Steven Spielberg's West Side Story adaptation

Do we have any ideas on how this is supposed to be different from the original?

Real Hispanics and Puerto Ricans instead of people in bronzed makeup like Natalie Wood. Also it's meant to adhere closer to the Broadway play than the film.

I hope Spielberg hasn't removed "I Feel Pretty" from his version of the musical like Sondheim has now in the revival. I don't think that would go down well with audiences.

Difference from the original?
Instead of in 16th century Verona Italy it's set in the 50s? Uper-West side NY
Instead of two feuding families the Montagues and the Capulets, It's two feuding gangs, the Jets (whites) and the Sharks (Puerto Ricans)
It includes "Dance-Rumbles!"

And the biggest difference is that in this version Jet Link was never captured by Black Ghost, and recruited into being Cyborg 002

And LOL yes I'm kidding, I knew what you meant.:oldrazz:
it really is looking mostly the same.

Would gangs still feud during a pandemic or would they self isolate?

Also if this were a modern day adaptation, wouldn't Tony have met Maria online? It could've been like "You've Got Mail" with Tony and Maria feuding themselves in real life but falling in love virtually.

From what I can see, they upped the gayness budget on this 200%, and I wholeheartedly approve.

Well you'd know if they use the lyric "gay" instead of "bright" in "I Feel Pretty", if that song is even in this film (it's not in the 2020 Broadway revival).

Well, for one thing, the drug store looks quite a bit fancier and not like the grimy little hole in the wall in the original movie.

I don't see this getting enough traction to be a "thing" relevant to the movie. It's from years ago and basically a "she said/he said", assuming he denies it or addresses it.

That tweet has 200K (!!!) likes, of course it's gonna gain traction. Plus looks like there are some other girls as well.

Guilty or not guilty aside on this as I haven’t delved further than what is presented on this page, IF this becomes serious and the accusations become a Kevin Spacey scenario, what can Spielberg or the studio do at this point in regards to their star of the film? Do they reshoot everything? Do they release the film as is with a disclaimer? Do they VOD and forget about it?

I guess this is a broader question for any film where its lead star gets accused for whatever reason months/weeks away from release and the severity of the accusations? Since they are the face of the product, is there anything built into contracts about their past? Tweets? Etc?

With the whole slate of films this year getting shuffled, I can easily see them holding off the release and reshooting all his **** with a new actor if the need arises.

It might be tough with him being the lead, but...

So the Oscars this year are going to have to open themselves up to pornos so they have enough nominees in every category.

The trailer for West Side Story will debut during the Oscar telecast, they just announced it during the On The Red Carpet Pre Show
