Looking back, considering how cool Dafoe is and how weird his face is....prosthetics should have been the way to go. And it seems to me Raimi greatly regrets not going with prosthetics as he complained bitterly how it was hard not being able to see the villain's face and with Doc Ock he now only is letting you see the villain's face. I think that is a major reason Harry is just "The Goblin" or Harry instead of GG so he doesn't have to wear a fright mask that doesn't move.

If there was one thing I could change though it is after those people help Spidey save the tram and MJ in a way too cheesy moment, GG just blows all the people on the bridge straight to kingdom come and as Spidey screams in anger flying towards Goblin, he then throws the rope on him.. If we could have just shown him brutally kill all those people it would have made him a bigger threat (or Gwen being the girl and dying, but that is in another thread ).

You're comparing Doc Ock, who doesn't wear a mask & never has, to the Goblin, who does?
As for the bridge, GG had done enough killing. Rather than kill them in what would have basically been a tantrum, he directed his anger toward his true enemy, Spider-Man. Works for me. Besides, it had a sense of post-9/11 solidarity to it.
As for Gwen, I wouldn't have wanted Peter to suffer two tragic losses like that in the same movie. That would've given it a depressing ending & who needs that? Especially in the first movie. You gotta stop clinging to the comics & accept that the movies aren't going to take the same approach.

Oh I am not Herr Logan (no offense) Herr and can enjoy the movies changes and all. I don't mind organics and think they actually work. The mask is stupid but I can look past it. I just think Goblin needed more bite. He is Spidey's worst enemy and he needed to be like the freaking unstoppable monster when he is beating Pete. I think killing Gwen in movie 1 would've made it a better movie giving the whole romance a tragic poignancy and giving Goblin an edge at the end, but I think it would've greatly handicapped the sequels (especially the second with Spidey No More) so I don't know how I feel about that.

I just think the scene was incredibly cheesy and 9/11 or not it just was laugh-inducing and made Spidey's greatest foe look like a chump (I thought when they basically redid the scene in SM2 it worked much better on the train). I would've liked to see him fly above and fire a missile and a ffew bombs at them saying "As you wish..." with a cackle to their exclaims bring it on. And Spidey screams no seeing all those people incenerated and then Goblin takes a mad Spidey by the torso and tosses him through a wall. It would've been more intense and built Spidey's desperation in that scene better.

Again, I don't think that would've been necessary. And it would've made Spidey's victory even more empty. Yeah he saved the girl & the kids but look how many people died in the process. That would've been more tragedy than the movie needed.

I still love the first film. I go through phases where I prefer the second more, then the first, and so on. Guess it doesn't matter which one is "better" though since without the first there would not be a second.

Well, that's my logic anyway.

I never really thought SM1 was a great movie before. When it first came out, i liked it, but it dissapointed me a lot as well. I watched it occasionally when i first bought it, but hadnt watch since Spidey 2 came out.

Then about a month ago i watched and LOVED it, and have watched it 4 times since. Still not as good as 2 but a damn good movie.

It's an average movie to me. So much of it is sloppy and lacks focus. Raimi has absolutely no taste and never has. Much of it is garish and cartoon-like.

It's almost as if Raimi heard my complaints because Spidey 2 improves in every way. Spidey 2 is simply superior in every respect.

i've never considered the Goblin an unstoppable monster, isnt spidey actually stronger then him but GG is just insane so it evens out? but the rest of your post would be crazy to watch, i think i like it

What an odd thing to say.

The mask in V is there to HIDE the man's emotions and his identity. It's supposed to be rigid, and supposed to look like a cheap mask because that's what it is.

It´s still to me one of the best superhero movies. To me the years have only proven how hard it is to achieve what Sam did in terms of doing both a comics adaptation that´s true to the core of the character and an enjoyable and soulful movie at the same time. So far, to me, only Chris Nolan and Bryan Singer with the X-Men movies did a comparable job to what Raimi did with the Spider-Man movies.

One of the things I love about the movie is the scene where Peter finds out he no longer needs glasses and later MJ points out that he has blue eyes... I have blue eyes and I had to wears bigass glasses that looked almost exactly like Peter´s till a couple years ago, when I did the laser surgery.

Spidey 1 is a very good film. It's a shame that Spidey 2 wasn't as good. With the exception of JJ, Dok Ock and spidey, the film was rather dull. Spidey 1 is a very good film, even if it does have annoyances.

In the comics the mask moves. The Goblin's mask can show him frowning, laughing, etc. Don't tell me you haven't noticed.
