Superhero Cinematic Civil War - Part 57

Unpopular opinion: Zod is a worse than Steppenwolf. I'd say he's worse than Lex, but I'm not sure if I can go that far yet.

I don't know, Zod was incoherent, but at least. . . you can see how he *could* have been a decently strong villain, and probably was *intended* to be such. He just was poorly executed. Granted that could be the subtitle for Man of Steel as a whole: "It could have been good, it just wasn't".

So Superman

Dons the black suit after reliving the inspiring speeches by his fathers? I guess black is the color of true hope in his planet.

And evil Superman in the future is wearing the classic red and blue? I feel like Snyder is sending a massage here.
Really makes me feel like he does all of this just to piss people off

The whole scene of the Icelandic village women singing and one of them sniffing Aquaman's shirt was just funny to me.

I could picture Snyder filming that scene while probably thinking to himself that it is SO PROFOUND and DEEP!
I still have no idea what that singing was supposed to mean haha. Like, I was confused as hell when it was happening.

I really felt nothing when it came to Supermans death in BVS, and I now ZSJL was supposed to make you feel the weight of his loss and return, but here's my thing. First off, Superman should not have been killed off in his second appearance, and second, why should I feel bad for a guy who's mother tells him "you don't owe the world a thing". It's that kind of messaging from Snyders Superman I'll never understand. Everything is the opposite of what it should be, but people defend it. Why? because his cape moves?

But hey, at least Superman & Lois gets the character right.

Honestly a lot of it does this feel this superficial and aesthetically-based. Like Batfleck has a cartoonishly square jaw and looks like BTAS Batman, so that makes him "the best".

oh yeah I've seen people make those comments lol. It's pretty annoying.

I have to say I am kinda glad at seeing all the shade thrown at the Dr Strange movie in the last few pages. I felt like a leper at the time on here as I felt it was so vanilla and bland and was getting ready to be done with MCU following it.

But kept getting told on this very thread the movie was phenomenal, I thought I was going crazy at the time.
Well I still think it's phenomenal, It's one of my most rewatched MCU movies. It made Strange one of my favourite comicbook characters from the get-go. I love what Scott did with Strange but I'm also looking forward to seeing Raimi's version of him. The first movie has already done most of the groundwork, it's easy to do better in the next one.

What’s next? A Marvel Studios movie finally gets a rotten score on rotten tomatoes, and ends up being the worst reviewed superhero movie of the year? Strange times we’re living in.
It's going to happen someday, I just hope its not Fantastic Four or Xmen, we really need their first MCU movies to be great.

Yeah, I felt nothing other than annoyed when Superman died and his resurrection in this had a CHANCE to be meaningful but Snyder ruined it by not allowing him to have any personality. First he attacks the entire league just because Snyder wanted to have a fight scene and the best thing he could some up with was “coming back from the dead makes you a paranoid psychopath”. Then we get a nice moment with Lois and Martha that made me think, “Okay; maybe we’ll get something that feels like classic Superman.” But then Snyder goes right back to turning him into a blunt instrument. It’s cool to see him pound the crap out of Steppenwolf but I would have much rather seen him act like a leader with the rest of the team. Instead, he’s just filling the void the Hulk fills on The Avengers. And that’s insulting to fans of the character. I remember back in the 90s when Image started up, every superhero team had a huge, dumb guy who could smash through walls like the Kool-Aid man. Turning Superman into that type of character is just awful.

Do you know who else needs a recast? Barry Allen. Recast him ASAP.

Honestly, I don’t understand why WB is so committed to him. Aside from some throwaway cameos, his only appearance has been in JL and it bombed. I know some critics said he was a bright spot but it’s not like he made up for how awful the rest of the movie was, and at least some fans thought he was horrible. Then he frustrates the directors of the Flash film with trying to write his own script and they ultimately leave the project and have to be replaced. Then he chokes out a woman in a bar and gets off scot free at a time when that sort of thing is and should be a career ender. Now there’s this Snyder cut and people seem to think the Flash fared better in it but evens one of those who enjoyed his performance admitted that the pet shop scene was terrible.

Also, WB has so little faith in a Flash film that they’re packing it full of other characters who don’t need to be there (TWO Batman, Supergirl and possibly a recast Cyborg). But apparently Ezra’s spastic, annoying take is the only way to go with the character.

I like Ron Livingston in the stuff I've seen of him, so cool. Glad they've just recast instead of cutting the role completely because Flashpoint without Barry's father doesn't make any sense.

I wish they'd recast Ezra too. I get they've got Ben Affleck and the girl that played Iris coming back, but I just don't get the need to tie everything down to him. It's already been a good 6 years since he was first cast and he's had all of 3 appearance, two of which were cameos. Start fresh.

Agree with a lot of this. I don't think Ezra's career should be over (not at all) but what happened does need to be addressed and he needs to take responsibility and as far as I know it hasn't been and he has not owned up to it.

Edit: I do think his Flash career should be over just because I don't care for it.

Yeah I don’t know that his career should end over it either but I’m honestly shocked that he just never acknowledged it and it just went away even though it was caught on video.

I’m still on the fact that Dame Helen Mirren is going to be in the Shazam sequel. Brosnan is great casting as well.

Waiting on Tom Hanks to make his CBM debut. A part of me really thinks he could pull off MCU Professor X.
