Sub Mariner Official Thread

Yeah, I wish that tongue stayed ripped out. And then I wish the symbiote told Gargan where he could stick it before promptly leaving him for Eddie.

I think Eddie and the symbiote should have a very contentious reunion and more of an angsty relationship afterwards, with only their mutual hatred of Spider-Man keeping them from going completely bonkers. Either way, though, the symbiote needs to get back to Eddie.

I was so excited by the last few issues of Sensational Spider-Man. The solicts had me thinking Lee Weeks was going to draw Eddie's reunion with the symbiote. Marvel tricked me. :(

Yeah, instead Eddie just went bat-**** crazy and stalked May's unconscious body. :o

I just read an interview with Weeks on Newsarama about his work on the Captain Marvel mini. Apparently he picks and chooses projects based on what Jesus would want.

Although the chemical balance thing does hold true, as I recall. It's the reason behind most his savage rages.

As for the latest issue, from what I've seen... hello Koryak.

Aquaman fans will know what I mean.

My understanding is it wasn't a chemical balance so much as an oxygen balance. When he's underwater he doesn't get enough oxygen and when he's above water he gets to much,,, or something like that. John Byrne came up with that one.

Odd selection method. I guess he'll never work with Garth Ennis. :(

How he can justify being in an industry that has no problem exploiting violence and sex is a little strange. As long as he keeps drawing good comics, I guess I don't care.

Well, he doesn't exploit sex too much in his art. I assume he tries to avoid projects where they'd ask him to do so, too. The violence is fairly cartoonish as well, but I see what you mean; comics are literally built on the notion that slugging a guy in the face is a good solution to most problems.

Hmm, maybe we've just figured out why Weeks hasn't been doing much comics work for either of the big 2 for a while.

I'm an Aquaman fan, but that doesn't mean I dislike Namor. So with that said, I've been reading this 6-part mini and it's been okay. Up until the fourth issue, story-wise it was completely predictable considering what happened with Civil War; so that part I wasn't impressed. Overall? Been okay so far.

But, my feelings slightly changed at the end of the fourth issue. What you guys think about this son of his? I haven't kept up with Namor, so I was wondering if this was his first appearance/mention ever. If so, then it loses so much effect right there.

EDIT: Before I get flamed incase there are huge Namor fanboys in this thread, the reason I say it would lose so much effect is because it has become a huge comicbook cliche.

Long-lost kids are a huge everything cliché, and a terrible one at that. I can't think of a single time it's worked well. :o

Well, I think when Wildcat's illegit-son was introduced, he was at least introduced well. He didn't hate his dad for it, understood it all, etc etc, and wasn't expecting anything to change or come out of this revelation.

Course, lately he has been shown as too silly instead of that vibe we first got from him. But as far as the introduction of the comic illegit-son is concerned, I think he was handled well.

I'd forgotten about this discussion.

It's got to be tough, though, working in an industry that your religion tells you is inherently wrong. That's one of the main reasons I can't get down with Catholicism. Who wants to feel guilty all the time?

I'm Catholic, and a very religious one at that...I don't see your logic of why you cannot get "down with it". That is a personal thing, not religious, really when that artist decides not to work on a certain project when he thinks the classic WWJD thing. That just means he is probably one of the strong orthodox types of Catholics; he makes the choice to be so or was brought up that way. Not all Catholics, no matter how religious, are the super strict orthodox.

It's called "Catholic guilt" for a reason, and it's something that I didn't just make up. What's so hard to understand about what I said?

Because you are classifying it like its own thing. That is just self-conscious of one person. That's like people saying Catholics are so different than the other Christians as if it was a whole different religion. I think it is funny, because each "denomination" barely has any differences. It comes down to self morality; like that writer.

Catholics can be pretty well adjusted people. It's just another stereotype that all of them are super-guilty. My whole family is Catholic and they're all fine. Actually, I'm the miserable black sheep, and I'm agnostic.

He was better than most, but I still hate him.

Catholic guilt is it's own thing. Again, it's called "Catholic guilt", not "Christian guilt." I grew up in a Presbyterian church and had Catholic friends, Baptist friends, Morman friend and friends from any number of other denominations. I always noticed how it was always the Catholic kids who felt that their body's were dirty, especially the girls. I don't mean to offend you, but these are my opinions based on what my experiences have taught me.

Must've sucked with all those strangers wandering through it and singing and stuff.
