superhero, and the potentional love interest for Clark foreshadowing from S2 seems to have gone nowhere...trying to find something positive from what's been spoiled so far...

A: CLARK WILL ONE DAY END UP WITH LOIS. WE AREN'T ALLOWED TO CHANGE THAT ONE. BUT WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN BETWEEN NOW AND THEN?

Thanks, Kalkai!

Were there any questions about Clark?

But what do you think the point of this is:

Is he kidding? Is he throwing a bone to the Chlark fans? Or is he just being cruel? It seems like a weird thing to throw in there.

Thanks, Kalkai!

I believe Kai culled those comments from DeKnight's blog (I remember the mind bullets/yak response LMAO!!) He usually just offers a quick quip or two based on the things people have been babbling on about, usually 'shipper-related matters. It's a tough read there sometimes; I don't know how he does it. :ninja:

I took that as being like when as a kid I would ask my mother for something she had no intention of getting me and she would say "maybe" just to shut me up :D

Seems pretty cut and dried. They could hypothetically pair Clark up with any female companion, provided they keep in mind the one he's destined to be with in the end is Lois.

I took more umbrage with the second sentence - as if there would be a reason to want to change that. :p ;)
